I love this! This was a great ad and I plan to buy a new mattress. But. Can you tell me how I can enjoy sleep in my bed more often when my toddler (2 years) always wants me in his bed? I don't get good sleep in his bed and I would love to be a well-rested mama that my family likes to be around. ❤
If you stock up on things, when they are on sale, you will eventually be able to shop only for things on sale, and never pay full price for any grocery item, ever again. When I don't know what to make for dinner, I whip out a deck of cards, where I have written on each card, a different dish, and I make another family member draw 3 cards at random, then pick whichever one appeals to us the most. And this works because I always have everything we need to make everything in the deck.
My meal planning - I write down 4 or 5 meals on Sunday. It meals I have all the ingredients for and stuff that needs used. I fix them in no set order - only by what’s going on that day and what time I have. We eat leftovers or do overs on the days I don’t cook. I keep a well stocked pantry, shop sales, & scratch & dent stores. I only shop every couple weeks & usually for fresh items like milk & produce. I budget $200 a month for fresh food and pantry stock-up. We have a garden, keep chickens for eggs, and buy ½ a beef once a year. I think we do ok.
We stopped spending money on cereals. Oh my what a savings. No junk food. No bottled water. Have a water purifier now. So many changes for the good. Nutrient dense foods. My fibromyalgia pain reduced significantly. 😊
I only buy cold cereal when it is the loss leader - deep savings. Then it becomes a major treat when I break out a box for a meal. The standard breakfast is either oatmeal or breakfast burritos assembled at home. Honestly - the cold cereal most often ends up as a dinner on those days I have nothing left!
@@wjb-wi6dt I understand. We have oatmeal twice a week. I make banana pancakes with ground oatmeal and my DH doesn’t even know it! 😂 I add extra proteins to the breakfast. Then I make a 9x13 breakfast casserole. I have been keeping a log of our breakfasts and try to keep it varied. There’s also cream of wheat. I make our bread and will make French toast.
Christine is dealing with snow while I’m here in Texas complaining that I have to wear a sweatshirt because it’s only gonna be 65 degrees today. 😂 But 65 degrees here means soup! Guess I’ll be making a homemade soup tonight in honor of Christine!
Also in Texas and thinking, we can’t eat soup. That will make me hot! lol. Today was nice with the high 50s though. 😊. I still have like 50 tomatoes on my plants!
My pantry is at least 3 times the size of yours. We each have our own idea what our safety net needs to be. We were without income and work for nearly 2 years due to illness, injury and job loss. Our pantry sustained us and we never had to worry about food costs. I still keep a large working pantry and probably shop 1 time a month. Sometimes 2. I love your content and channel!!
I’m in Canada just north of you and we got a huge dump of snow today too! I made your chicken and rice soup tonight and oh my gosh it’s so good! My 7month old LOVED it. I did my budget today hoping to be able to stay at home after my maternity leave finishes and I’ve been so overwhelmed but I’ve been watching you for months and I’m ready to get serious and save! Thank you for everything you do ❤ You’re helping a new mom stay at home with her little girl.
I'm working on my food waste. Most weeks I generate about 1 grocery store bag's worth of trash and very little of it is food. it's just me. I grew up reverse meal planning for a big family. I still cook large meals, and eat the leftovers for a few days. I am so grateful I love to cook. My sister hates it and it is pricier to feed her family.
@@ellenb2498 also grew up in large family. my mother made due. she was an awesome baker tho..so we had home made everything. my sister grew up a baker i grew up loving cooking
Great video. This is how I was brought up (70’s & 80’s) and what I do now. It’s not difficult, it’s just life. I think Americans are used to take out, delivery, ridiculous “planning”. When I need inspiration, I just remember what mom did 🤷🏼♀️
I meal plan by organizing my freezers and writing down what I have, noting any meal ideas that come to mind. going through my fridge and writing down items that need to be used ASAP. Those 2 lists become our meal plan. Works great!
The " 70% off" retail and reverse meal planning is SOOOO true! I have been shopping like this for years and have saved so much money for our family. It let our family have me be a stay at home mom for 12 years (and counting), also fully pay off our mortgage, and paid for vehicles. It can be DONE....try it, you will be surprised.
