Tell Matt, when my son was young if you asked him to name the four seasons he would tell you “ fishing, squirrels, turkey and deer”.
😀
Sounds like he is a good son.
Ain’t that the truth when I was growing up.
😂
That's the best I heard I used to ask if they have sling shot season
AS A OLD MAN YOU KIDS BRING BACK A LOT OF MEMORIES..MOUNTAINS ARE GODS COUNTRY..GOD BLESS YOU BOTH
I can sure see a big change in Matt since he retired. God Bless you in all you do. I sure do enjoy watching the Matt and Tipper outside, nightly chat. You are far more interesting than TV.
Thank you so much 😀
kathybrown True! Seems like a heavy loads been lifted from him. Seems much happier.
Tipper and Matt, it just seems to me that Matt seems so happy. I've not seen him this happy for a long time. I just love listening to you both talk no matter what you're talking about. Thank you both so much for sharing.
So glad you enjoyed visiting with us 😀
He seems more alive, like a ton of bricks lifted from his shoulders.
So Matt is retired from working for the man, but now working for y'all.
My mom was from Appalachia. She and her parents moved to Omaha, Nebraska so they could find work when my mom was 14 years old. I grew up here in the Midwest eating Grannny’s cornbread and fresh vegetables from my grandparents garden as I listened to Granny describe the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains she grew up in. Mom was an only child and I don’t have ties to any other relatives from that region. She and my grandparents passed away years ago and I miss them dearly. Hearing you all talk is such a comfort to me! Learning about the Appalachian culture and being able to share that with my children is absolutely priceless. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us. ❤️❤️❤️
It is such a beautiful place and in the fall it's breathtaking driving thru the Smokey Mountains. I can't travel anymore I'm from KY. 🌻
Never too late to find those relatives and create a bond. I did after 65 years of separation.
So glad you enjoy our videos 😀
You were blessed
You’re my bedtime story every Sunday night ( it’s just after midnight in Paris). Thank you both. You’re a wonderful storyteller.
Our pleasure!
Midnight in Paris sounds lovely ❤❤
My morning show here in Australia 😄
Steph
Such a lovely thought...the lights of Paris while listening to the tales of Appalachia!
I would love to go to Paris someday
Wow! Amazing potatoes! I can see the happiness in you and your whole family since Matt has semi retired! I love watching the older tv shows. Andy Griffith is my favorite. Thank you Tipper and Matt for sharing your beautiful garden and day with us. God Bless
Matt looks so much more relaxed! You do too! Great decision, love y'all ❤
I'm guessing they are both so happy and relieved that they get to work together now. Such a blessing for them 😊❤
😀 Thank you!!
Matt, don’t worry about jury duty. Once you fill out the questionnaire, they’ll pass right over you.
My Daddy pulled us on a car hood all over everywhere every winter behind his old truck. We loved it. I am surprised Momma let him do that. Thanks for reminding me of some good times and good memories. Made me smile.
We live in the mountains of Virginia, so our plants have only been producing for about the last 4 weeks, so we still have plenty to pick. I'm proud that Matt won't try to get out of the jury duty.
I love that Matt likes to watch old commercials on UA-cam! My husband and I do too. We won't watch a commercial on TV now, but we love the nostalgia of the old ones!
Matt looks so content! I am so happy that he is able to work at his own pace. I think the stationary camera in the woods would be awesome, something to ponder over. We lost a very dear friend to cancer last night! She’s been battling this for 12 years. My wife and Nancy would get on the phone and chat for 3 hours at a time. 4 days ago, they had a lovely long conversation. Praying for Granny! Enjoy your new working arrangements, sounds marvellous!❤️🙏
I'm so sorry you lost her Gary.
