I would like to give a shoutout to the little guy. The one who arrived much earlier and set up the mic stand and well the whole stage really. This makes for a better show than watching the "star" trying to set up the amp and the drummer setting up the drums. It could take all night. But you never see the little guy's name in lights, do you?
Together with Crazy Little Thing this was their most successful song in the USA. The bass riff struck a cord with the black community as well, (re)igniting their popularity in the USA. Michael Jackson was a fan of Queen and told them to do something people can dance to. Along came John Deacon with his now famous bass riff and when Michael heard the finished song he urged them to put it out as a single. It was a departure from their usual sound, so it wasn't a given to do that as you might think looking back. Chic said that this song wouldn't have come to pass if John Deacon hadn't hanged out with them. It does have some resemblance to the Good Times bass riff. They were friends however and it may have inspired him. Who is to say.
