They are going to do every single chapter from every single book. One chapter every week (on another channel) Will take several years to complete all the books. That 198 chapters. Meaning it will take almost 4 years. Although on this channel looks like they are putting a few episodes combined into one longer episode on this channel.

1:28:00 I have a theory about the green mist coming from Harry's vault. I believe it was the remnants of a Finite Incantatem spell. In book two, Snape uses this spell during the dueling club and it's described as "A haze of greenish smoke was hovering over the scene." Maybe when the door is opened with Harry's key, the spell triggers, wiping out defensive spells on the vault, and leaving a green mist or haze.

Exactly, it's like several people trying to decide where to eat and everyone has a different taste. They all know the obvious choice when someone just rhetorically says, "There's only one place we're going to find all those choices, The Food Court," which is the local place where everyone goes to satisfy multiple appetites. I never thought it odd when Mrs Weasley says, "Platform 9 and three quarters this way" and also "There's only one place we're going to find all of this, Diagon Alley." It's rhetorical conversation.

Even if Dumbledore didn't put her up to it, the timing is interesting considering she also knows she has to hide the platform from the muggles. It's possible someone from the school told her to be on the lookout for him, maybe even Hagrid or McGonagall.

    Replying from the UK
HUMBUG: A hard, boiled sweet, usually striped.
MOLESKIN: a type of tight woven cotton fabric. (Like brushed cotton but heaver and tighter.) Very soft, like tye velveteen pelt of a mole. Usually worn by country folk, as it's unlikely to snag as might a looser weaved cloth.
WHELK: Marge's eating of a whelk is an odd one. Unlike escargot they're not fine dining, and you'd be more likely to find them in a working class Cokney pub, or lower class seaside resort. They're usually eaten covered in salt and vinegar, and like snails are rubbery. Also like snails they need something strong to make then palatable.
    Excellent work gents!

Less of a "what if" but I always wished Hermione had also had a sister who was just a muggle but rather than being jealous, she was super supportive. Because in many ways Hermione mirrors Lily while also being her opposite in other ways and a supportive sister would have been in line both with the mirror and the opposite. Kinda feels like it would have been a nice touch. Doesn't affect the story at all but it's there

I remember a fanfiction in which someone mentioned the unfairness of the trace rule and the person said "Well, the spirit of the law is that a minor shouldn't be doing magic without adult Wizarding supervision, in case they have an accident and someone needs to fix a failed spell"
... and honestly it makes sense. It's still kind of unfair, but... it does make sense. Besides, if you force the Trace onto every minor, Wizarding kids wouldn't be able to be homeschooled
Also, about the ice cream, it could be just a little white lie Hagrid said to surprise Harry with the ice cream! I absolutely can picure Hagrid being like "hehehe I'm gonna secretly buy this kid all the treats"

The fact that Narcissa got Draco his wand meant that Draco's wand doesn't need to meet the wizard to lend loyalty.

In defense of Neville: I have always thought he had some brain damage dating from the attack on his parents. Assuming they were attacked at home, perhaps one of the Death Eaters did something to him, or a well-meaning relative blurred his memory afterwards to protect him from the knowledge and overdid it.

I don’t think so, because Neville is for sure more talented than given credit for. In Herbology, he excels at it, so no comment, Potions, Snape is just the worst, so he isn’t great at (like every other Gryffindor), and the rest of the classes that require wands, he has an excuse because he used his Fathers wand, (the wand chooses the wizard) so he is physically limited with what he can do

I think Bill or Charlie might have been the first to take Scabbers to Hogwarts, going off the timeline. It's been 10 years since Scabbers first became a house pet of the Weasleys (12 years based on conversations between characters in Prisoner of Azkaban but that's not for another 2 years, so 12 - 2 equals 10), which back then would be one year before the start of the player's first year in Hogwarts Mystery (I'll treat HM as if it took place in an alternate timeline because there was no mention of Cursed Vaults in the original timeline), but that would have still been 5 years before Percy becomes a Hogwarts student. This would be Molly's 17th year going to King's Cross (I think 10th with her kids), so Ron is about 10 years younger than Bill. So Ron would have been 1 year old, Fred and George would have been 3, Percy would have been 5, Charlie would have been 10, and Bill would have been 12 when they first took in Scabbers.

