- Lifeguard Andrew Reid has detailed his horrific account of the stabbing incident inside Bondi Junction Westfield which has resulted in multiple fatalities.
“A guy came up to us from Myer and said, ‘Mate, everyone has got to leave, there’s people getting stabbed’,” he told Sky News Australia.
“Then we heard two gunshots but they were around the corner and as I looked down on level four, there was a lady down there, just, there was so much blood and I was like, ‘Oh I’ve got to go help’.
“The roller door was shut down there too and I said to the guy, mate you’ve got to let me out, I have got go and help.
“I went around and there was just all so much blood and I went to help … we all just started working on this girl and looking for stab wounds.
“There was just victims sort of just every 50 metres and there was at least four.”

He killed a man, and there's footage of him chasing a man before giving up. I could be wrong but I think he's someone who disproportionately killed women because he went after the most vulnerable rather than a misogynist per se.

not many people really understand what a lifeguard's job is and all I can say is....pool lifeguards are basically the pool police. beach lifeguards are basically police of the beach, lifeguards just don't arrest people, arresting people is a policeman's job. THIS RIGHT HERE IS WHAT FIRST AID PEOPLE INCLUDING LIFEGUARDS ARE TRAINED TO DO!

So far. 5 women, 1 man killled & the offender was shot by a sole female police office. Sadly, I understand that one of the females who died was the 39 yr old mother of the baby. The 9mth old is undergoing surgery at present.. There are also others victims at hospitals presently, so full number of victims has not yet been confirmed. The Police think they know the man but awaiting confirmation. They said they did not believe it to be a terrorist if it is the person they believe it is. If that is so, we can only imagine that the offender is someone with a mental illness.

The offender if formally identified was known to the police we just heard and he was a 41 year old male. He seems to have mainly targeted females. Nearly all the victims were female including the baby and one male.

I had been in that zone of Westfield for over an hour and had been sitting at the cafe on the foot bridge and also outside Chanel just minutes before the guy started stabbing people. Absolutely shocked by it all and feel very lucky to have left to go to the car park when I did. Condolences to all of the victims and their families. This sort of stuff just shouldn’t happen. I will always be even more aware of my surroundings now when out in public
