I was going to write about Ultra Running Jesus and I see someone beat me to it...3 years ago! Anyways, I was thinking about how much cooler he would feel if he lost all that hair, both on the head and face, instead of 'looking cool' with it. He can always wear an UL mesh cap with a sweat band or a plastic visor with a sweat brow.
This is still my favorite youtube video to this day. It introduced me to this shoe, which I bought two pairs of. I absolutely love it. I will buy it and all of its future models. It literally soaks up character and gets better and better every time you run. Anton is a really cool guy too.
I'm 41 and just now (finally) getting hooked on running. Discovering people like Anton is very enlightening and refreshing. I hope to discover through running at least a small part of what he has.
i just watched this again two weeks ago i was running, hatin life big heels on my shoes and running on roads i got these and started running on trails never had so much fun in my life
This video does a wonderful job at conveying the simplicity of running. I wish more people ran for just the enjoyment; they seem so intent on accomplishing something while running but forget to have a good time.
I've worn NB WT10 since last season. I've run with the same pair through CO mountains with GoreTex RUN3, every training run, the Chicago Marathon, and I'm still running in the same pair this season. They are fantastic. Simply fantastic.
This video really shows that New Balance gets what running is all about. Although it's to promote their minimalus shoe, the video does a great job in making you forget that. You become invested in the story. As a brand, New Balance has done a great job in showing that they are runners looking to help other runners.
This guy is my idle... I watch his videos right before I run to stay motivated. I so can't wait for summer again. One hundred plus weeks suck in the snow... These shoes are my life line. I own many pairs of them and love them to death.
I salute the guys behind the development of the NB, minimus 10 trail shoe. These shoes are the best shoes i have ever had. Being doubtful in the beginning when i saw the thin soles, right after the first run, all doubts turned into amazement and wow's. They are so light, fit so damn good, and provide way more cushion then any shoe out there! I use them for running when going and coming back from work. Not to forget the subtle beautiful look is just amazing (I wear them in office).
It's great that we are now seeing a few more minimalist options on the market. The lace-up five fingers and the minimus should hit the stores at about the same time. I'm gonna try them both. Currently I run in the MT100s and the Bikilas. Both are great shoes for trail running and the Minimus looks to combine the best of both of those models.
Word. Your energy manifested through the video and has compelled me to continue pushing the limits of simplicity and the capabilities of our body out in our home-nature. New balance is the shoe doctors* recommended for me after undergoing multiple surgeries on my legs, in my eyes NB is the ultimate athletic shoe for all unique comfort preferences.
Aaaah! That's where I went wrong....I just cut the sole and heel off my left shoe only....just like this video.....ever since....I've been running my marathons in a slightly circular motion! This guy is truly inspirational and if he was British he'd deserve a Knighthood! I'll be 60 later this year ( 2 months after Sting ) and just about to run my first ultra marathon......My wife has already checked my life insurance is still valid! Wish me luck!
Running doesn't become an addiction. It becomes something you just do and it becomes apart of you. You become more emotionally attached to running than anything else in your life. Well, for me anyways..
Xavier Jones If you're talking about his low body fat, then you're just used to people being fat, and seeing people without much freaks you out and think the person is unhealthy. While you sit on your ass criticizing a marathoner.
@FarAwayRunning I use the Merrell Trail Glove and I love them. I have been using them for over a month. In my case it actually help me rebuild my flat feet. I used to have shin splints and knee problems. All that is part of the past.
Great video. I have this exact pair of shoes (the original orange ones) and covet them! I run a lot in Vibram Five Fingers, but there are just runs I do where the FF's are too thin and they actually slow me down, especially downhill, in those types of situations. NB Minimus give just enough protection and a little more traction, and I just love 'em. I'm definitely a huge FF fan, but when it's time to get fast on a trail that's got a lot of little sharp rocks, the NB's ARE the tool!
I have to run with music, there is nothing better than cranking your favourite running tunes out while out in the hills, also takes your mind off the pain....lol No cars to run me over in the hills so no safety issue :)
"Hmm, I wonder if there's anything merit in a world class ultra runner telling us not to heel strike" Literally everyone one: "Naw heel striking is fine!"
