Multiple fresh and shiny upgrades for my Focus RS!
The gold part of this latest Garage Update is once again using gold reflective heat tape from Funk Motorsport!
In the past, I wrapped the 2 sections of Mountune crossover pipe which have nice round geometry on the undersides so was the ideal place to put the tape in terms of both ease of application as well as reflecting heat as these areas faced the hot rising heat being above where exhaust and turbo are located.
I also thought that this gave a very cool and unique look to the Mountune intake and the Focus RS engine bay so it is a logical progression to give the same treatment to the under side of the Mountune intake manifold - so that is exactly what I do!
Other items in this video are all nice and shiny new!
One aspect is replacing a bunch of nuts and bolts with super strong, lightweight, corrosion resistant and super nice looking titanium equivalents. I do this in multiple places dotted throughout the session!
I do this mainly to remove rust as opposed to weight reduction but maybe over time doing this will add up!
One item for a future install is a new set of 15mm wheel spacers from SiCo Developments. These are a fantastic quality spacer, as good as I have seen, and are priced really well so I love them!
This will be my third spacer set from SiCo and all have been excellent! This set is to go with my Revo RVO19 wheels that will be going back on the car soon, now with added stance!
The last part of this garage update is getting a new Airtec rear diff cooler installed.
I did previously have one on my MK3 Ford Focus RS but it sustained some damage so I removed it with a view to fixing it and getting it refinished but it became clear that it would have been uneconomic to do so as they are not very expensive so I ended up just buying a new one.
One area of the original version that I didn't like was with the paint job - it wasn't great, very thin single stage very prone to flaking off with the smallest break, much like the Ford rear brake dust shields that I replaced a while back.
I resolve this in the same way that I did with the Ford dust shields - by adding multiple layers of 2K clear coat from Touch Up Paint Factory!
This gives the benefit of adding the layers of durability that are missing while also giving a beautiful upgraded depth of gloss!
I then finished it off with proper ceramic coating in the form of Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light before installation.
I do also switch out some of the installation hardware for some replacement titanium nuts and also the old spacers - all is shown in the video!

Hi Adam, great video as always. Have you considered water methanol injection to keep your intake temperatures down? I'm started running an AEM system on my RS due to high charge temps coming from heat soak. It makes a massive difference in keeping these temps down, plus gives an octane boost to also reduce knocking. I'm in Australia so our ambient temps get up over 30C pretty regularly in summer, with heat soak I have seen charge temps over 60C. With the WMI, I have been able to keep these down to close to, and sometimes cooler than, ambient based on the COBB AP readings. I have now had my MSD400 tune updated again to take advantage of it and wow, it's made my RS a total rocket with basically all stock intake and exhaust, with a greatly reduced risk of knock and lspi.