Another peaceful Sunday afternoon. Thanks Tipper and Matt! 🥰
Thank you for being such a Blessing to me- I live in the Alabama Appalachian mountains- I’m 76 now and health wise can’t do the things I use to ❤️. So of Coarse enjoy all your gatherings of your garden and the girls and All❤
I have such a feeling of peace when I watch your videos ❤
I live in western NY state, near the PA border. Fall is in the air here too. Crisp in the am and pm, but a high of 82 today. There is one yellow leaf on the aspen tree out my kitchen window. I'm so sorry to hear about Matt's jury duty. It made me proud to hear him talk about his civic duty though! I'm 60. I'd be afraid I'd break something if I tried sledding. Broke my ankle 20 years ago, so I don't dare ice skate anymore either. Nothing like spending time out in the cold and then having hot chocolate and toast.
The change has been good for Matt. He looks so much more relaxed, Tipper. I'm so happy for your two.
My husband and I are watching you on TV as I type this on my phone - I thought to myself and shared with him that your channel is what reality TV really is/should be. Real lives. Decent content..
we love watching y’all’s and the girls’ channel too.
BTW I was up that way yesterday at the Brasstown Community Center, doing my first jug class. I thought about y’all while we rode through.
Keep up the great work!
God bless you all and prayers for Granny 🙏🏼
Thank you 😀
I concur like the bird Mat mentioned, I come every day to watch y'all because I like y'all 🥰. Blessings.
Still another month of summer. Don't wish it away. My favorite time of year. I love your relaxing, quiet chats.
By law, they have to wait a full year before summoning you again. If Matt can postpone to just past deer season and then serve, then he might not be called again until a full year goes by which should keep him clear for deer season in the future.
Matt, you keep enjoying your retirement you look so relaxed 👍
Enjoyed this video very much. Such a relaxing time. Blessings to you all and Granny. Granny we love you.
Lovely visit... Sending loving and peace-filled thoughts to everyone.
We grow elderberries too but this is what I've always understood about them. You shouldn't eat them raw you should only eat them cooked or in wine, but they're toxic if you eat them raw. You'll have to let me know if anything happened to you. 🙏 Let me know! Here's what I found out online a while back a few years back when we planted ours: People can eat elderflowers raw or cooked. However, raw elderberries, as well as the seeds, leaves, and bark of the tree, contain a toxic substance.
Eating or drinking raw elderberries or another toxic part of the plant can lead to nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Yes, never eat them raw! Hope you don’t have a bellyache!❤
I came here to make sure someone was going to mention this ❤️🙏🏻
@@hereigns7221my granddaughter grows and harvests elderberries. That's what she told me. She makes syrup from them to use for taking when they're sick.
My daddy is 94 yrs old and makes elderberry jelly. He’s says not to eat the berries raw. Great bounty of potatoes!! It’s so hot here in south Louisiana 95 today.
They didn't make me sick 😀 But thank you for the info 😀
Love Sunday evening/afternoon chats! Hopefully Matt won't have to work jury duty! That was a lot of potatoes from one plant or potato peel. Continued prayers for Granny.
Thanks for sharing Tipper!
I love your videos. I’m so appreciative of our heritage. Some people don’t know anything about where they came from. I thank God that I know mine.
I’m so pleased for you both, with Matt being able to work from home. Your morning temps sound wonderful. Here in Texas this afternoon, it was 103.8°. No rain for 3 months. Landscape looks like crispy Fritos! Come on winter!
Here in Missouri, heat index of 112 today. 😢
When ya'll dinked your popsicles together I thought about the chocolate and peanut butter commercial....then Matt said it. It is funny how things make ya think of old commercials or old songs. Our house is always filled with somebody singin something. It is so good to see ya'll able to work together all the time now.
Talkin' snow and snowmen makes this 105° Oklahoma heat more tolerable. Thanks!😅
In Australia, when you turn 70 you can opt out of doing jury duty because of age. My father-in-law did that last week, he was so happy about being able to tick the over 70s box 😂
Steph
I didn't watch this whole video. But, some (maybe all of them) States here in the U.S. we can opt out if jury duty at age 65.