Well to answer a few of the questions below to the best of my knowledge (which isnt that much xD) yes you can and are supposed to run like this on all types of surfaces but the purpose of the minimal shoes is that, over the years the more cushion we've put on our feet made them less able to withstand the changing enviroment, so what would be best is work your way from minimal shoe to running barefoot on grass, then maybe dirt, then anywhere. Barefoot running is the best way to run but takes time
I remember my friend recommended New balance to me after I complimented him on his shoes. As far as training/running shoes I can't imagine giving another brand a chance New Balance is too good.
@5kjack You mean the Five fingers. These NB's do have Vibram soles. But I do hear what you are saying about the Five Fingers feeling stiff around the toes. I can wear them walking and running with no problem, but if I am driving or just sitting around for more than 15 minutes, my toes began to ache.
@macedmatt No problem. Sometimes people can mistake shin splints with muscle fatigue pains from working their anterior tibialis, since running on uneven surfaces puts a lot of stress on many different muscles than running on a treadmill. Either way, RICE them. Rest, ice, compression, elevation; will solve most if not all repeat-stress injuries. Also, don't forget to keep your knees bent while you run!
@MrMaschingewere Agree... He is doing what he was born to do and what he loves... saying that is 'not a job' is just jealousy... I for one would love to do what he does for a living !
Well, if you run, daily, in a wonderful landscape like that one, I will become as well a ultra marathon runner. i love my run even if I run in the city!
fuck yeah i love his ideals! there is more to life than the superficial drab that we rush through each day. Slow down, simply and enjoy life the way its supposed to be.
@MrJusthony Exactly what i say. When we screw up our coach makes us play football the next day. Thats saying something cause were all like 5'6. And football guys are generally... bigger...
@shazzbazz740 Vibrams can feel stiff and restrictive to your weaker toes. I own both Vibrams and the New Balance MInimus and the New Balance Minimus just blows vibrams away. I thought they were incredibly comfortable. I won't even wear my vibrams anymore.
Hope that could help, once again im not saying i know a lot but from watching these videos and doing some research thats some of the stuff ive gotten out of it
@tonyt0n1 That's awesome that you're so dedicated. I really respect that. Maybe you can try running more slowly. I think that if you're only trying for 2 miles, you'll use all your energy up after two miles, but if you're trying for more, you might even subconsciously conserve more energy. Don't be afraid of going really slowly or walking in the middle. I'm only a very amateur runner, but I'm the same amount of tired after 3 or 10 miles (almost).
he looks like himself. I believe he's a barefoot runner helping out a manufacturer's brand. In return he can live his life as an ultrarunner ... I just hope no little children hands were needed to produce the shoes ... He looks genuin to me, hope his partners are too
I ran because I got caught in the rain the other day, and I felt that primal connection he talks about. So even when it stopped raining, I kept running. I was in my casual clothes and shoes. It felt good. I looked like a nut, I'm sure.
They charge the same as for normal shoes but you get more for your money. Don't buy shoes per inch of material buy them per mile. A good minimal shoe will last much much longer than a traditional shoe, thus saving you money. You can go to a local running store to figure out which shoe in what size you want, then hit the internet for good deals.
What is the benefit to running with little to no sole? I have a really high arc on my foot and always have a problem with finding shoes with the right insoles etc. I always thought the more padding the better.
The padding on the heel makes you land on your heels which is a bad thing and the more cushioning and softer a shoe is the harder you actually land in order for your feet to feel like they're 'sticking' the landing.
@tonyt0n1 Do wind sprints. Sprint 100 or 200 meters and walk a 100 or 200 meters, and do them a couple time a week. Endurance will increase over time by doing these. Your energy levels will come. Just hang in there.
@FoOtBaLLFrEaK4434 It's true. Sure the fitter you are, the easier it would be compared to someone who isn't as fit, but it's all about pacing yourself and making sure you eat/hydrate etc...
Where can I find the MT10V1s? I had some that lasted 3 years, then I snagged one of them on a root and ripped the sole off. The MT10V2s don't fit as well.
What are they like for training? Like sqatting, deadlifts and olympic lifts? I'd like a pair of minimalist shoes but ideally I want a pair I can use for both running and training. I was gutted with my Nike frees, the sole is HUGE and has massive heel support so not only is it not as "free" as they claim it to be, it's useless for lifting...
This is the best Commercial New Balance did. They got Jesus to endorse their shoes.
Best shoe too.
loved it but it's insanely expensive these days