Started reverse meal planning when my husband would buy things on super-duper sale like whole chickens, or corned beef after St. Patrick's Day. I didn't know how to cook any of that, but I learned real quick!
My favorite musical was The Sound of Music. I was about 4 years old. Seeing the big word "Intermission" on the screen made me cry. Then Mom said it meant there would be more movie coming, so I was okay. When I was 11 my grandma took me to a local theatre for Auntie Mame. I will never forget Joanne Worley in the title role when she made her entrance coming down the aisle in a giant champagne glass. Now THAT was theatre!
One of your best, Christine! I have cooked this way for over 40 years and now know it actually has a cool name--whaddayaknow?! You are a breath of fresh air; happy Thanksgiving to you and your wonderful family!
Fun fact while doing my grocery shopping tonight at a Kroger chain. The lady behind me was shocked and said that’s awesome when the clerk told me My savings was 120.00. I stocked up on proteins, baking goods everything on sale. I’ve have doing digital coupons well before I found your channel. And I love that I can feed my family of 7 inexpensively. Love the reverse meal planning that’s what our grandparents did.
Other than fresh fruits and vegetables, I only buy stuff and stock up on sale items. I’ve had some significant health problems, so we always keep easy meals on hand like pizza, soup, sandwich fixings, breaded chicken strips, etc. on hand for they days I’m sick or too weak to cook. It helps out a lot.
I love your take on mostly buying items on sale. I’ve been implementing your strategy for months and it’s been saving us so much money! (Especially Costco, I almost buy everything on sale). I do it a little bit differently. I still plan out my dinners for the week (I don’t schedule which dinner were having what day) but I stock up on sale items through out the month and I make my meal plan around what I have on hand and a few things that I have to buy at the store every week. If I don’t have a meal plan for the week, it stresses me out. I’m a planner and it keeps me sane 😅.
So glad to hear that meal planning isn't the end all be all. It has never worked for me, I've always relied on exactly what you described (stocked pantry, freezing discounted items and basic cooking skills). I mainly shop at a discount grocery store so I never know what I'll find since their inventory changes all the time. Favorite musical is Sound of Music. I think it was the first movie I ever saw in a theater. I was 4 or 5 at the time and that opening scene in the Alps really impressed me.
Anastasia is my absolute favorite musical. It’s also my families. I feel like you have to know the history behind it to really get the full meaning of the story. So if you’re not a history buff and you don’t know what it’s based on I guess it’s not for you. That’s what makes musical theater awesome there’s something for everyone.
As Warren Buffet once said, (paraphrasing) ‘Only buy what you know you are going to eat and buy in bulk whenever possible.’ Adding to this I will recommend buying basic ingredients, including those spices you like. It is a big plus if they are healthy for you as well.
been here for years. you've taught me how to save thousands because of your videos. Thank you for sharing!! have a wonderful holiday and birthday!!! ha I remember the 10k challenge because you reached 10k subscribers ;)
I hate meal planning and following recipes! I’ve always just bought what’s on sale or basic ingredients and went from there. I might change my mind several times a day deciding what to cook for supper.
I been menu planning for 30 years now I have not had your problem,. I plan for a whole months, because I wasnt rich enough for a stocked pantry when I was young and now I dont have enough space for more then 2 months. So I found out a way that worked , made sure there was quick meal that I could when needed. Just follow the 7 day method, every weekday has it own protein , yes you can have mince/ ground meat twice a week and then 4 recipe per week day and now I have month and I can do so that everything used up.
I also have been meal planning for what seems like a gazillion years. Works fabulously and I continue to do it even though it’s just my husband and I now. I do, however, look and see what I have in the house, make a menu from that, fill in the gaps, and buy what’s needed. Works great for me.