@@oldblackstock2499 In Illinois the age is 70
@@sydneybeanpug Thanks, I didn't know that.
So glad Matt is having more time at home to enjoy with you and family!! Hopefully jury duty won't take a lot of that time!! Old tv shows are the best. Great video!!
Well, Matt made me smile when you were talking about sledding, and he said he didn't think it wasn't a great idea "at our age." I'm in my mid-seventies, and I still break out my old metal flying saucer a couple of times every winter. It gives a good ride even on a couple inches of snow . . . and if you're lucky, it spins a bit while it carries you down the hill. I still whoop when I get a good run too. It's only walking back up the hill that makes me remember how old I am. 😉 Sure do love seeing you two enjoying one another's company. Thanks always.
I just love watching videos like this. You can see the peace and relaxation you both feel. Your children and grand children will appreciate this someday! Thank you so much for sharing what you do . God Bless you all . I love watching shorts of Granny's house , makes me miss my Grandma .
Thank you!!
I always watch your videos on sundays after cleaning up the dinner dishes. It’s very relaxing and I always look forward to it! ❤
Thank you 😀
You can even make elderberry catsup! Let me know if you want the recipe. Glad you guys are cooling off. We're 106, with 110 heat index in NE Oklahoma.
I hope Tipper does want that recipe. I wan't to see her making up some.❤
Listening to you two talk helps de-stress me❤
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled 🙏❤️
If Matt stays a few days with Papaw Toney he can record videos of making sausage & pickling corn.
If you can find a metal sliding board off of an old swing set you'll have the best snowsled ever.
107 here in SE Tx. With humidity it feels like 113.
Matt, I kayak camp & fish regularly. It's super fun....!!
I got called to jury duty a few months ago, but luckily I didn’t get on the trial, it was the most boring trial ever, it was a collections agency suing an individual for a few thousand dollars.
It was quite chilly this morning in our area of western Maryland. I think it was 56°, which is much cooler than most mornings. But you can tell fall is on the way! I’ll be glad not to have to mow, but you know the snow shoveling will be coming
Thirty-some years ago, I saw a fisherman at a mountain lake with what I'll call a cross between waders and an inflatable raft. The "bubble" of the raft was at his waist, and the rubber extended down into rubber leggings so he could walk out into the water and propel himself with his legs once the water got deep enough. There was even a built-in pole holder! Pretty unforgettable sight!
Thank you Matt and Tipper for sharing your Sunday with us stay safe
Love all those taters and your 🎃 pumpkins are doing great theyre beautiful ❤ found the first green acorn today in the garden that ive seen so fall is coming
My husband and I retired March 2022 and I got a jury summons in August, thankfully I only had to stay one day! Hope Matt doesn’t miss deer season ❤
Love hearing the wind. It puts me to sleep. Loved the gathering you did today. Flowers are beautiful. Miss the girls.
Thanks for the nice chat. I could actually smell the rich dirt when you were getting tators out of the garden.
Zucchini and Squash have grown great for me. Everyone has enjoyed them as fast as I can grow them
Luv u Guys Together sharing All this Wonderful information regarding, Eating and Loving each other. Keep up the Great Work and I am Elated that Matt will be with us more now since he Retired. God be the Glory!
It's getting ready to be +100 degrees here in southern Illinois.
What part of Southern Illinois? My paternal family lives in Mounds/ Cairo
@@maryturner3473 Not far - Anna, IL.
My sis and I loved the "chocks" comms. "I see little lights, Over there".
God bless you both keep up the videos really enjoy them
It is 110° here in Central Texas at 5:30 pm today!! We need some of your cooler weather. Please!!
Oh goodness!
Those are beautiful big potatoes. Those are a meal alone with all the good toppings!
I love it! Quality Control. Lol. Y'all are too funny. Prayers to you all.
