Awesome reworking and brilliant arrangement of a memorable Porcupine Tree song with soulful vocals from Ninet Tayeb & fiery sax work from Theo Travis. Best track of the entire EP
This is immense and now complete given its context is now complete with the addition of a female vocal. Ninet nails it. Live it was very moving. She is amazing
+Mark Churchouse that "Squeak" she makes, destroys the song IMO... everything else is superb, but then you hear that squeak again and again and really it's so damn annoying... anyway... do you know if Theo Travis is in the live lineup or who plays the Sax live?... please tell me it isnt just a synth.... cheers :)
+Ricardo Obeso Yes, I've started hearing the squeak as well now and it's getting on my nerves too! Presumably SW likes it, though, as it could have easily been edited out - I guess we'll just have to live with it...
Great version of a classical PT song. I love the new jazzy adaptation and the excellent work of Ninet's voice. It really rocks... I can't stop listening to it :)
This is a beautiful rendition.. The ambient bit at 5:24 is stunning, as is the bass & percussion during the preceding keyboard / sax solo section. I'm in love all over again. And, to boot, the man covered his own (previous) band. That's just great.
I love this new version. The great sax solo from the other one is the thing i will miss the most, though. However it is kind of a good thing that this version does not have that solo anymore, because when they used to play the old version live, I couldn't help feeling that it lacked something, because usually they didn't play the sax in concert. Now with this version I can truly and completely enjoy this song live.
Steve sos... mmhh... sos... eso sos... Impecable, increíble, admirable, de qué dimensión venis? O sos una especie en extinción? Amo todo lo que hacés. Simplemente, gracias.
First there is no more PT,get over it,I'm just glad that SW is writing and performing,He always surrounds himself with the very best of musicians, his live shows sound incredible, and as far as Ninet's squeak I think it shows the emotion she brings to the song, she nailed it live and loved every second
A light snow is falling on London All sign of the living has gone The last train pulls into the station And no one gets off and no one gets on Don't hate me I'm not special like you I'm tired and I'm so alone One light burns in a window It guides all the shadows below Inside the ghost of a parting And nothing is left, just the cigarette smoke Don't hate me I'm not special like you I'm tired and I'm so alone Don't fight me I know you'll never care Can I call you on the telephone, now and then? Don't hate me I'm not special like you I'm tired and I'm so alone Don't fight me I know you'll never care Can I call you on the telephone, now and then?
The different feel is probably because of Nick Beggs use of a pick and his tone, it's more aggressive and less "jazzy" than Colin's playing, which I also agree suited the song better,
+Maria Diaz Bands don't have owners, PT is a quartet. PT was Wilson band when he playe'd solo on "Mussolini" EP. PT is not Wilson band from 3-rd album. Pink Floyd is Gilmour band?
+Maria Diaz I don't blame him :) i'm just wondering why he put "Don't hate me" on his solo album :) Solo projects of other PT members? Gustibus non disputantum est ;)
I saw him for two days ago live. Each of you can say you miss PT, I do also, but when you are that creative like SW, we'll be hearing from you. No, he's not God or Jesus! He's humble!!
Honestly this version is awesome in term of the vocalists, and the drumming is pretty solid. I fucking HATE that the replaced the flute bit a really happy sounding electric keyboard. Completely fucks the immersion for me. It's a very somber, slow, winter vibe, and then BOOM, a super chipper keyboard solo? Come on man
This is why I miss porcupine tree. Steven Wilson is a genius no doubt, but the music they created together was just perfect. Nothing he does alone compares to what they did together, but then that's just my opinion.
+Aellgi There's some excellent chops throughout this version, but I feel like Gavin kept the song moving better. The original is just more in the pocket.
+Rock Barn Records Chris Maitland did the drums on the original. I felt the song benefited from a less busy approach first time round, allowed more space for the song to breathe.
+fuzzylogiceire Gavin has been PT's drummer for so long, I forgot about Maitland, (who was also excellent). I believe I was thinking of The Arriving Somewhere DVD performance.
