At first I was annoyed by Hikaru, but soon found her to be cute and innocent, with her clinginess even adding to her character. Even though Madoka is THE girl, Hikaru deserves all the love and attention from fans and Kasuga too.
She has end up by the annoying third wheel because the plot needed it. You know I feel sorry that in the end even in the second movie haven't found someone that make her finally forgot Kyosuke. Yusaku that loves her like a crazy end up by basically kicked out by the story, though I dislike Yusaku I would have rather see him still in the story at least to consular her instead of disappeared completely. Is a shame that Hikaru hasn't never find someone else...
@@francescocorrias9090 don't worry about her. They didn't need to pair the spares. She can easily get someone when she finds the right person. Shes a character who seems strong. In the manga she has strong friendships too

amazing video ! That's true, even though Madoka's the gal, Hikaru too had her moments ! She's a cheerful girl, at first I saw her a little annoying due to how much she gets in-between Kasuga and Madoka. But as their relationship progresses, and she actually tells Madoka she always knew 'bout her and Kasuga, it makes you realize that she's also kind-hearted and mature, at a certain extent. She doesn't immediately starts a drama with Madoka, but rather, plays along and makes her moves on Kasuga to win his heart over, I kinda' realize that's why she was always so obsessed with passing time with Kyosuke. She knew he had feelings for her best friend, yet she still wanted to be his girlfriend. In a way, it's just sad. Madoka's certainly the girl of anyone's dream, but I think that kinda' makes her out of reach for many. Hikaru on the other hand, she's got the simple life. She ain't a former gangster, has a decent family, dreams to be an actress, an easy-to-love girl ! She's childish, selfish and naive, but I think that's where the charm is. She gives off the opposite vibes of Madoka's mysterious & hard-to-get personality ! Just like you say, Hikaru's the perfect teenage romance.
I should also say that Hikaru is more refined in the anime. The manga's Hikaru is borderline stupid when it comes with her female sense. She only admit that she knew Madoka like Kyosuke in the movie. But I guess the Tennis Camp episode and Mushroom episode should made it painfully clear to her.
@junn4538 Because the plot Hikaru end up having to play the role of the third wheel and be the one who suffer. The love triangle last so long because of the 3 characters faults: Madoka's fear to hurt her friend and her capricious personality that haven't let herself to ask Kyosuke to make his choice before the Movie's events. Kyosuke fear to be rejected by Madoka inability to push away Hikaru and her attentions that he sometimes appreciated. Hikaru's rejection to face reality and perhaps the fear to lost both her friend and boyfriend.
@@orange_noodle yeah, in the Manga she has to be helped in discovered the truth, using Manami like that so out of the blue and make Hikaru discovered the situation and accept it in just two chapters was a rushed way to conclude the Manga. In the anime Hikaru was already aware of the truth but she has continue to act like Kyosuke's girlfriend and Madoka's best friend mostly because she was afraid to lost both of them, although we can criticize this behavior of hers I feel I have to justify her because at the end of the day she acted in a way not too different from Madoka's.

Maison Ikkoku is easily the GOAT of romcom anime/manga. Realistic, funny, heart wrenching and heartwarming all in one. Reading Maison Ikkoku has set a new standard for romcom manga/anime for me, and I don’t think anything will ever top the 80s vibe and Rumiko Takahashi’s storytelling of Maison Ikkoku. KOR is very enjoyable and influential, too. The icing on the cake is the super cute character design.
I love your channel! I grow up with Orange Road, and I learned to appreciate and understand it in my teenage years. Now that i am 30, I still believe this love story will be part of my life forever.
0:46 I just went through this frame by frame for the first time and... They actually kissed?! All this time I thought they just bumped into each other. And it was just Hikaru's imagination that thought they kissed... Damn. This changes everything.
Blessed maybe is a exaggeration considering that for be around Hikaru any boy would have to deal with Yusaku 😅😂. But honestly despite that I was happy that Kyosuke and Madoka end up together I can't deny the fact that Hikaru would have deserved Kyosuke more than Madoka...
I dont know about deserve. Madoka did a lot for both of them. Neither deserved it more. But kyosuke was always leaning madoka. She held back for hikaru to some extent.
I am not an expert in cel animation. I would guess that it is done with multiple exposures. Computers are no where powerful enough to create them. Digital cameras don't exist. The animator will have to get the exposure timing just right.
I just stated re-Watching KOR… now I’m in my 40s, I think Hikaru is a straightforward girl. If KOR was a 2024 anime, Hikaru would probably have her own spin-off/ending. Hikaru was definitely prettier / mature in Shin KOR, but I do wish Hikaru had a good ending too.
In the Shin KOR movie, the role of Hikaru and Madoka has essentially reversed. You can tell just by the way they dress. Kyosuke met Hikaru on top of the stairs. They hang out. They even spent the night together. In the end, Hikaru even gave up sleeping with Kyosuke because of Madoka. In a way, you can think of the Shin Movie as an apology to Hikaru after what happened in Movie 1.

That won't do! For Hikaru, Kyosuke's name is simply "Darling". And she use that word in almost every other sentences.😅