I can't hardly grasp any time. It's always flying by😮 here and gone before you know it.👩🌾🤗
I said "you got chocolate on my peanut butter" at the same time as Matt. Great minds think alike! I watch the old commercials on UA-cam, too. I admire Matt's feelings about doing jury duty. So many people try to get out of it. Having said that, I hope he catches a break and isn't picked, so that he can go hunting.
I enjoy watching you and Matt working your garden.
Looks like you enjoy it so. Much.❤❤
Thank you 😊
Matt, years ago when I was summoned for jury duty and they interviewed me. They told me I seemed a little nervous . I said yes I was that I had never been asked the questions they were asking me….right then they thanked me but told me I was dismissed. What a relief!
Although it is my dream to live in an area such as yours but it may not happen at this point so I just want to thank you so much for sharing your life and helping me live out my dream vicariously through yours. Y’all have been such an inspiration and even if my location doesn’t or can’t change, I’m still able to live it in my spirit and in my mind which helps me to live contented and appreciatively right where I am. Thank you for that beautiful gift. Keep doing what you’re doing because it uplifts and inspires in ways you may not know. My prayer is that God continually bless you and keep you. Many hugs and prayers for Granny. She reminds me of my own grandmother who is nearing 93 and that I usually only get to see a precious once or twice a year because I live 600 miles away.
So glad you enjoy our videos! Thank you 😀
Such a joy to eat your own harvest! What a blessing. I really enjoy eating from my small garden.
Popsicle hour is my favorite time. That and when you're canning or cooking something wonderful. Hope you have a blessed day.
Those taters that grew from the peels in the compost pile sure are pretty. I hope Matt gets to deer hunt this season. Looks like y’all’s Fall garden is gonna do good. Hope y’all have a wonderful week. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida 😎🦩🌞🦩😎
May the blessings of our father GOD continue to be with yall always, thanks for sharing your lives with us and teaching us .
I truly feel blessed myself to listen.😊❤😊
Bless you and thank you!
I ❤️ the beautiful Appalachians!!
It’s also fun to use inner tubs like a sled.
It’s hot here in SE KY! One night it felt fall ish but I can feel fall all by myself. I think it’s going to be an early fall. Praying for y’all your family
Made Elderberry Syrup today. Putting a tbsp into my water daily now. A tip from another Appalachian friend. Building our immune system for the long winter! Love your potato harvest! So nice you can grow fall plantings! Hotter than a fritter in NE this week! The humidity off the charts. Feels like 108. A friend reminded me it’s “Summer”🥰
Mom always had tomatoes that were not ripe enough to pick. We would pull the stalks and hang upside down in the old fruit cellar and would have ripe tomatoes into Nov. We would put the butternut squash in a garden trailer in the fruit cellart too. Matt, you seem a lot more relax.
I have been watching all 4 of you ❤ Actually just found your family like 7 days ago ❤ I'm so very Proud of you all and sharing your life as you do. I live in Eastern Ky . Born and raised. Moved away for work, but always came home 🏡 ❤️ Now back for good 💯💯 I am so country like you all and Love where I am from of !! Home sweet Home 🏠❤️ I so relate with your family 🙏❤️ I'm almost 60 and working on my tiny garden. It's all I can handle by myself . My kids live in N.C. & Richmond Ky, plus my 4 G- babes ❤️ I don't see them like I want , which would be everyday 😢😢 But they are grown with their families & work and I understand. So, so happy you have your babies so close ❤️🙏❤️ I always learn so much from you Momma & Dad 💖 Again , Thank you all for giving such amazing videos, your family & the Love ❤️ You all are like my family made over. ❤ God Bless & Stay Safe ❤️🙏💯
So glad you found us! Thank you for the kind words and for sharing a bit about you and your family 😊 Sounds like we have much in common!
I love how relaxed Matt is getting to be in front of the camera, and he is so funny. Both of you, when your dimples show, we know something funny is gonna be said. My husband is unwell, and I love to relax with you if even for half an hour. Thank you!