I do what works for me also and that is meal planning (we grocery shop every 2-3 weeks) and sometimes making enough to freeze for leftovers. Freezer meals are great for quick meals when I don’t have time (or the ambition) to cook. I do buy stuff I don’t need (yet) if it’s on sale but I also try not to totally destroy the grocery budget every 2 weeks by trying to get what I need and also everything that’s on sale but, if the grid goes down and we can’t go to the store, we’ll be good for a month or 2. We don’t have the luxury of a pantry or even a lot of cabinets in the kitchen so I may have shelf stable food stashed in ALMOST every room.😂
I’ve always done reverse meal planning, before it was even called that. Between that and couponing, I figure I’ve saved enough money that it paid for my house (over 32 years).
Happy Birthday, Christine! I saw Arsenic and Old Lace years ago at our local Swift Creek Mill Playhouse theater and loved it. The playhouse also did Little Shop of Horrors, which was fantastic.
Fiddler on the roof is awesome, and Anastasia is one of my favorite movies. I never saw it live on stage anywhere. I also love the Sound of Music. Be safe with snow and enjoy that birthday gift!🎉
Agree! Once I “accidentally” watched the whole thing (perhaps my 10th time) after coming upon the first few minutes while channel surfing. Just found out they attempted a stage version that last only 3 days on Broadway.
another great video. No snow in Philly yet, or rain since late August,,,,,ugh. We are in a drought situation! My favorite musical has to be Funny Girl...a classic!
I meal plan sort of. It works for me. Anyway, I pantry and freezer shop, then right down what meals I have 100 percent of the meals for. I include crockpot meals, sheet pan meals, an Italian dish, and the standbys like meatloaf or Mac and cheese with “a meat” and “a vegetable”. I don’t schedule a day for meals because we’re busy people and sometimes I have to work nights 😫. My grocery list is what I have 50 percent of the ingredients for, what’s on sale, and fresh stuff like milk. Any un used ingredients go to next months meal “plan”
Good video!! I always get reminders on how to tweak my shopping and cooking habits, which are quite good if I do say so! I'm a theater gal myself, and I have not seen Anastasia. I likely won't! Your Cats comment made me gasp! I am not a fan of Cats, but we all love the 1 great song. My favorite is Into the Woods! I played the Witch a number of years ago in my community theater group. I adore the lyrics to the songs, so many life lessons. A close second is The Sound of Music. I saw the movie when I was in 3rd grade or so, and it was a magical. I've done the show 3 times. In my younger days I went after the Maria role, didn't get it, was cast as Sister Margaretta, the one who is nice. The next 2 times I asked to play Sis M. So much fun, easy costume with no changes, and the nun's chorus is beautiful. Thanks again for all you do!!!
I have 2 favorite musicals. Fiddler on the Roof and West Side Story. And I've been cooking out of bare shelves since I was 15, maybe younger. Learned it from my mom.
loved the tips! I would add leftovers to the mix...either purposely make a bigger batch of something to have leftovers during the week, or have a day (or two) where you don't cook anything and eat up the leftovers that have accumulated up to that point (this is also a good strategy for the night before trash gets taken! clean out the fridge and take care of dinner at the same time!) 😊
Thanks to you, I started shopping at Smiths (Kroger) and really understanding how to utilize deals and how to buy ahead a little at a time. Thank you! ❤
I’m absolutely with you! In general if it’s ain’t on sale I don’t buy it (unless it’s critical). I also make my own breads. I used a bread maker for years but my broke so I started using my Kitchen Aid. Also just getting into no knead artisan loaves. The recipe is use is very cool. It is enough for 4 small loves and keeps in the fridge for 9 days. When you need a fresh loaf, you pull the dough out, form a loaf, let it rise while the oven preheats. 1 hour to a fresh loaf from deciding you needed one. To your essentials for good tasting food I’d add fresh garlic. Even when we are travelling (we have a minivan camper) I don’t like to plan meals in advance. I see what I have and what inspires me. Adapted this loose approach when the kids were teenagers. Never knew who’d be around for dinner. Loved the video!
My daughter has performed in Fiddler and Into The Woods twice so those are two of my absolute favorites. I've seen Wicked and Phantom on Broadway and they were both phenomenal. I must admit I've never seen Anastasia on stage but it doesn't appeal to me.
