    Easter and Human Dignity
This was the 25th gathering of the series (28.03.24). Teachings on Easter and Human Dignity by Bishop William Shomali and Reverend Stewart Gillan.
Bishop William Shomali was born in Beit Sahour (Palestine) in 1950. Ordained priest in 1972, he served 8 years in Jordan. He has held many leadership positions, including General Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem, Rector of the Seminary in Beit Jala, Chancellor, and Auxiliary Bishop. Bishop Shomali is the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies in Jordan and member of the pontifical council for interreligious dialogue with Islam. He has received several honors, including his nomination by the French president as knight of the Legion d’honneur and as Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary.
Reverend Stewart Gillan's first ministry was in South Africa, where he served as parish Minster in Alexandra township and as a researcher with the Commission of the Restitution of Land Rights. Upon his return to Toronto, he became the Executive Director of the Churches' Council on Theological Education in Canada. Of his call to become a Mission Partner in Jerusalem, Stewart writes: "I have felt called to the ministry of the Church in Israel and Palestine since my first visit in October 2007 with the Middle East Committee of the then World Mission Council."
Followed by Christian, Jewish, and Muslim prayers by Rev Richard Sewell, Hanna Yaffe, and Prof Mohammed Dajani.
The Elijah Interfaith Institute is a multinational organization dedicated to fostering peace between the world’s diverse faith communities through interfaith dialogue, education, research and dissemination. Our unique programming generates interfaith dialogue at the highest levels, bringing together world religious leaders and renowned scholars the world over, through research projects, public conferences and community-based initiatives.
Praying Together in Jerusalem is a movement whose participants believe in the power of side-by-side prayer to bring friendship, respect and, ultimately, peace between people of all faiths.
Gatherings have been held since October 2015. Originally, once a month in Jerusalem but now, in a time of crisis, there are weekly on-line gatherings.
In addition to our regular gatherings, PTIJ organizes occasional events to provide opportunities for people of diverse faiths to meet, pray alongside each other and share wisdom from their various sacred texts.
PTIJ emerged out of the Visioning Interfaith Activism in the Holy Land Conference held at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute in June of 2015. It was the initiative of Peta Jones Pellach & Fr. Russ McDougall, residents of Jerusalem. Eliyahu McLean became the third founding partner. The coordinator of the Visioning Interfaith Activism in the Holy Land Conference, Raanan Mallek, has continued in this capacity for Praying Together in Jerusalem since its inception. The movement has grown, and in addition to individuals, many organizations committed to interfaith dialogue and peace have given their support.
