This is SUCH an underrated song.
HotR may not be Disney's best film, but it's one of my favorites, especially its soundtrack.

I agree with you, it's one of my favorites too.
It may not be Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, but its charming, happy and fun like Song of the South, Melody Time, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan, as if made to be a tribute to Disney films from the 40s and 50s.

This movie deserves a television series like they did with their other movies, so we can see more backstory and character development, even get answers to what the film did not have time to explain. If Fievel's American Tails and Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa can tell a good story as a television series, surely HOTR can.

@@Disneymore Yeah, its sad that people don't see the heart and charm this movie has like Walt's earlier films from the 1940s and 50s did. Even if some of them didn't become the very best, they still provided family fun and heart.

He only RE-arranged it, from essentially the same melody and most of the harmony as the original, "Way Out West", using different, more authentically Western instruments.

@@portagee66 You're a liar. Menken wrote the song himself and there is no other real original version out there. I did research and nothing is stolen so you can't prove anything stolen.

god this movie this is the movie that convinced me I was a cowboy when I was 7 oh my god
It convinced me to be a cow, country, bluegrass, and Wild West fanatic, having better respect for those things, especially for cows to know they are not some "dumb animal".

Most the songs are decent but the villain song really affects the sound track cuz of how bad it is

Exactly! It wasnt the best, but it was still a good film. It deserved more than a 50 in the ratings. It had such a great soundtrack.

Wonderful! Disney love to fill their movies with songs but they usually fall flat. The reason I love Home on the Range is the singing because for once - just for once - Disney hired singers who can actually sing. Sing it kd lang! Superb!

If nothing else, Disney still plays this movie's soundtrack (including this song) in Western Land in Magic Kingdom. I think it really adds to the atmosphere and shows that, even when Alan Menkin isn't trying too hard, he still makes some really nice music :)