My husband played on Broadway for 20 years then we both played musicals in LA for another 15. i never GO to see them but I would choose my favourite on the basis of the music, and that would be West Side Story. (I just don't want to see the ending )
Does Muppets Christmas Carol count as a musical? 😅😂🤣🎄 I was blessed to be able to see Wicked on Broadway in NYC earlier this year… so good!! 💚 I also love 1776. My hubby’s favs are Les Miserables, Little Shop of Horrors, and Hadestown 😂
I once bought the soup cookbook "Is it soup yet?" by Dot Vartan for EVERYONE I knew. Was the best cookbook ever! The hamburger soup is fantastic, use ground sausage instead of burger and double the recipe, with 1/2 the Worcester sauce. Best soup ever! Happy Birthday! 🎂🎉🥳 I saw "Phantom of the Opera" at Her Majesty's theatre in London. My friend got Orchestra seating, knowing full well the Chandelier flies from the stage into the ceiling from the stage as it "came to life" also knowing full well it falls back to the Orchestra seating and back to the stage at the end of act 1. Well, this chandelier is about the size of a VW Bug...he nearly wet himself laughing as it plunged from the ceiling right over US! I almost soiled myself...lol
Happy birthday week! I guess it’s my birthday week too then. Camelot is my all time favorite musical. I’ve seen it multiple times on tv and three stage productions. All excellent.
Our family loves musicals and period movies too! We love Anastasia, some of my kids saw it on Broadway. Listen to the “ In my Dreams “ song a few times it might grow on you😆!
Bahahahah . LOVE the 6 servings LIES! BAHAHAHAHA Love you chick! You are so down to earth with real videos that make a difference! Love em and Happy Birthday week! 🎉❤❤
Happy Happy Birthday month Christine! 🎉🍫🍪 I've always cooked this way. Thanks for giving me a name for it! My Grandma was the best cook ever. What did she use for seasoning, you're right on, salt, pepper and butter. Thanks again, Christine, you're the best!
Spambot, hands down, was my favorite. The best part was taking someone with me who was dreading it and seeing them on the edge of their seat excitedly exclaiming about different parts of it.
I can't pick just one favorite musical. I mean, Hamilton obviously! But also, Six! Wicked is very high up there as well. I am seeing Funny Girl this weekend. Pretty excited about that one.
Bone in turkey breast and a whole bone in pork shoulder are each on sale at Albertsons for. 97 cents per pound, and 80/20 ground beef is $2.97 per pound. I just acquired a new chest freezer, and these bargains are going into it!
I'm going to add several productions I haven't seen listed here in addition to the great ones like Fiddler, Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain, and Phantom of the Opera. I also loved watching Hello Dolly! (fantastic!) and Mary Poppins (an outdoor theater that amazingly had Mary Poppins flying in). The Wizard of Oz. I would love to see My Fair Lady and The King & I. I've not seen Anastasia, but South Pacific is a no-go for me, based upon the movie at least. The songs are great, but oh sooo loooong! I must add honorable mention to Nutcracker -- not musical theatre, but definitely musical and definitely theatre. 😉 I now love watching that every year, and not just because my daughter performs in it, but because it is beautiful and fun! (And if that doesn't appeal to you, you might like Straight No Chaser's version "Nutcracker" -- the husband doesn't like being dragged there, either, but loves his wife so goes every year -- very funny!)
I have been inspired by your videos and now have a reasonable pantry. Getting an upright freezer at the end of the week in order to take advantage of meat sales and my frozen veg and fruit stockpile. Always love the tips and the humour.
Oklahoma! My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I'm old school. In it for the music. Happy Birthday Week Christine. Yes it is all about the spices. Gravy and steamed rice. lol
This isn't a stage musical, but rather a musical film: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is such a great film, and heartbreaking! The melody is in my head for days after watching it.
Our High School did a musical called Back to the 80’s. It was amazing! I’m a little biased, because my daughter and all her friends were in it, but it was worth it. The whole cast and crew did an awesome job.
Les Mis is absolutely my favorite musical! Then again I love CATS, Phantom, and Wicked too!! I think I just like them all!! I like the Anastaia cartoon so I'd probably like the musical!
Favorite musical is Hamilton. I know that's probably cringe, but I took my daughter to see it on Broadway a couple of years ago for her birthday so it has a special place in my heart.