So glad you enjoy our videos. I'm so sorry your husband is sick. I will pray for him!
Another wonderful Sunday visiting with y’all, my favorite part of the evening is watching your videos ❤️
You’re going to have a nice fall garden! I realy enjoy your videos. Those volunteer potatoes almost look like baking potatoes russets. Beautiful! Y’all seem so happy! That’s so good.
I have sleighed on a car hood. We had to bunnies cord tires on the trees at the bottom cuz we of course couldn't steer it. Everybody had to lean all the way right or vice versa.😅. It still hurt when you hit. But, we persevered. That's what we did for fun in winter. Miss those days. 😢
My darling daughter-in-law (originally from the city) has taken to the country like a fish to water and delivers some canned goody or another at least once a week This week it was garlic and herb tomato sauce (made from our garden) plus some bread she made. I am super blessed to have them both right next door.
That is wonderful 😀
We have pulled up 70s commercials on UA-cam rabbit hole one day too 😂.. being born in 68 and 69 we grew up with them .
Clara Peller the "where's the beef " lady, died in 1987, three years after the commercial first aired.
My wife and I are in Boone looking for cooler temps (than in Mt Pleasant SC)...looks like the heat followed up as it is to be in the high 80's while we are here. Oh well....
My favorite part of Sunday evening💕
Ok Tipper, I completely agree that we are gonna have a snowy winter. Not sure if you watch Ryan Hall the young meteorologist. He’s amazing. In fact, if there’s bad weather he will go live & his reports are more accurate than the weather channel. Well he said that the south is going to have a very cold & snowy winter. So!!!! Let’s go sledding!!!! 😊😊😊😊 ⛄️ ❄️ ⛄️❄️⛄️❄️⛄️❄️⛄️⛄️See y’all Tuesday in Bryson City. 😊
See you Tuesday!! 😀
In 2023 the autumnal equinox will occur on 23 September at 6:50am GMT (7:50am BST).
Tipper, I wish you could send a little of that cool breeze my way! It's 98 and feels like 112 here in AR and the rest of the week is going to be hotter. I would love to have a couple of big snows this winter! We are praying for granny and all of your sweet family!
Thank ya'll ❤
❤️
I hear ya loud an clear! I had to work yesterday but enjoyed some time in my small garden today and as much as I tried to extend the season signs of plants coming to the end of their productive time is all around me.
I really enjoy watching you and Matt sitting and talking.
Thank you!
70* hot after 100+" of snow, I'm missing leaves though. Not too many leaves here.
snow, cold, rain, ALL four letter words
Would love a taste of fall around here. Was 109 today.
I love to watch the old commercial channels too! Pretty weather and a good harvest for y'all! Sending love from Memphis~
My husband loves the old commercials too!
Haha! I thought I was the only one watching those commercials. I like the old Christmas ones. My favorites are Corey Feldman as a small kid sneaking down the stairs to give Santa McDonalds gift certificates or the Folgers one where the oldest son comes home from college early in the morning and wakes his family up by making coffee.
I think this summer flew! So much so that I am not wanting fall to.come yet and I love fall. I will be planting my fall garden this weekend but now I feel behind. It's been upper 90's, low 100's so I haven't been wanting to plant in that heat.
You can have ALL the snow after Christmas.😄 Have a.great week! ❤❤
I’m always quoting “Gee your hair spells terrific” from a commercial in my childhood.
😀
I never had a sled until 1979 winter at ASU in Boone, we used the cafeteria trays, so fun !
Y'all talking about sledding reminded me of when I was a kid. We had a favorite sledding hill on my uncle's farm. When you got to the bottom of the hill you had to cut a hard right. If you didn't you would run off into the creek which was about a six foot drop. To the left was a barbed wire fence. It could be an interesting ride.
Dont worry about thr deer Matt, Austin will getem for ya.
😀
Yep, that's exactly what I said; What a Bummer.