i love living in the moment, distilling and stripping things down to their basic elements, and greatly appreciating it all.
Anton looks very happy just being out in the wilderness... That makes me shiver and smile at the same time! :)

I have a pair of the MT10's and I love them! they are super comfy for walking around running, karate, lifting, etc I would totally recommend them.
I salute the guys behind the development of the NB, minimus 10 trail shoe. These shoes are the best shoes i have ever had. i have 10v2s.... it's a big refreshment for me, very natural feeling of running, feeling the ground and still feel like running on clouds
I love these shoes! No injuries at all.
he seems really authentic and a genuinely lovely guy
Man I love people like this!

The automatic captions on this are brilliant!
Great trail running shoe by Anton and NB!

whatever you have to tell yourself.....
the guy in this video is without a doubt an addict and it shows, he's not fit and he's not healthy
same feeling, good talk my lord
Xavier Jones
how isnt he healthy?
Kujien
did we watch the same video?? its obvious
Xavier Jones
If you're talking about his low body fat, then you're just used to people being fat, and seeing people without much freaks you out and think the person is unhealthy. While you sit on your ass criticizing a marathoner.
I love my Vibram 5 Fingers, but this shoe looks so awesome! Can't wait to buy these
I've been using the T20's and those are pretty smooth. They really help on rough trails.
@FarAwayRunning I use the Merrell Trail Glove and I love them. I have been using them for over a month. In my case it actually help me rebuild my flat feet. I used to have shin splints and knee problems. All that is part of the past.

You run with heart!
thanks for ur videos, they are realy inspiring.
I have to run with music, there is nothing better than cranking your favourite running tunes out while out in the hills, also takes your mind off the pain....lol No cars to run me over in the hills so no safety issue :)
I knew Forest was still running! Cool vid!
1:21 those toes :o
great video, inspiring! just bought some Minimus Trail (MT20s), looking forward to working them out.
14years ago I saw this video been running ever since
I LOVE my MINIMUS. It makes me feel like this guy, even if it is for a fraction of the time.
"Hmm, I wonder if there's anything merit in a world class ultra runner telling us not to heel strike"

@TheMrdangles16 shin splints are temporary you get use to it after a while
I remember my friend recommended New balance to me after I complimented him on his shoes. As far as training/running shoes I can't imagine giving another brand a chance New Balance is too good.
They're available at Amazon.
I bought mine (5 mos ago) for USD 100.00 (more or less)..
It's an amazing pair of shoes.
Whenever I watch videos like this I ask myself, "Do these guys have jobs?"
This guy has got it all figured out.
I highly suggest the merrell trail glove for trail running!
Krupicka's toes look gnarly
@5kjack You mean the Five fingers. These NB's do have Vibram soles. But I do hear what you are saying about the Five Fingers feeling stiff around the toes. seems like the realest guy on earth..
@MrMaschingewere
Agree... He is doing what he was born to do and what he loves... saying that is 'not a job' is just jealousy... I for one would love to do what he does for a living !
beautiful video
ive watched this like abillion times...still interesting
he's got some funky looking toes
Well, if you run, daily, in a wonderful landscape like that one, I will become as well a ultra marathon runner.
i love my run even if I run in the city!
@FarAwayRunning What are you looking for from your trail running shoe? The Glycerine 9s and the Trail Glove are complete 180 from each other.
fuck yeah i love his ideals! there is more to life than the superficial drab that we rush through each day. Slow down, simply and enjoy life the way its supposed to be.
New Balances new slogan/campaign should be "Jesus Runs" with this guy as the front runner.
@shazzbazz740 They are a NB shoe, but with Vibram soles.
@MrJusthony Exactly what i say. When we screw up our coach makes us play football the next day. Thats saying something cause were all like 5'6. And football guys are generally... bigger...

i have found myself a new hero
Best shoe they ever made...
Though ungodly expensive today, unfortunately
"Anyone can do 50 or a 100k." HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
NB o melhor tenis do mundo!
Props to the New Balance Marketing department. You forgot to mention they are made in the US!
WILSON!!

Thanks for the review. How to choose a size for these trail running shoe - the same as in regular ones, 1-1.5 cm longer?
They charge the same as for normal shoes but you get more for your money. Don't buy shoes per inch of material buy them per mile. A good minimal shoe will last much much longer than a traditional shoe, thus saving you money. Watch the other videos about him for his 100 mile ultramarathons, he does wear these shoes.
awesome man
@jauipop the soles are much thicker than VFF though, so much less ground feel.
watch this to recapture the 'why' i love running so much. been few months since i last run.
The padding on the heel makes you land on your heels which is a bad thing and the more cushioning and softer a shoe is the harder you actually land in order for your feet to feel like they're 'sticking' the landing.
I'd love to run there!

I know it's a commercial and everything, but it sure sounds like a nice life...
@SamiSlamaJamuh haha did you watch this cause i favorited? or did you randomly find this?
Colorado, NICE!
How much do they cost and where can you get them?
whats the song at the end called?
i was wondering what for a backpack he's wearing at 2:28??? :D
@MrJefferypittfan01 Odd..My brand new New Balance MT310BR say made in Vietnam on the tag on the tongue??
love them
very inspiring thank you
Inspiration to all.
Where is that location? the view is amazing!
does NewBalance make any shoes in America? Or all in SE Asia??
What is the name of the song played at the very end of the video??
What model of the Minimus was he wearing?
Running ultras sometimes leaves your toenails very beaten, including them falling off and what not.
What are they like for training? Like sqatting, deadlifts and olympic lifts? I'd like a pair of minimalist shoes but ideally I want a pair I can use for both running and training.