Now that fall has FINALLY reached southeast Texas, I've gotten back into my soup routine. In the past week, I made potato and leek, sausage and pumpkin, and roasted cauliflower (today). Monday I'll make mercimek corbasi, which is a Turkish red lentil soup. Even my kids love that one!
Also better for you! My cat has a blood disorder that almost killed her. Packaged bone broth works better than the drugs the vet gave her lol. (Lazy cook here so yes I buy her packaged but I am sure making it yourself is far superior. 🎉
@ oh, I commented during the intro where I saw Pringles, bagels and cereal. I shoulda watched longer😂 They are super active and can burn all that off. She is so trim and cute!
I'm trying to make a monthly shopping list. Things like ground meat that can be used in tacos, spaghetti, etcetera. I keep pasta and rice around. I buy canned goods when they are on sale. I buy frozen on sale. My big items are cheese, bread, and fresh fruits and veggies. I am not sure if this is gonna work but I am hoping it will.
Love the birthday week idea, just need to sell the idea to my family 😊 Wicked is my favourite musical every time I see it I am flying on happiness. Enjoy your birthday week Christine 🎉
Wicked I’ve seen three times in theater and am SO excited to go see the movie… I’m hoping I love it just as much as the live performances I’ve been to.

Happy birthday 🎉🥳! Favourite musical is Sound of Music. Thanks for the great tips as always! Blessings 🙏🏽💖
Thanks!
I’ve always done reverse meal planning, before it was even called that. Between that and couponing, I figure I’ve saved enough money that it paid for my house (over 32 years).
Phantom of the Opera!
Happy Birthday, Christine! I saw Arsenic and Old Lace years ago at our local Swift Creek Mill Playhouse theater and loved it. The playhouse also did Little Shop of Horrors, which was fantastic.
My favorite musical hands down is West Side Story ❤ Happy Birthday 🥳
Fiddler on the roof is awesome, and Anastasia is one of my favorite movies. I never saw it live on stage anywhere. I also love the Sound of Music. Be safe with snow and enjoy that birthday gift!🎉
Never seen it in theater but Seven brides for seven brothers movie with Jane Powell a good lively watch for a snowy day. 😊
Funny Girl - absolutely! Well, the movie version is the way to go. Oh wait…..Sound of Music!
@@joannc147 loved that as well
The Music Man was always a favorite to watch with my grandpa.
I saw the music man for the first time at a local theatre, what a fun play!
I LOVE using these basic pantry staples to look for sales for food items to donate to the food bank!
Happy Birthday week!! 🎂we celebrate the MONTH of our birthday!!
😆 The next best thing to a Jane Austen production is Austenland with Keri Russell and Jennifer Coolidge. Good books too. 😁
I LOVE Austenland
loved the tips! I would add leftovers to the mix...either purposely make a bigger batch of something to have leftovers during the week, or have a day (or two) where you don't cook anything and eat up the leftovers that have accumulated up to that point (this is also a good strategy for the night before trash gets taken! clean out the fridge and take care of dinner at the same time!) 😊
Totally agree that reverse meal planning works! Also would love if you could share your soup recipes please ❤
Happy birthday Christine, my favorite musical is Oklahoma.
My daughter has performed in Fiddler and Into The Woods twice so those are two of my absolute favorites. I've seen Wicked and Phantom on Broadway and they were both phenomenal. I must admit I've never seen Anastasia on stage but it doesn't appeal to me.
I have always done a monthly restock of my pantry, fridge and freezer then reverse meal planned. It just always made sense.
My husband played on Broadway for 20 years then we both played musicals in LA for another 15. i never GO to see them but I would choose my favourite on the basis of the music, and that would be West Side Story. (I just don't want to see the ending )
Phantom of the Opera
Liked the end of the video when you said the chocolate bar was 6 servings. LOL.
You suggestions were really spot on. Thanks.
Happy Birthday!❤❤❤❤
Does Muppets Christmas Carol count as a musical? 😅😂🤣🎄
I was blessed to be able to see Wicked on Broadway in NYC earlier this year… so good!!
