You should check out Heart ❤️ Ann Wilson has one of the best voices in rock male or female. She was in her 60's here. Her sister Nancy Wilson is a great guitarist and also has an excellent voice as well. Songs Magic Man Straight on to you Barracuda Heartless Crazy on you and for a softer side Dreamboat Annie Dog and Butterfly Cheers
I don't know if this was mentioned, but Ann Wilson was 62 years old (and fighting the flu!) when this tribute was recorded in 2012. What a set of pipes!
*Rory* - Heart are legends, led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. Ann is probably one of the best female rock voices of all time and one of the only singers ballsy enough to take this one on. 😄 And Nancy kicks serious ass on guitar. Fun tie in: they were huge in the Seattle music scene and were close friends with Chris and other grunge greats. You need to check out their 70s hits - Barracuda, Magic Man, Crazy on You ... also had some 80s hits you've probably heard (Alone...) When they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Chris Cornell gave the speech.
I lived in Seattle as well. What an incredible electric city from Hendrix, Heart, and the hot late 1980s and 90s new bands scene. What a blast. I can't believe Ann was in her 60s belting out like she's 20. ❤✌
Man I'm just catching this. Incredible tribute to Zeppelin by another Hall of Fame band Heart. Heart was always heavily influenced by Zeppelin so it's pretty fitting for them to be leading this tribute. Barracuda, Magic Man, Crazy on You, Mistral Wind are all Heart classics that have some obvious Zeppelin influence. Nice reaction Rory; this is the only cover of Stairway that isn't sacrilege in my opinion.
Robert Plant expressed the same thoughts as you about the irony of the occasion all being in suits and ties and they were scruffy hippies at one time despising the establishment haha
When this aired on TV I cried like a baby watching it. Zeppelin & their music were an important part of my teen years & youth & I especially associate them with a dear friend who's gone now. And it touched my heart seeing Robert's reaction, knowing how close he & Bonzo were, from when they were about 14. I saw Zeppelin in concert 3 times. I also saw Heart in the late 70's. I considered it sacrilege for anyone to even ATTEMPT to cover a Zep song. But when Ann Wilson ripped into "Rock 'n Roll" I knew she & Heart were maybe the only ones who could do them justice. Then to see them honoring Zeppelin at this prestigious event so many years later, was truly special. Btw, you really need to see the earlier part of the tribute that night. Jack Black kicked it off with clips of Zep & a summary of their history. And there was another musical part of the tribute before Heart closed it. Here's a link (it's 20 minutes but the last half is what you've already seen. Hope you watch the first part. Everyone who appreciates Zeppelin should see it!)... ua-cam.com/video/5Whm4VklW_o/v-deo.html FYI, The Kennedy Center Honors are held every December at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Five artists are selected, from different fields of the Arts..music, film, dance etc. And various artists perform in tribute to each artist. It's always a magnificent show! Btw, Zeppelin was the first Rock band to be so honored. Sir Paul McCartney was the first Rock musician, a few years before, but for his overall career. Zeppelin were the first band. And I agree with others suggesting you check out Heart. "Barracuda" live is a great place to start! 💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙
I also saw this when it first aired. I was on the couch with my dog, just hoping my friends were also watching it at home. I've seen it countless times since and it still gives me goosebumps.
Lenny Kravitz does Whole Lotta Love at the show also. It’s good as well. So good to see them over 50 years later being recognized for their work. Has to be a great feeling.
This is an outstanding performance. The first time I heard it I was stunned by how great it was. Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son is on drums. The members of Led Zeppelin made sure that Jason got everything he needed as he was growing up, they all became his honorary uncles and watched over him. They are good guys, the Zeps and their expressions are touching and telling. You can see Jason sending love to them when he finishes the song. Heart is an American rock band formed by 2 sisters, Ann (singer) and Nancy Wilson (guitar). They are an incredible group, you really should give their songs a listen, they are powerful, tight and they will give you goosebumps. This was a big rock show extravaganza so their is an orchestra and choir in the room as well. The bowler hats are in honor of John Bonham who often wore one. Great musicians write great music and great music can be played in a multitude of ways and still show its perfection. I really like this song with Ann singing it, I had never thought about a female voice for it until I saw this performance. They totally aced it.
Dude you gotta dive into Heart!! They were founded by the Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy from Seattle in the early 70s. Their debut 'Dreamboat Annie' is a classic hard Rock cornerstone. Songs you MUST hear: Barracuda Crazy on You Magic Man Mistral Winds Annie was one of the greatest rock singers of the 70s, right up there with Freddie and Robert...
Plant has said that they forgot to invite Jason Bonham (and were a bit annoyed with themselves). So when he saw him playing, on Bonzo's kit wearing his Bolo, I think that's why he had that frozen look on his face and tears in his eyes for a chunk of the song.
Imagine having to do this in front of Led Zep live as they did! This was part of a tribute to them. Ann Wilson , singer, was in her 60’s here. Sister Nancy was in her fifties. They’re amazing.
There is a deep conection betwen Chris Cornell, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin. You can check Soundgarden - Hyde Park live 2012 where Jimmy Page was on the backstage.Ann and Nancy and Chris are from Seattle and was a old friends.
Jason looking up as she sang Heaven always gets me. Plant was very close to Bonham, and had invited Jason to attend with them - he didn't know he was going to play. Heart has several Zep covers on here, all pretty good.
You may want to listen to Barracuda, Magic Man and Crazy On You from Heart. They have so many more great songs, but these kicked them off in the 70’s. They really are fantastic!
