Very well done! Clear speaking with no hesitation. Thorough and well-planned. Easy to understand. I sincerely hope you do more of these videos. You saved me a fortune.
If it’s too good to be true it is. I just had 2 EN-EL15s identified by Nikon as counterfeit. They were very good copies only identified by duplicate serial numbers. Unfortunately I got them secondhand so cannot identify the original supplier. Perhaps they came with a grey market camera.
Can you tell me where to purchase an EN-EL14? Nikon told me to get the EN-EL15 and provided the link but then after I bought it for my Dad's Christmas present and it doesn't even fit in the camera, Best Buy said they won't take it back after 15 days because it's Nikon's mess. Now I have an expensive, new useless battery that they won't even exchange for the right one and every store on the Nikon page is OUT OF STOCK. His camera came with classes too and then the store closed up locally so he never got those either. Not impressed with Best Buy, Nikon or any ability to find authentic Nikon batteries. Can you please help direct me? Thanks so much! Learned a lot from your video and at least I know the 15 IS authentic.
Please tell us what tempted you to buy this battery in spite of the fact that the seller did not listed the item in Ebay stating that it is a 'Genuine Battery?'
I just got one that was slightly swollen and stuck inside my D3400. Fortunately I managed to shake it out. Refunding that shit tomorrow. Never buying cheap Nikon batteries again.
I bought a 'Nikon OEM genuine' battery only to find it did not fit my camera, it was slightly too big. On calling Nikon UK I was advised that it was counterfeit. They want the battery back before they will refund but I want to take it to trading standards and have them prosecuted.
Nice comparison between 2 fake batteries. Would've been better if both were also compared to a REAL Nikon En-EL14 side-by-side. But, no. YOUSOBUSTED didn't do that. He only narrated the salient signs to watch out for.
That's nonsense. I had a cheaper version for my Canon and it's lasted just as long as my genuine battery. I don't just mean time charged per use, but also the years that I had them. If Nikon, Canon etc didn't charge such an extortionate amount then people wouldn't buy the none genuine versions.
Dang! I bought a EN EL 15 for my d7200 and it lasts about 400 shots instead of 1200+ as it is supposed to be. Holy cow! Do not waste your money on these fake batteries; it does not worth even paying 50% for them (that is what the sellers do when you tell them, and I thought I was doing a good deal getting it for about 10 usd). I was wrong!
Half the performance of a genuine battery at twice the price of a generic. What about safety? I don't trust these enough to leave them unattended in a charger.
YOUSOBUSTED The performance gets worse each time you use the battery. There will come a time when the battery will die immediately after you recharge it (you won't be able to take a single picture with it, even at full charge). It has a SIGNIFICANTLY shorter life span than the original product. I also incurred in fake batteries, having bought them after they were advertised as "genuine" on eBay. They weren't genuine, and apart from not lasting as long as the genuine product (taking less pictures before the battery is depleted), its life span gets shortened each time you recharge it -- VERY quickly! Three (3) months of use is more than enough to render your battery barely usable anymore. It's just not worth it. The extra money you disburse on an authentic battery more than makes up for whatever you think you may have lost for not purchasing that fake. Not to mention safety concerns regarding the fraudulent items, as you put it so well. Thanks for the video. Very informative. Unlike other people said, sometimes you DO have the chance to verify what you're getting before you buy.
+Haggen Kennedy Thanks for the post. So true on capacity of the battery. I purchased a fake Canon battery and capacity was like half. Another generic battery that I purchased actually turned out to be better without the fraud.
Just buy a random battery brand like fosman. Instead of wasting money trying to get the real nikon brand battery. There cheaper, sometimes more effective (probably not) but it does its jobs atleast.

Great camera work. Great discussion and investigative work. Very helpful.
Old video but STILL very relevant .
Well done. Great detailed explanation. U should have our own TV show! Thanks!

Great video, thank you for the information!

Ah, but how do you tell BEFORE you buy that you will be getting a genuine battery? This video is excellent for finding out after the event
at least you can demand your money back and GET IT like I did.
thanks for the support

the seller DID list them as genuine NIKON batteries
would be interesting to see what cells look like inside.
Doesn't ebay kick them off after they get a complaint about fraudulent batteries? I mean that's illegal yes?

funny thing is original or fake both are made in the same place. either way profit comes to same country

thanks for sharing
even though they might be fake, they work with your camera?
It will most likely work but it's not gonna last that long

Thanks a lot, I would have bought counterfeit one.
The hell with the printing and cardboard quality. How about performance?
Get to the point.
Paying $100 for original battery is insane.

YOUSOBUSTED i agree with you.some people never understand.you cannot make them understand :)

I'm not putting a cheap azz battery in my good camera. Thanks for the heads up!
The fakes usually don't get the rubbish bin correct.
It sold around $35+ on Amazon, BH Photo, Adorama...and you paid only $25, I would of raise the red flag right away but thanks for the video anyway.
if I haven't seen this
Well fuck.. I bought the fake one -_-'
