AND....... Jason didn't tell the band he was going to be there. They wanted him there but he said he had "a gig to play" that night. Little did they know! @@jimmcevers9443
2012 was when this was done. It was to honor Led Zeppelin and yes, that's the band members with the rainbow neck lanyards on. The drummer is the son of Led Zeppelin's original, late drummer, John Bonham. His name is Jason Bonham.
Can you imagine being the studio musician playing lead guitar in this tribute performance while being not just watched, but scrutinized, note by note, by the person who created it on the guitar, The Maestro himself, Mr. James Page? Can you just imagine it? No pressure there, lol! But the studio guitarist, Shane Fontayne, not only did a fine job, he also received a sign of approval from Jimmy Page. Job well done, young man! What a great honor for both of them! Coincidentally, Jimmy Page started out as a session guitarist in his late teens looking to hone his skills and to make a name for himself.
I have seen this a number of times and it is THE best cover of any song, ever. Heart are a great band and Ann Wilson one of the best female singers of all time.
Heart has covered Led Zeppelin for decades! Search for Heart doing Black Dog, Immigrant Song or even just Heart doing Led Zeppelin on YT. Ann's voice covers Robert Plant so well since she has one of the greatest female voices in rock! Keep up the great work and Merry Christmas!!
That was the best! Heart was the perfect band to play Zeppelin. I think this was one of the best Kennedy Center award tibute that I have seen and you could just be assured that the Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul were definately impressed as well. Alos how great was that to have Jason Bonham play the drums. He made his Dad, the Late John Bonham and the rest of the band proud. Thanks for the reaction!
Love your reaction to this. I cried first time i seen it. Seeing Robert with tears in his eyes. Seeing Jason, original drummer, RIP John.😢😢Jason at the end looking up at that certain point😢and him and the choir having Johns hat on, just tear jerking. No one could have sang this and done true justice to LZ than Ann Wilson. Great reaction. Thanks.
Excellent reaction!!! Love your enthusiasm!!! You should check out the entire tribute!!! The entire band Heart, wasn't there...only Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart were there. Lots of musicians there too!! Well worth watching!!🎶🎼🎵🎹🎧🎸🎤🥁🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Hi Ace! Others who honored Zeppelin was Jack Black, In a surprise twist, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins sings lead vocals while frontman Dave Grohl takes the drum kit on "Rock and Roll." Kid Rock sings "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "Ramble On," and Lenny Kravitz performs "Whole Lotta Love." They performed in front of Led Zeppelin band members. Reason Robert teared up was because hecwas missing his best friend John Bonham the drummer. Jason Bonham (John's son) surprised them by being there. Jason is also Robert Plant's godson.
What an honor for Heart to be a part of that and they were huge Led Zeppelin fans and Nancy Wilson just totally kills it. Especially her belting at the end. It makes my allergies act up every time they first show Bonzo's son sitting at the drum kit. And then when he plays the drums every bit as hard and with just as much authority as his dad did, and then you see Robert Plant's reaction, he can hardly keep the tears out of his eyes. Seeing the Obamas there is just kind of icing on the cake, laugh.
Because this was live, I am always amazed at how well she stood out against all the other performers on that stage! Shout out to the sound tech!@@debbiemontgomery9635
The gala event took place Sunday, December 3, 2023, and was hosted by previous Honoree Gloria Estefan. The show will air Wednesday, December 27 (8:00-10:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television. Network and stream on Paramount+. Honorees this year are. comedian and actor Billy Crystal, opera singer Renée Fleming, the Bee Gees' Barry Gibb, rapper and actress Queen Latifah and singer Dionne Warwick. ❤❤
The Kennedy center is a performing art center in Washington DC that honors 2 or 3 performers a year. That year they were honoring zeppelin. The drummer was John Bonham son and the bowler hat was his father’s. Heart was the last of many performers that night. And keep in mind Nancy and Ann Wilson aren’t much younger than Jimmy, Robert orJPJ. They were phenomenal.
You've really got to listen to some of Heart, female rock band (one of my favorites). They are incredible musicians...ALL of them. Led Zeppelin was probably amazed at the incredible performance in their honor. That, and hearing that incredible guitar solo performed by a guy wearing a suit and tie!

Best tribute song I have ever seen/heard. Whoever orchestrated this ensemble should be given an award of some sort. I am sure Robert Plant, Jimi Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham (RIP) are very proud to have been honored with this rendition of arguably one of the most well known rock songs of all time. It almost made Robert Plant lose all composure, and Jimi Page was just ecststic. Well done to everybody, especially Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, the strings, both choirs, John Bonham (Son of the drummer Jason Bonham) and whoever that lead guitarist is... WHAT A BANGER!!!!! Oh yeah, great reaction as well, your enthusiasm fit right in with the performance.
Heart were contemporaries of LZ and hit makers in their own right. Here- Miss Ann Wilson was 62! She’s the greatest female rock singer- check out their “ Barracuda”! ❤
And don't worry, Ace. Many people have commented that they elevated the song. And that it is actually better than the original. For other "elevated" classics, see the "Playing for change" series of videos....
Sisters Ann (vocals) and Nancy (guitar) Wilson, and their band Heart, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about six months after this. Ann was 62 and Nancy 58 at this performance. Jason Bonham, the drummer is the son of the original drummer John Bonham and is the Godson of Robert Plant, Led Zeppelin’s singer.
You should also check out Beth Hart and Jeff Beck performing "I'd Rather Go Blind" at the same show. Jeff Beck was invited to perform it to honor Buddy Guy, he said the only way he'd do it was if they got Beth Hart to do the vocals.
Heart started out as primarily a Led Zeppelin cover band, so they were the PERFECT choice for Stairway. Their first album, Dreamboat Annie, is phenomenal and, in my opinion, one of the best debut albums ever. One of my favorite moments is seeing cellist Yo Yo Ma rocking out in the audience. Look him up.
Need vids Try The Song Remains the Same A-along with The Rain Song at MSG It will solidify your love for this band and the gifts they left us to listen to forever Rock on
The story is that Robert Plant ( lead singer of Zeppelin), asked his Godson, Jason Bonham (the son of the only drummer for Zeppelin) if he would attend this event with him. Jason told him he had another engagement that evening and couldn't attend. When he was announced, thats why Robert was so emotional throughout. He was thoroughly impressed. Heart was given permission that night by Jimmy Page to record or release anything Led Zeppelin had recorded.
The drummer playing this with heart is the son of the original Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. For some reason I can't remember his first name I think it's Jason Barnum. But he is almost as good as his father was this is a great version of stairway to heaven
i am furious you got a version with an entire verse cut out YES, CUT OUT AND THE GUITAR SOLO CUT CUT CUT AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nancy has a very lovely voice too but Ann has the power and the wider range. That's okay because Nancy is a very polished and expert guitarist. I've always admired them both!
Heart has been covering Zep since the 70s. You should go back in time and check them out in their youth. They were awesome, not only in their covers but also their original work. In fact, check out Magic Man by them. You'll love the funk they had back in the day.

My favorite Zep cover by Heart is "Battle Of Evermore". They do all of their Led Zeppelin covers well but that is the best IMO.

True Led Zep groupies.
Isn't Heart known to be the "female Led Zeppelin"??? Rightly so! Another showcase of Ann's voice is their rendition of Unchained Melody.
Ann was 62 yrs old when she knocked that out of the park. ❤
Epic performance.....Ann Wilson is 62 years old in this video think about that for a sec.
Thank you for your reaction! Your smiling face made made day!
This is the difference between a cover and a tribute.❤
Your best reaction so far Brother! 😊