Heart are so awesome!! You would really like the whole tribute. The drummer was Jason Bonham … John Bonham’s son. Heart kills it and they always do ❤️❤️❤️
JOHN (Bonzo) BONHAM Was A SELF taut DRUMMER And HE taut his SON JASON HOW TO PLAY DRUM'S And NOW HE is a very good DRUMMER And JOHN Bonzo BONHAM WOULD BE PROUD OF his SON JASON Playing the DRUMS in this Honering Of The WORLD'S GREATEST BAND EVER,LED ZEPPELIN
Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart are HUGE Zep fans. Singer Ann's voice has been called "the female Robert Plant". They took huge inspiration from Zep, such as "borrowing" the galloping bass line in Achilles for their song, Barracuda. They'd regularly sing Zep songs in concert. It's funny you should mention Peter Green's song "Oh Well" because, if you recall, Zep took the start/stop flow of Black Dog from that exact song (try listening to both sometime). When they heard they were receiving the Kennedy Center Honor, Robert called Jason and asked him if he'd come along as his guest but Jason had to "refuse" because he knew he'd be performing onstage and didn't want to let the cat out of the bag. He said keeping that secret from Robert was one of the most difficult things he ever had to do. Ann said in an interview that they were wracked with nerves to be performing in front of Zep and that, right before they were to go on, guitarist Nancy's bottle went as she turned to Ann, panic-stricken and told her she couldn't do it. Ann said she told her that all they needed to do was get through it and they could fall apart after. I don't blame them! Who *wouldn't* be nervous performing such an iconic song in front of its creators? Here's a link to an article with Robert answering how he felt during this performance: ledzepnews.com/2018/06/23/robert-plant-on-stairway-to-heaven-its-like-a-relative-of-mine-somewhere/
The girl playing the 6 string and the singer, are sisters. They are Heart and you'll definitely wanna check em out. Barracuda, Magic Man, Stick it out...all great tunes to get started with. Bebe LA Strange is also good, Crazy on You, Straight On...there are quite a few to pick from. Both sisters sing and play guitars and take turns on lead vocals...Great band from 70s and 80s...
Def check out Heart. Two sister's who got their start in the 70's. Often covering Zep in their shows. Big hits incl Barracuda, Magic Man, Crazy On You, Alone, Never, Dog & Butterfly, Straight On, These Dreams and more. Kennedy Center Honors was established by JFK. Annual event honoring those who have contributed to American culture thru the arts. You see the medals on the guys, seated next to Page is David Letterman, he was awarded as well as others. And the sitting Pres, hence the Obama's, is in attendance, there's a dinner/reception at the White House, all that official stuff, pretty grand. There are only a handful of rock artists that have received these medals. Jason toured with Ann/Nancy, when asked, he advised the Wilson sister's should tribute Stairway. Ann was 62y when she belted this out in 2012. Tear up every time I watch this along with Plant, missing his mate, yet they represented him perfectly. Plant realized it, so much more of a deeper meaning for him. 💔 RIP Bonzo, we are still rockin ya and teaching those all around us!! 😪👍🏽 Def check out Heart. ❤❤
I always cry watching this one and I always think about their thoughts at that moment. Did all their memories performing this are back? How does it feel to watch somebody else perform their song. And Jason Bonham on drums is great❤️I love that video. Thank you Rory!
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were both huge fans of Jeff Buckley, who was also friends with Chris Cornell. You really need to go down the jeff buckley rabbit hole soon!
I was going to recommend you check out Heart but I figured your plate's too full. Another Canadian band btw (even though the sisters are from Seattle).
Ann Wilson is one of the best rock vocalists EVER !!!! Floor Jensen is also killer but more classically trained and slightly less raw but also amazing. Heart : Barracuda, If looks could kill, Crazy on you and Alone. Start with those 4 songs to get an idea of her voice. The Wilson sisters are rock legends and are Canadian just like Rush and The Tea Party.
The Wilson sisters are not Canadian, although they did live there for awhile while one of their band was avoiding the Viet Nam draft. They are from the Seattle area, Bellevue to be exact.
Please dont stop mid sex, i mean mid song. Kennedy center honors is an annual event since the 70s for all the fine arts including ballet, acting classical, opera, country, rock, jazz, blues etc.
Heart - Barracuda!!! Ann sings her heart out.
Gets me every time, seeing Jimmy Page really digging it.
Definitely ck out more HEART ❤️
Dude your grin says it all
This performance makes me tear up.
Every time.
Had a huge crush on Ann growing up. I guess everyone else fancied Nancy but Ann was a sweetheart.
That would bring a tear to a glass eye😢
Heart is incredible
Ann and Nancy are the ladies of Heart! They were real fire back in the 70,s! They would sing a few Zeppelin songs as oncore’s!!
You should check out Heart ❤️ Ann Wilson has one of the best voices in rock male or female. She was in her 60's here. Her sister Nancy Wilson is a great guitarist and also has an excellent voice as well.
Songs

Rory, you can't go wrong with any of these songs, excellent list Debbie Plato !
@@phantompower Thanks 😊
Rory...love your reaction.
The ladies from Heart killed it...sheer bravery to perform a zeppelin song in front of zeppelin.
🤘
the drummer is the son of the late led zeppelin drummer... tremendous tribute and legacy
Greatest tribute ever! Period!
Um, it's time to react to some Heart! 🎸 Now there is another Rabbit Hole to go down!
I don't know if this was mentioned, but Ann Wilson was 62 years old (and fighting the flu!) when this tribute was recorded in 2012. What a set of pipes!
