Sharing the early planning stages with us is so helpful. Reviewing source artwork, identifying key points, and incorporating them into a design; we don't see that side of the hobby as much as builds themselves. There's a wealth of great info available on how to build, but less available on the process of figuring out what to build. I really appreciate you sharing that creative planning phase.
Glad you liked that! Im always unsure which parts people really gravitate to unless i get comments like these. I will refine and expand on this in future videos
This has such a great oldschool 40k vibe. Back in the day GW expected gamers to do this sort of thing a lot more, since plastic terrain kits weren't yet feasible.
This is an inspired build. I've never seen Eldar buildings done so well. That command center could be used for a lot of pulp scifi or some villain's lair.
Beautiful work. I've always been an Eldar boy, since seeing Jes' concept sketches in 1990 (something I've tried to pass on to my son - we were painting Swooping Hawks and Harlequins this weekend - we now have a new project to aspire to!). Thanks, as always.
I still have PTSD from painting alternate blue and white feathers on a swooping hawk exarch when I was 12 before I knew about thinning paints lol. Happy crafting with your son! Sounds like a blast
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop cheers! He's also 12; he painted an Exarch on Sunday in exactly the same scheme...though thankfully has my years' worth of chalky-white-paint-scar-tissue to insist he dilute and dilute again!
Totally thought this was 3d printed in the thumbnail. Looks like a very intimidating scratch build, but your nailed it, sir. You must have been using pringling to help get those organic holes and curves just right.
Using googly eyes was BRILLIANT. I love the fact that so much of this was from bits and pieces from the Dollar Store. I'm new here so maybe that's what you always do, but I'm really impressed.
I love how you know it's not perfect and you're fine with it. We need more of that attitude, because despite the imperfections, the final piece looks great. Creative use of seemingly random plastic shapes, and an enjoyable organic process. Keep it up, Eric.
I build primarily for 1:18 scale action figure buildings and use a lot of your techniques. You have some brilliant methods to use items that I used to just pass over at a dollar store. Now I go and fill up my cart with every kind of funnel and frizbee and weird summer toy as I can see how they can be incorporated into my city terrain. Love your channel. Great work!!!
Excellent use of imagination and random bit to make a very convincing Eldar structure. If you don’t already have one, I’d recommend you get a jig saw. You’ll be able to cut through mdf and wood with ease.
I love the smooth curves of the sanded pink foam! - especially those egg-shaped spaces that look like the blobs that come out of a lava lamp. The smooth curves and tall towers are perfect. The jewels are brilliant. I also appreciate the pep talks, that we should not beat ourselves up striving for perfection - so wise and so encouraging! A-crafting we shall go....
I know this is an older video but I've watched it many times and LOVE what you did here, Eric! I am delving into bringing back some of the old Eldar looks and this is exactly what I want to do so my own Eldar can feel at home! Great work and I love how you walk us through your process- even when it's an OOPS!
Eldar terrain is an idea I've been kicking around for a few years now. This is one of the best I've seen. I was considering dish detergent bottles, laundry detergent as well. All the odd shapes. I love the google eyes, that's brilliant. I was going in the direction of caulk- wiped off with a bit of wet sponge ª to fill any gaps.
Going to show my age to all the Brits here....could you imagine Blue Peter with dollar store access? Very creative and love seeing the concept, thought process and parts selection at the start....another brilliant build.
Eldar were my first entry into the warhammer hobby. I'm an avid terrain builder but alas each time I've sat down to try and make some accompanying Eldar terrain I wind up scrapping it in disappointment. Seeing your awesome build has me contemplating another attempt. The googly-eye spirit stones are an inspired idea. Thank you.
Couple of things: first this is a fantastic build. Second, the ideas of using epa foam to make the curved glyphs, the spackle to blend the curves, and the gesso to give the flat white surface are all great!. Last, when I saw the thumbnail for the video, I feared we had completely lost you to 3d printing, and that made me sad because your building techniques are so accessible. I'm super happy that they continue to be👍👍👍
I wonder if I can take this and do some fantasy elf terrain in similar fashion... going to rummage through my bits-wardrobe. Super original, never seen similar thing so far! :)
Totally awesome. Clean futuristic lines that look as though they have been grown more than built. At last a good use for googly eyes where you cant see what they are. All the best, stay safe.
That gesso was the perfect element to achieve the right wraithbone texture. Great piece of terrain. Also very refreshing to see you approaching non-imperial/gorkamorka terrain.
And they didn’t come up with those styles on their own. This didn’t come from a vacuum. As often happens, they stand on the shoulders of giants. They learned them from Les Edwards and Michael Whelan who were essentially putting into art Ray Bradbury’s detailed descriptions of white towers, spires, etc. in Martian Chronicles. Before that, look at the white towers, domes and minarets sketched and painted by Frazetta for Burrough’s Barsoom novels (the film John Carter did them justice). Before Frazetta’s depictions of alien white towers, domes and other organic spires, there were even earlier German depictions of Martian life, with ancient cities that could have passed for Eldar architecture today.
I just spent a long while going through some of the artists you mentioned in your posts. I had forgotten how much i enjoy les edwards, and i havent seen that much of frazettas barsoom stuff. Very cool!
Craftworld architecture always reminded me of the Ayleids from the elder scrolls. There's clear inspiration taken from that original artwork and I love to see how they relate.
I’m a barely legal straight male but if I wasn’t I’d definetly have fallen in love with you I really like this and you just... sound and look as smooth as this build man. Well done!
Hey Eric, please make the final cinematic shots longer (in all new builds, not just this one)! I dig them sooo much, especially the ones taken from the model eyes' perspectives. Currently, I have to rewatch the last 2 minutes a couple times to feed my eyes properly :p
I'm honestly extremely impressed with how such a "wing-it" approach to this project resulted in such a fantastic-looking build. It gives me a lot of confidence for my own Eldar terrain ideas. Thanks for another great video, and more cool ideas. Looks great!!

The craftworld sings to me and I respond in kind! Beautiful piece, Eldar shapes are just a nightmare to manufacture and you eyeballed it anyway. Incredible job, love the result.
I really appreciate the section at the beginning about how you looked at the design elements. I did some Eldar inspired stuff a bit ago, and struggled with nailing down the design aesthetic. This was a big help, and my next batch will be better!
This is awesome. Love the contrast between this and the grimdark. I also like how you keep moving forward with the project. Not obsessing over every minor detail, just getting it done. This is something I need to work on so I find this video very encouraging.
I gonna use that old plastictubething i found in my older sisters drawer for an eldar tower. It has these soulstone portusions on it allready and probably even lights up, once i get a battery that fits.
This looks fantastic mate! It's amazing what one can do with simple cheap toys. I love going to my local cheap store to buy toys to convert into terrain pieces. My wife always thinks it's hilarious to see both me and my youngest son standing in the toy section :-D. It has gone so far that my children (especially the two oldest) bringing me their toys from when they were little, asking me if i can use it for something :-) even my wife never throws empty jars or canisters or whatever away before asking me if i can use it to build something.
Really interesting. Among all the dirty, rusty industrial terrain, this is really a fresh breath of air. So nice that you went for a challenging build.

That's a great piece of terrain; in fact, it is freakin' phenomenal. I now imagine the all Eldar armour, vehicles and buildings as being covered in Googly-Eyes. 20:37 Terminators versus Guardians? I don't think those Eldar Warriors have quite thought this thing through enough. "Run Away! Fleee!!!"