I’ve been cooking from my pantry for the last month. We’ve eaten some amazing meals!
Happy birthday week! I guess it’s my birthday week too then. Camelot is my all time favorite musical. I’ve seen it multiple times on tv and three stage productions. All excellent.
Love all of your content, and the new part with telling a story at the end is the best.
Our family loves musicals and period movies too! We love Anastasia, some of my kids saw it on Broadway. Listen to the “ In my Dreams “ song a few times it might grow on you😆!
Bahahahah . LOVE the 6 servings LIES! BAHAHAHAHA
Love you chick!
Happy Birthday! 🎉🎂 Enjoy your week and thanks for all your great recipes and tips!🎉🎈
Started making your easy no knead homemade bread and we are hooked! So easy and so delicious! Thank you ❤❤❤
Oklahoma! My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I'm old school. In it for the music.
Happy Birthday Week Christine.
Yes it is all about the spices. Gravy and steamed rice. lol
The King and I - Shall we Dance! CDA receiving light snow - no wind so far.
Recipes, please! Many of the meals you showed and mention sound great and look easy! Thanks!
Dear Ms. C. A Very Happy, Healthy Birthday to You. 🎂🥳🎉🎊🎈🎁Thanks for All You Do, Love Your Videos and Channel.🤗 Chris from Chicago ❤
more than one skill...rock star!
So true about the seasoning we use more pepper now in our cooking and it makes such a difference!
This isn't a stage musical, but rather a musical film: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is such a great film, and heartbreaking! The melody is in my head for days after watching it.
Listened to this in french class in hs. Wonderful!
Happy Birthday! My husband have the same birthdays this week too... Birthday week sounds like a fabulous idea!!!!!
Our High School did a musical called Back to the 80’s. It was amazing! I’m a little biased, because my daughter and all her friends were in it, but it was worth it. The whole cast and crew did an awesome job.
"Camelot". Love the reverse meal planning. Happy Birthday week!🎂🍨
Singing in the Rain and An American in Paris
Gene Kelly was SO dreamy 😊
Les Mis is absolutely my favorite musical! Then again I love CATS, Phantom, and Wicked too!! I think I just like them all!! I like the Anastaia cartoon so I'd probably like the musical!
Favorite musical is Hamilton. I know that's probably cringe, but I took my daughter to see it on Broadway a couple of years ago for her birthday so it has a special place in my heart.
LOVED HAMILTON!!
Joseph and the amazing technicolor Dreamcoat - the version with Donny Osmond
Mrs. Christine you Always have such GOOD advice. Thank you for sharing 😊👍❤❤❤❤
Soups are even better with homemade bone broth
Also better for you! My cat has a blood disorder that almost killed her. Packaged bone broth works better than the drugs the vet gave her lol. (Lazy cook here so yes I buy her packaged but I am sure making it yourself is far superior. 🎉
I don’t get how yall are so fit and healthy and eat so much processed food. Cudos!
she basically cooked everything from scratch in this video
@ oh, I commented during the intro where I saw Pringles, bagels and cereal. I shoulda watched longer😂 They are super active and can burn all that off. She is so trim and cute!
I'm trying to make a monthly shopping list. Things like ground meat that can be used in tacos, spaghetti, etcetera. I keep pasta and rice around. I buy canned goods when they are on sale. I buy frozen on sale. My big items are cheese, bread, and fresh fruits and veggies.
I am not sure if this is gonna work but I am hoping it will.
My favorite musical is whatever one my son is in at this time! So right now my favorite is "Annie"!!😂😂
It's so true when you have a performer in the family! 😉
Love the birthday week idea, just need to sell the idea to my family 😊
Wicked is my favourite musical every time I see it I am flying on happiness. Enjoy your birthday week Christine 🎉
Les Miserables will ALWAYS be my favorite!
Favorite musical and just saw the North American tour of it was &Juliet. So good! Wicked and Phantom of the Opera also faves.
Les Misérables is amazing gets better each time you see it ❤
Wicked I’ve seen three times in theater and am SO excited to go see the movie… I’m hoping I love it just as much as the live performances I’ve been to.