Is it just me or the solo (8:30) of this version starts EXACTLY like the melody of the vocal parts of Lips of Ashes? Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/_Lu9S-o_efc/v-deo.html
I suppose everybody is saying that they prefer the PT version because they heard it first. I have heard PT's version only few days ago and i think Steven's solo version is far superior. Generally i think Steven solo is making much better music than within PT. Don't Hate Me, PT fans :)
+George David if you really knew steven wilson you'd know he is not as much a progressive artist. ok for ancestral but lissen significant other or whatever it just concerns a part of his style. stop taking yourself for a fucking genius and accept that music is subjective and yes he is a great artist and not the only one
+George David Why are you here if you don't think this is great music? Are you sure insecure about your tastes that you need to come here and show how ignorant you are to everybody else ? Wow you've listened to Pink Floyd and Rush ? You are so cool. Totally unique. A real snowflake. Get the fuck out already.
Well i am and a lot of times , its these people who can read and write music who can't jam to simple classic rock riffs. Ability to feel music is more important than being able to read and write music.
I just always hate the comments 'yeah it's good but i like the original one more'. for goodness sake people, if you like that version more go and listen to that version and stop being such a crybaby.
Good to hear another singer! Steve is great but he has an average voice IMO, rather weak. It would be interesting to hear Beggs singing some songs: he has a higher pitch and more power.
No offense but the Porcupine Tree version is much much better! (Not saying this is not good) There's something different about it! That Colin Edwin bass during solo and the trumpets in the middle. All of those made it sound so good I could listen to it all day long!
Hi. 🙂 Please, let us pray together. Dear God who art in heaven hallow be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in Jesus Christ's name we pray amen. ❤ 🙏
I really don't understand why he re-recorded this song. Its almost exactly the same with a squeaky woman singing the chorus. There's some subtle changes but in my opinion, but the original is just fine if not better. Perhaps he's trying to get his newer audience into the PT stuff.
I saw him for two days ago live. Each of you can say you miss PT, I do also, but when you are that creative like SW, we'll be hearing from you. No, he's not God or Jesus! He's humble!!
The way the sax solo comes in reminds of me of Us and Them
I think it's kind of overdone. I prefer how quiet and somber the sax was in the original.
I heard Steven Wilson for the first time in my life and i find everything amazing.voice, instruments, performence ...
Ninet's powerful soulful Vocals light this song up.
Wonderful! Steven Wilson surprises me every song, every album! great musical proposal! Thanks.
I love her vocals so much!!!!!
Awesome reworking and brilliant arrangement of a memorable Porcupine Tree song with soulful vocals from Ninet Tayeb & fiery sax work from Theo Travis. Best track of the entire EP
just bought it on a amazon download, based on being reminded by this post.. The internet is not wholly a waste for the artist.
...........quel sax...........favoloso!!!!
This is immense and now complete given its context is now complete with the addition of a female vocal. Ninet nails it. Live it was very moving. She is amazing
+Mark Churchouse Yep, Ninet was utterly awesome live!
+RickTransit It's a vocal technique, it's there on purpose obviously...And I find it quite endearing, really. Gives it a different feel altogether.
Okay now i can hear the squeak too and its killing me from the inside... Otherwise 5/5!
Great version of a classical PT song. I love the new jazzy adaptation and the excellent work of Ninet's voice. It really rocks... I can't stop listening to it :)
Steven have found endless fountain of proge, god bless it!
So many versions of this one and they are all wonderful!
This is a beautiful rendition.. The ambient bit at 5:24 is stunning, as is the bass & percussion during the preceding keyboard / sax solo section. I'm in love all over again. And, to boot, the man covered his own (previous) band. That's just great.
dat sax solo tho
That's why we all are here I think 😂
@@Albert-Freeman the whole track is magic but hey, this solo is a MASTERPIECE

