I offered a grated carrot to my budgie and also a green chilli but they are not eating it. But when I give them glucose biscuit then they eat it fondly.

Hello. I have a prakeet. I've had it about two months now, and when I got it, I found it outside my house. By the way, I live in New York. Most of the time, he's very happy. He chirps when I talk, but I can't get him to go on my finger. Whenever I put my hand in his cage to try and get him to come to me, he shy's away. Just recently, I finally touched him on the belly in attempt to get him on my finger. However he bit me. Also to mention, a few hours earlier than this I notice that he bit through an entire step on his ladder. Is there anyway anybody can help?

Hi Rex8681. First of all, I am really surprised you found a parakeet outside in New York! That is pretty extraordinary. I would suggest you watch some of my videos on taming and getting a bird to perch, as they may help you get him to step up (and be more relaxed around you). It is not unusual for keets to chew a lot, especially if they are in the mood to breed. You can try getting him a Bird Kabob, so that he has something more appropriate to gnaw on. They also really enjoy cuttle bones/mineral blocks and will go through them pretty quickly!

Thank you for the very kind words Christie! It can absolutely work for your Tiels and Love Bird. As long as you find a treat that is really rewarding for them, it should go fairly quickly. I just checked, and there are videos here on UA-cam of target training for both types of birds you have...just search target training cockatiels/target training lovebird!

What's the point of the clicker?

it lets them know they did a good job and that they are going to get a treat

LPS Starlight TV they see the clicker as a reward, instead of always giving treats. when they hear the click it's like they're being rewarded

So I have a parakeet to is pretty tame, he is kind of (not aggressive) but gets annoyed at me easily. He isn't very affectionate and doesn't really look at me as anything more than a person who sometimes has good food. I have just started clicker training a couple days ago.. Anyway, I am getting another parakeet and I want to have her bond with me for a while before putting them together. Do you find bonding and training easier if they are apart? I'm afraid that they will bond and his training will revert. Thanks xxx
