A body is washed up on a Norfolk beach He was a friend that I could not reach He thought I was cold but I understand But for the grace of God goes another man And I may just waste away from doing nothing But you're a martyr for even less A choirboy is buried on the moors Where we used to go dreaming when we were bored So some kids are best left to fend for themselves And others were born to stack shelves And I may just waste away from doing nothing But you're a martyr for even less
Piano lessons was my first which is the next song in the album after even less. I remember listening to Piano Lessons for over a year and thinking, hmm why don't I just see what they're about and the rest is history. Funnily enough after almost 13+ years now I've only heard Even Less NOW.
I've always loved the unique melodies in this song, since back to my first listen in 2005. I learned of this band through a coworker at a factory I worked at. One day, the songs he was listening to were so cool, I was like, "what band is that?" Then, just to my luck, the band visited my hometown for a concert, during their promotional tour for the then-upcoming "Deadwing" album. They played a lot from the "In Absentia" album as well, my favorite album of theirs. As awesome as these folks are on record, their performance live was even more exceptional. Especially "Mellotron Scratch", and how they actually used such an instrument in the live song to record and then layer their vocals on top of each other. I feel lucky to have gotten to see them during that era.
The original 14 minutes version is from the ‘Recordings’ album by Porcupine Tree. That album is just a set of songs which never fit in any album but all of them are beautiful as well.
Even less .To byl mój pierwszy kontakt z Wilsonem i P.T. kompletnie ich nie znałem ale natychmiast pokochałem! To był 2000rok. A w lutym jadę z żoną na koncert To the bone do Zabrza. Im happy!:))
All what comes from UK is just brilliant and unique .. they should have a genius factory there to produce such incredible music in different genre .. just name it and you’ll always find a British band or name there. Best music comes from British way of thinking !

How you could get from "But you're a martyr for even less" to "But I'm a martyr to even less" is beyond me. Looks like it's a sport on youtube to post wrong lyrics.
@@armorvil Since the 90s, Steven Wilson has for an unknown reason changed that lyric into what the original commenter posted. He always sings it this way live - therefore these lyrics are in all likelihood lifted from a live performance.
Thanks so much for replying to me about that because i haven't listened to the buzzer in months now and used to do it every evening! I have to listen again now :D
+Joshua Packbier You used to listen to the buzzer every evening? But you mean the album recording or the station itself? I find the buzzr and number stations absolutely creepy fascinating, but I couldn't come to terms with listening to it every evening... It's stuff of nightmares.
Who are the 19 who dislike this masterpiece. Words were later update so it was not so critical of the boy that took his life (you are a martyr for even less ?). Now the lyrics don't make much sense. Just my take.
So I saw these guys last night because my brothers and I got my dad tickets but mom didn't want to come. My dad has been playing this band and at first its average at best. But then I see them live and then listen to this song because its the one I remember the most because of the riff. Anyway call me crazy but to me it sounds like if you took Tool and Pink Floyd and mixed both or maybe a few other bands in a blender. I seriously hear a mix of Tool and Pink Floyd.
Some says it's about getting lost in system and social normality. But listening to the demos and the extended version on "Recordings", i think it's about more than that. I mean, "fuck you and your book to" is plain simple. And this Song is basically the nonmention answer to what happened few months before: Neal Morse going Christian.
arte0021 What you're hearing are secret incripted messages used for intelligence purposes, which were broadcast on shortwave radios. Look up "numbers stations" on Wikipedia. It's pretty interesting stuff.
Those "numbers" at the end of the song are an English rendition of the Spanish Cuban government "Numbers Stations" that can be heard in the middle of the night, most nights, on the 25 meter band of shortwave radio which send encrypted coded messages to spy operatives throughout North America and the world.
Mister Hogan, if you're still around and still into this song these 7 years later, I hope you are aware that there exists a full, 15 minute unabridged version of this song. In my opinion, the definitive version, the missing lyrics complete the themes of the song and the ending minutes are among the prettiest moments ever by this band.
One of the most underrated bands of all time.
By whom? Name names.
Underrated? Nonsense!
They're highly rated. What are you talking about???
Don't listen as much these days but this band changed my life in some ways.
I thought i was alone but this is what i experienced too..
You are not, there's plenty of us...as I see it...and now we are able to enjoy their music live 🫣
😢
Not only your life but also mine❤️

I love how this song blends prog, hard rock, folk, alternative and shoegazer.
this is the first song I've ever listened from Porcupine Tree, and it will always have a special place in my heart

Truly one of my favorite Porcupines. This track has EVERYTHING.

I pity on those who haven't heard this masterpiece in their entire lifetime.
Porcupine Tree, where are you ? I want you back on Tour.
There you go...wish granted
Saw them in Chicago last week!
One of the best bands ever!!
That massive riff...
+Beggar Wall Hell Yeah!

First time of listening this masterpiece. Goosebumps all over again ❤️
Not only is this song amazing it introduced me to numbers stations
For some reason I always loved the numbers bit at the end. Goes into piano lessons .
7 minutes aren't enough for this GENIALITY!
There is actually a longest version of this song that is 14 minutes long. Look it up!
The original 14 minutes version is from the ‘Recordings’ album by Porcupine Tree. That album is just a set of songs which never fit in any album but all of them are beautiful as well.
Master mind steven Wilson...England's little secret porcupine tree...incredible band..
I think Chris Maitland was perfect for this era of music.
Haunting lyrics.

Nobody is born cool, except people who put lyrics in comment on a music UA-cam video. Of course

Amazing....
This opens what is, imho the best breakup album of all time.
The end guitar is amazing
Most epic song of all time.
Brilliant!
Another fantastic song about living on the water, (Lake Michigan).
The numbers spelt at 6:12 are sampled from a video called number stations the conet project. Boards of canada sampled them too.
is it the sample on the Boards Of Canada song "Aquarius"?
@@aleinn2378 I don't think so

Who is here for the numbers station recording?
+Joshua Packbier I'm here because I am a fan of both Porcupine Tree and The Conet Project.

if you are ready to die, you will miss all the other concerts of PT
"ahahaha, haha"
To me the riff sounds a little bit to "Rezo por vos" From charly garcia, I DONT KNOW WHY. anyway this song is fucking great
It's all dreams anyway.listen on

For six minutes a TREMENDOUS song, strangely robbed of its vitality by all those numbers at its anticlimactic end.