Draco's wand is so perfect for the character who he had the potential to become (conflicted, outside suited for dark magic, core from one of the purest creatures) but I can imagine it going kind of like when I was buying glasses as a kid. While I was getting my eye exam, my mom was looking at frames, picked out a few that I would try, and one of them would usually fit, but I was still free to look at others. So maybe Narcissa would pick out a few that would fit someone of Draco's nature and social standing, at least to have a starting point

Couple of 9 and 3/4 ideas.
maybe the platform number does change, just not every year, certainly not in the time that Harry is there; maybe it happens in response to muggles discovering the platform or just so they don't get suspicious.
If the platform number truly does not change then Petunia should have known the number from when Lilly went. So maybe Vernon isn't so much "there isn't no platform 9 and 3/4" but more "You are the magical one, you figure out how to get to it"

A thought this podcast provoked: what would have happened if Hagrid had successfully turned Dudley into a pig?
Would he have undone it before they left for Diagon Alley or would he have just left Dudley like that and Dumbledore might've come to fix it before Dudley started school?
Hagrid also did that (in the books) because Vernon made him angry. Dudley didn't do anything. He was just standing there and suddenly would've been a pig. Seems mean and out of character for Hagrid to do that to an 11 yr old that did nothing to him.

Just because I thought it was great that Ben learned a scientific fact about the earth while researching Harry Potter facts here is a very short explanation for those who also didn't know that the earth has a bigger diameter at the equator than from pole to pole. It's because the earth rotates around an axis vertical to the equator and the centrifugal force makes the earth a little bit more "flat" at the poles.

Just looked up peppermint humbugs and learned something new as well. According to Wikipedia, humbugs are a British/Irish kind of sweets, usually flavored with peppermint. I'm not a fan of peppermint, though, to say the least. Maybe, that's why I never noticed any peppermint humbugs during my stays in London. Anyway, on the subject of learning new things: thank you for the in-depth analysis of the HP books and pointing out so many minute details I've overlooked so far!

One thing to point out about the Dursley’s leaving Harry at Kings Cross is that petunia knew about the platform from Lily and having dropped her off there when they were kids. So likely it was just the messing with Harry and seeing you do that you can get there if you really tried, but she didn’t care if he did or not.

In chapter 4 when Hagrid asked the Dursleys if they could make him some tea or if they had something stronger like alcohol. To me that was him trying to give them a chance to be hospitable and show him, their guest, even if he just came unannounced some hospitality. But he must have known that they wouldn’t do that so he then wanted to show not just Harry but also the Dursleys that he’s hospitable and that he’s capable of entertaining his guests even when it’s unexpected.

🙋‍♀️🍁🇨🇦🍁 Hey guys I'm in my 50's and I grew up with "humbugs" and yes they are the "pillow" cut candy's also known as square, that are red & white stripped... & peppermint flavoured. I'm not sure if it's because I have a strong mixed British heritage or if it was just a common penny candy back in the 70's and so on... I also grew up with barely candy as well which has become a rare thing to find now outside of British import shops
Anyway humbugs taste somewhat like a sweeter & milder candy cane if that helps you any...
Barely candy has a distinct flavour that's hard to describe... it's basically a very mild sweet taste... I know that isn't really helpful but if you ever try one yourself you'll understand 🤭 ...
I just came across this series early this morning and I'm debating on binging as many episodes as possible before I fall asleep... 🤭 we'll see

That is exactly what those introductions are like. They describe a few important accomlishments and then end with a couple of superfluous details.

    Hi!
There are lots of things I’ve been thinking listening to you…
First, about all the Dumbledore and Hagrid thing with the wand, If Dumbledore autorized Hagrid to use magic to find Harry or if he fixed his wand, obviously the Ministery doesn’t know, and maybe Dumbledore would get in big problems.
I think when JK was writing the Philosopher Stone she hadn’t think throughout the muggles thing, because in this book there are lots of good wizards talking about how awful muggles are… McGonagall at the beginning, Hagrid with “the biggest muggles”, Ron saying they have a muggle uncle but they don’t talk about him… and then she added the part about how only evil wizzards discriminate.
It’s true, in the spanish translation Trevor was a tortoise at the beginning and then they changed it! I read it in spanish (I’m from Chile) and I always though that was a translation mistake.
    Thanks for doing this!!!

So Moody could see perfectly in the dark as well as the light, reveal traps and secrets and even see invisibility

2:06:52 I think you guys might be forgetting that Petunia knows about Platform 9 3/4 - iirc we see her and her family saying Goodbye to Lily in Snape's memories. Petunia knows that the platform's there. She won't do anything to assist Harry in finding it, but she's not completely abandoning him; she's doing the barest of barest minimums. Not sure if the author wrote the part with this in mind, though.
