An excellent tutorial, thank you. I like the way you show each point and step through them systematically. I also like how you explain the reason for the difference in the physical size of the batteries. .

Thank you, this has been a great help for me to determine that my (presumably new) battery is genuine. It's just not holding charge very well! 12 hours and already down a quarter.

I ordered a battery from ebay, and it came today. Everything you show here is what I got, except the shim. One thing I did do extra though, is to scan the QR code on my original battery, and came up with a listing from Amazon.com for $15. The code on the fake takes me to a search results not found page. The code on the ebay page, is the real one that takes me to Amazon. Thank you.

Another easy test is using a barcode scanner. Scan the barcode on the battery, if OEM it will show the model number of battery, if fake it shows the serial number. Another thing to look at is the solid white rectangular strip opposite of from the 3 gold contacts, solid white is OEM, if it's checkered it's fake.

HI, on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus battery I bought, I also noticed that the gold contacts on the fake were deeper set compared to the original, that was the only outwardly sign I noticed, also my batter should have had NFC in the battery, but on fake it did not only testing this with android beam can you tell, obviously the fake didn't hold the charge at all. thanks for sharing good video.

Would be great to know the difference in performance. Battery testers are not terribly expensive. I'm considering buying one that can test various types of batteries. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. It's helpful.

Hi Mate, Thanks a lot for sharing this information. It was very very very helpful. But Just wondering can we tell the buyer that we dismantle their battery and that's how we found it is fake? Doesn't it void any of their liabilities for the replacement? Because I bought some li-Ion batteries I know they are fake but just can't prove it. Thanks heaps.

I tore off the wrapper from the back like you did at the 8:15 minute mark. Would it be safe to wrap the wrapper back on, and stick it into my phone, even thought the wrapper is a bit crinkly now? There was some ripping of the square thing on the back that looks like those anti-theft devices stuck on merchandise that are magnetic or something that cause those gates to beep if a theif tries to walk through them. The one piece of thin copper ribbon that is at the top is still intact, so does that mean it'll still work? Is there a chance they'll leak or explode inside my phone?

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Here in Brazil we have some hesitation even with official retailers. I bought a battery from Amazon about 1year ago. I did the test and found that it is a legit one. Thanks for the info though. I will test the future ones. Even though I got a legit one the battery already needs to be replaced. Is that usually the time frame for replacing ?

people are jealous of british accent right ? anyways nice video .. so is there any way to check the battery with its serial number ?? Like you can check the phone easily there must be a way to check batteries as well ? Because I do not want to rip apart the battery paper/aluminium cover i have bought the phone as a gift. It looks very well made and details are high. Printing on the silver part of battery is with good dark colored ink. It says cell made in japan/assembled in china .. ALSO the writing is very organized and in order like we use the option (CTRL J) justify in MS WORD the printing on battery does reflect that its a good machine printing. The printing of the black part of battery will always have a slight dull white color printing not PURE bright white (which is fake). CLOSELY examining the battery black part you will see the paper is HQ one ! The paper on it on the top is very well adhered on the surface .. and four corners of battery are very well detailed i mean of course all four corners are plastic but u can tell straight away its not a cheap design and material and machining/moulding or what ever. These are things which i can see without ripping the battery outer cover .. but if you bought not as a gift for your own use then u can of course rip off the battery cover WHICH IS THE BEST WAY TO CONFIRM if battery is original. So great video buddy :)

Yup, I also just got my Ebay' full refund on 2 FAKE Samsung microSD 64gb cards. Put it this way, if any brand name products that have super low price on the web then it is likely they are 99.99% fake. So beware!
PS: Also there are many Ebay seller posting and boasting new cell phone made by unknown China companies that had a hell of a system specs such as quad core 2.3gb, octa core, long last battery life and so on, BEWARE of these also because what they claimed of their system are not all true. Before purchase these phones, do ask for the Antutu benchmark test and also other tests that would show their true system specs. Request and demand, this is the only way that you could protect yourself from the fraudulent.

You would think that the feedback of a Seller would show comments about fake batteries. Some Sellers that I know for sure are selling fakes have a high feedback percentage and very little indication in the comments about fake batteries. However, a few other Sellers have many comments about fake batteries. Ebay should monitor feedback comments for words such as "fake", "counterfeit", etc. When a Seller gets several comments in the feedback with those words, it should trigger an investigation by Ebay.

The Great Gig In The Sky You are 100% correct. Ebay doesn't care. I got that impression after seeing how many Sellers were selling fakes and several have been doing it for a long time. Since you have purchased batteries from many sellers, you'd probably agree with me that most sellers on Ebay are selling fake batteries.

Just checked my Galaxy note battery bought on UK ebay. The battery has no water lable and the outer lable is shiny Aluminum on the inside.
The seller has been removed from ebay. No dought they will be back under another guise. I would now recommend if you intend to buy from a none registered seller, message them and ask if the battery is possibly fake and let them know you will be checking if it a fake. See what reaction you get.
Are the batteries safe to use still? That's the question.

I live in Saigon, Vietnam. On June 13th 2015, I bought a counterfeit LG 3000mah battery for my LG G3 cell phone for $3.50 at a brick and mortar shop. I haven't peeled the sticker or tested to check it's authenticy. The performance is terrible. A full charge lasts me until 4pm. Just from common sense, I know it's fake. Just wanted to toss out that info.

Please could you show us a little better again, to refresh us now in 2016, about what is under the film of the 2 batteries, we has not seen well enough!!
Better if you peel off and attacks several times the label sheet, you know, so to see all around a little better than so, because at the moment it is not entirely clear ...
Are you perhaps able to do all this in no more than half an hour with your slow motion style, deep tecnical explanations at the same time, or we ask too much?

Hey man, I also have some observations on counterfeit batteries and the genuine ones. The counterfeit ones don't last much longer and plus, it overheats and the charging goes unstable. Its like my phone just powers off in 60 to 50℅ and when I charge, its 0% and after some few minutes I rubbed the counterfeit battery on some cloth and when I turn on my phone, the battery just goes 75%+ and it decreases every 1 min. And the genuine ones, they last longer. Nice Video tho. I dont trust the world anymore.

Hi thanks for this! I just brought a new battery for my samsung s3 from our local samsung service center i didnt believe its real coz it says made in china. Comparing it with my old batteries which has been with me for 2 years now and was the battery included when i bought my phone which says made in korea assembled in vietnam. I scratched both batteries and i slightly pulled off the covering of both batteries which showed me that their colors is the same as outside. But i didnt pulled everything out completely coz im afraid i wont be able to put it back. But both have black plastics inside. But i dont think samsung service centers will be selling fake batteries though. I wish not.

I just bought from amazon one, label difference: old one made in china finished in vietnam, new one: made in Korea, finished in China. I checked the inside for both batteries: old one white, new shiny ''mirrorish''. New one on top: charge pins on right hand side, left hand side is a small metal strip. Old one: same as my new one but on the left hand side, no metal small strip. I did not removed the entire stickers on both batteries, because i dont know if it is harmful or what so ever. damn, just found out I bought a fake samsung battery for my galaxy S II. After peeling the label, 1400mah was written as opposed to the standard 1650mah which is also written on the label.

unfortunately the made in Japan and not made in china is not a sign but all the rest is ... samsung uses chinese manufacturers

at least it don't record every thing off your phone .. safer ,, size don't matter .. its not a liquid lead batter // meaning the bigger the stronger "lol"
