Ammonium hydroxide in food is much different then ammonium hydroxide itself. Ammonium hydroxide is basically just a bacteria stabilizer. If you eat cheese, dary products, or even things from backeries you would have ingested it. If it is heated up it evaporates out, which is why cheese goes bad quicker after heating it up. Unless you or your bird are eating straight ammonium hydroxide, you wont really be in any danger, please update this video as roudbush is actually a lot better than other products on the market (besides the soy of course)
@@mimisbirdhouse Thank you for pinning! Roudbush is actually great for picky eaters, especially for conures, they eat it up! Mines about to go through puberty and I'm going to do half pellets instead of 100 percent chop for convenience and this actually made me want to get TOPS because I heard soy can cause biting and eratic behavior that's hard to reverse during and after puberty. Was going to go with roudbush again because I had my budgie on it, though thankfully I saw this video video going through the ingredients!
I used birdtricks pellets and then Tops and I’m pretty sure they’re literally the same pellets in different packaging! My birb can’t seem to tell the difference!
Just wanted to add in really quick, Roudybush does use ammonia hydroxide but it isn’t bad. It’s actually a very common ingredient in people foods and medicines, as well as parrot. It’s one of the best PH stabilizers known if I remember correctly. Roudybush is actually one of the most researched and complete pellets out there. Totally understand that it’s your opinion! Just wanted to let you know. :)
@@mimisbirdhouse Of course! And you probably didn’t, just like any chemical, if you ingest a lot of it by itself, it will cause you harm. But the amount that parrots and us are getting when we eat it, is so minuscule that it won’t hurt at all.
Yea, i use roudybush, and my birds love it more. Of course i did a lot of research before buying. Most of the ingredients are well studied in labs and beneficial for the bird. Yet again, it depends with you and your bird.
Zupreem rainbow is just so easy to find, and affordable. I remember buying it at a farm store in bulk in 2000 before there was much else in the way of pellets (owners had parrots and supplied the zoo I think).
According to my vet, who does a lot of their own testing/research in aus, vetafarm has higher levels of vitamin d which is not ideal for long lived birds or birds with pre-existing kidney disease. They recommend hagen tropican lifetime granules or harrisons lifetime granules just based on their own research. Its always important to consult your avian vet, ingredient lists are not a good indication of nutritional value or suitability for your bird. Theyre not always commprehensive enough as they dont face the same scrutiny/regulations as human food. eg in the case of vetafarm, it just lists vit d but not the concentration etc. Something to be aware of
I've had good luck with Harrison's HIGH POTENCY PEPPER (Fine). Rio will actually go for it even if it's mixed with other stuff. He is also pretty good with Roudybush Daily Maintenance Mini Bird Food. And I also have Top's Pellets, which he will eat but only if there is nothing else on his plate. As an aside, I'm glad to see you like Snoopy and Woodstock.
At first i used ( i forgot the name ) pellets but now i use zupreem natural not the fruit or veggie flavour, since we don't have many options available and i use some colored ones for treats as they love them so much 😅 and now they don't even touch seeds 😌 execpt for millets as treat 😊 I wanted to buy some nutri berries for them but i can't find even one brand 😢 Also what brand u use for pellets 🤔
@@mimisbirdhouse ohh! U know if i start to buy harrisons, my bank account will blast 😬 they are sooooo expensive here, even ZuPreem are expensive but i can manage that 🫠 we don't even have proper stores for parrots so i have to order everything and the options are very limited 🥲
My conures Sunny and Sprout love the tops pellets, which I’m glad they like them bc I hear about a lot of birds refusing to eat anything healthy 😭😂 also happy new year to you and the birds!
Happy New year and great video. In my case i was using Hagen hari but they have peanuts, plus bruno was not eating them, then I was buying TOP's cold processed pellets, but they are not always in stock, plus Bruno was eating everything I gave him, no matter how much I gave him, he was eating all of it in a few minutes because he loves it so much, but there is a problem....that was impossible to dose those, it was impossible to leave him with a full bowl because he was emptying it in 5 minutes. So I had to start buying ZuPreem, but one that doesn't have any colorants. Sadly it has some sugar :/ But it is the best one I can get except for TOP's which Bruno is eating too much of, like really, really too much and too quickly :/ So I am changing, buying ZuPreem (Natural not colored one) and TOP's and switching. When it comes to ZuPreem he is eating it just fine, not too much, but enough. Plus he can eat as many veggies as I will bring him :D Harrisson's I've considered too, although we doesn't have too many of their products - there is literally only one online pet shop I can order pellets from, pet shops doesn't have them or have them in incredible prices. It is changing though.
@@mimisbirdhouse Yea I've tried to serve smaller, bigger, when it comes to TOP's he eats everything no matter how much I give him, then has empty bowl - ok excluding the dust.
@@mimisbirdhouse Also about Roudybush, wow I haven't notice the Ammonia before! Any yea it is very recommended but nah I won't buy it after learning that one thing :D Harrison's we have all have peanuts sadly :/ Honestly only 3 options for me at all are Harrison, TOP's and ZuPreem. Additionally we also have Versele laga but oh man, those are something else, they are made out of: peanuts, unknown grains, has added sugar so...mostly just fat and sugar. And also I really don't know what is with the Tropican (hagenHarri) pellets, I tasted it, it was ok, but bruno - as I mentioned - ate it as if it was punishment not food. Maybe you are right, maybe it is the flavoring?
@@mimisbirdhouse I have a question, we also have pellets called Wagner's which is technically cold pressed, it has good stuff like alfalfa but it also have soy and peanuts, would you avoid it or give it a try? I am mostly concerned about peanuts :/
Hi! What do you think about these 3 brands: Zupreem, NutriBird and Mazuri. In my place it's so hard to find good pellets, and I'm kinda in a dilemma between these 3.
If I bought two babyish quacker parrots from the same cage, what would be the best scenario assuming they get along in their new enviorment (my home). Should I get one boy, one girl? I think that would make them happier but I don't want them to mate. Also, since those two would be seperated from the rest of the birds in the cage, would that cause behavioral problems or anything extreme?
Mmmm im not certain I understand your questions so let me try. If they were already in the same cage or grew up together they should be fine. Id still keep my eyes on them regardless as going to new home can be stressful. You can have of the same gender it doesnt have to be opposite genders. I have two girls ☺️ It would not cause any behavioural problems, the only reason it would ever cause behavioural problems is when people separate couples or older bonded birds
Am I the only one who practically falls backwards from the rancid smell of pellets when I open the package? I returned a package once to the store, but every time I purchase pellets (mostly Zupreem) they smell so very rancid after a short while....
Thats not good! Its good to keep them sealed in a cool place, if they smell bad throw them out and keep them dry as if they get wet they will grow mold over time
psittacus has a micro one that is almost powder! I use it for my picky cockatiel, just put some veggies and mix the micro psitaccus and they will just end up eating it since it sticks to the veggies. Kinda like a condiment in human food
Zupreem is great! I use them too, millets should be treats and you should add some fresh vegetable chop and a few fresh fruits to their diet as well ☺️
@@mimisbirdhouse Since we have not yet seen pellet feed as the main meal, I give half a tablespoon of yellow millet and half a tablespoon of zupreem. I'm trying to reduce yellow millet until I switch to pellet food, but it's a bit difficult, they want yellow millet, I support it with vegetables, fruits and grains.😌☺️
If you r bird is a plucker or is constantly doing highly repetitive movements, you might want to stay away from the human grade chemical vitamins ex. Floic acid instead of folate. Tops is the only one I could find. 😢