There is a sax solo so I don't understand...
@@rhayader8169 aren’t those keys?
Today I listened to this song and for the first time it made me cry my eyes out...
Absolutely great song. Love the bass part in the impro part!!!!!
8:41 solo is so sweet !
fucking goosebumps
Best version!!!
Steve sos... mmhh... sos... eso sos... Impecable, increíble, admirable, de qué dimensión venis? O sos una especie en extinción? Amo todo lo que hacés. Simplemente, gracias.
OMG this song makes me cry every time I listen to it. And I love this song. It's just so heavy for me 😢
Can I call you on the telephone, now and then?
love this

Great version, but yup, PT is still strongly missed.
So, ahem... Guess what!
@@user-kx1xm5mb9i yes!!!
I love Ninet's vocal!
Sublime!!
Esto es magnífico!!!
Very nice. See you in NYC.
Brilliant.

Best version
I do like this version more. Can't tell why, but i'm glad a great song like this has had a second life.
Addictive version, I wish the keyboard solo was longer
Cool version, but I miss Colin Edwin's juicy bass playing during the solo. It's still good in this version, just not the same bouncy feel...
Absolutely agree. Really nice version, however Gavin and Edwin are truly missed!
Actually, I miss the sax and flute part in the Stupid Dream version, though I agree that the new version also sounds wonderful.
@Avanish pr: Chris Maitland was the drummer in "Stupid dream" album; maybe you intended some live version of the song?
Pier Paolo Adamo Ah yes! I was referring to a live version. You are right
The different feel is probably because of Nick Beggs use of a pick and his tone, it's more aggressive and less "jazzy" than Colin's playing, which I also agree suited the song better,
the cover of the 2 girls sitting on the park bench reminds me of the twins of the overlook hotel in shinning
+anne matthew It reminds me of the sisters used in the "Perfect Life" music video by Wilson
wow this was so strong
Beautiful..
and ninet's vocal is beatufiul too..
Incredible, as always. The newest term for perfection is called ''Steven Wilson''
If you like version, look up the version he plays in Rotterdam and buckle up.
Best version of an already killer song
Una obra de arte no se puede mejorar
Don't hate me... for killing porcupine tree? ;)
very very metaphorical
+Bartek Orlicz Spot on! :)
Hibernating or money making... In next Wilson album he will play disco remix of Russia on ice, and it will be hibernating issue ;)
+Maria Diaz what do you mean its his band
+Maria Diaz
Bands don't have owners, PT is a quartet. PT was Wilson band when he playe'd solo on "Mussolini" EP.
PT is not Wilson band from 3-rd album.
Pink Floyd is Gilmour band?
+Maria Diaz

The middle section when the sax kicks in reminds me of Gong. I prefer this version...great atmosphere.
Sax solo is the best part!
FANTASTIC VERSION!!!screw off to the haters!!!
Joseph Bruno Just because fans may prefer the Porcupine Tree version certainly doesn't make them "haters(!!!)"
Wow. Theo Travis....
3:13 wow
totaly awsuom
I liked the live version of the current tour more, with SW doing all the vocal parts himself.
The middle part sound like Gong. :)
Porcupine Tree 🎧👍
I miss all the musicians from PT. But I like the Steven Version too. His line up is not so constant. At PT it was different. But Ninet is amazing.
This is good and there's nothing wrong with it, but it just doesn't move me like the original.
Indeed! The original is special...
COME AT ME BRO
I saw him for two days ago live. Each of you can say you miss PT, I do also, but when you are that creative like SW, we'll be hearing from you. No, he's not God or Jesus! He's humble!!
Haven't got into SW since the breakup of PT but I have to say this is outstanding...
Come on man
sax or gtfo..
srsly tho. I keep looking for that sax solo on his live performances, even covers here on youtube. Mr. Wilson, please?
I wonder if the bass line was also written by SW or did Edwin come up with it ?? :-/
nice, but I prefer the original version of this song.
@@PureHoney_ASMR See what you did there...
this one is absolutely beautiful with Ninet voice.

Spandan Madan true af
Wrong af
Is Gavin playing drums for this song cuz It sounds so much like him?
No, it's Craig Blundell.
New to the Steven Wilson bandwagon. Love the sound of these songs... but does something go weirdly wrong at the 9 minute mark?
So fucking good 😐😐😐
Anyone know who is drumming on this? It's remarkably tasteful
Another drummer i will keep my eye on. Cheers!

WHO THE FUCK DISLIKES THIS
only stupid people.
Maybe this is a pre-tour performance captured during rehearsals. I like it as an alt take on the song no need to pick apart Ninet. Have some respect!!

Great cover but not as wintry or haunting as the original in my opinion
Such critics. As a musician for over 40 years. Learn to read and write music and then voice a real opinion.
ab: Arrogance = thinking you need to be a musician to know anything about music

I hope she's doing ok. She's got a squeaky toy stuck in her throat..
mmh, no. I prefer the original & other live versions w/ SW alone... his voice is the essence of the song (her voice is not bad but not needed...)
ma hada sa2alik ya shlekke
original is better
steven pooped all over his works by doing this
Good to hear another singer! Steve is great but he has an average voice IMO, rather weak. It would be interesting to hear Beggs singing some songs: he has a higher pitch and more power.
I did not enjoy Ninet singing this song. I love Ninet in other songs by Steven.
Ok, Craig blundell you're a great drummer but there was no need overdoing some parts.
Funnily enough, I think Craig overdoes things less than Gavin.
No offense but the Porcupine Tree version is much much better! (Not saying this is not good) There's something different about it! That Colin Edwin bass during solo and the trumpets in the middle. All of those made it sound so good I could listen to it all day long!
