Jason, you are such a genuine guy! I recall watching your video when you told a story about being so broke that you didn't had a single guitar, and now you are showing guitar with the price tag of 2k bucks! And you kept a smile on the face! Kudos, your metal heart is stronger then any obstacle on your life path!
Brings back memories of selling my old schecter hellraiser and all my pedals, sucks when our situation messes with our hobbies. Still haven't replaced that quality of guitar or thkse pedals, but I'm re-finding my love for guitar
Ah yes! I agree that this is the sweet spot! After this price point, the ideology of "diminishing returns" comes heavily into play. Can you spend more and get more? Absolutely yes, but on the same note "more" becomes a very loosely applied term depending on what one might consider valuable.
I love how genuinely happy you are about jamming and your day in general. I just bought a Charvell tele w/ active pickups for METAL and grunge sound specifically. Its the so cal pro mod 24 fret black on black w/ toasted maple fretboard. Its super rad!!! Teles rock metal no prob!!!
I got the AmPro II tele just like the one in this video with single coils and I don’t understand what voodoo fender did but it CHUGS. I also have a strat and that just sounds too thin.
Great video and used to only play "metal" guitars. Went to a local music store and saw a Jaguar guitar. Started playing it and loved the tone! I'm thinking about getting it next year.
I'm pleased with Jackson JS32 for low cost guitars (under US $400), CDX and WRX ($500 - $800). The fit, finish and quality for the money are very good. The necks have been very good. So far the Jackson branded FR have been working great, the only downside is loss of clarity at full guitar volume with the stock Jackson high output pickups. I plan to get another JS32 as a project guitar; if it's a good one, I plan to refinish the body, replace the electronics and upgrade the FR, try to keep the total cost around $1K or less...a personal custom at a reasonable cost. Cheers!
I like jackson, but it has to have the reversed headstock for me, also the colour scheme ...i like a nice colour. I have had a telecaster for the longest time, it sounds amazing on clean sounds and the bluesy grungie sounds but with heavy distortion, the singles dont work. These days, theres somany midrange instruments that are amazing, schecter, ltd, ibanez, solar, chapman.....
Never played a guitar with one. I don't use the whammy that much and don't really care to play in different tunings. I keep things simple, but that's just me
The SM on the Kramer stands for "Stage Master".. IIRC it's a 24.75 scale 24 fret guitar .. It's a reissue I do believe.. The SG also was equipped with P90s or 100s. Good job finding diverse guitars that wouldn't normally be associated with Metal Jason \m/
The fender doesn't quite have the aggressive sound like the Jackson and the others..but on the contrary..iron maiden mainly used fender guitars on all of there music.and it sounds magic...🤘🏻
As a diehard tele player idk why theres not more metal guitarist out there not using a telecaster? Its like a swiss army knife of axes. I guess its the look of the guitar bc it doesnt scream metal and I know bands are not just about sound but overall look.
I've got Charvel San Dimas (USA made for about 1k) and Jackson Soloist SL2H (which I bought for about 1,8k NEW) both with JB in bridge. It is a cool pickup for solos and 80's pop metal but it is too muddy for anything harder. I wonder why they put that pickup on the Jackson! Tone difference is huge. While the Charvel sounds nice, the Jackson really sings.
@@jasonstallworth they are both my favourite guitars out of every guitar, I'm looking at a LTD ec-1000T or a jackson pro series dinky dk2 or chapman ml2 pro. That's why I was watching your vid 🤘🤘
Hi Jason, nice video, and the other ones with lower budgets as well. I love the Gibson's sound..awesome! Could you tell me please which is the song you played with the Gibson? Thanks a lot and keep doing stuff like this 🤘🏻
Dude, I'm literally just making this stuff as I go! lol. I'll sometimes plays one of my own songs but that particular song was just what happened to come out at the time!

That’s a super great line up 👍👍 About 1 month ago I bought a used Epiphone Les Paul Classic Worn for $450 (MSRP $659) didn’t come in a Gibson case but bought a used one for $100 so the neck won’t get damaged. I want to save up later on possibly next year for a $1000+ for a really good guitar. These guitars would be good candidates for sure. Great video and kudos on the multiple camera angles! You put a lot of work in this video and it is much appreciated 🙏🙏 Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Happy New Year 🥳
Has anyone owned a Schecter in this price point? Ive heard good things about them and I think that the look great. Pickups good for 80s metal/hard rock like Gun n’ Roses or Aerosmith?
I've never owned a Schecter and haven't played one for an extended time. For pickups, look into the pickups that are in Epiphones and Les Pauls and I think that will get you close
My first guitar was a Yamaha Pacifica Tele, and I still have it 26 years later because it’s an excellent guitar. The problem with a lot of metal player’s thinking is that you need specifically a “metal guitar”. I play almost exclusively on traditional guitars now because they were originally designed to sound good at all gain levels, so they work for me. I’ve owned five or six metal-specific guitars, and I’ve never enjoyed them as much as traditional guitars. Good job on these videos, I’ve enjoyed them.
I love the way you record your videos. I like to hear what the gear sounds like actually just playing it like I would actually play it. I like to play my stuff live not record it on my computer or whatever. If I want to record stuff I would just find some free recording stuff online. If I were into recording I would probably only have one decent guitar and thats it, I would not even have an amp.
I'm a bit late to the party on this video, but I'd have to go with the SG. Though the other guitars look and sound great, I think the stock pickups are too hot. Single notes got muddled in the distortion. The SG on the other hand IMO was better able to bring out those single notes with a real sense of clarity. In any event, thanks for the post. Great video.
I am absolutely crazy about Jacksons! I'm a little surprised that there weren't any Ibanezes among your picks, but hey to each his own. If you ever want to try a guitar company not associated with metal that makes great metal guitars, check out the Paul Reed Smith Singlecut.
