Looking at my photos over the past year was depressing. It showed me why I started looking for help through you and other pod casts. I dont have a life outside of my son who is fixing to leave this next year for college. It showed me that I dont have any friends or a significant other. 😢 All I do is work. I need a life! I guess one way to look at it is it wont take much to make 2024 better.

I'm 55 and totally get it! I felt like my body was falling apart but could never get myself to do anything. It was too big. So I started really small, just by going swimming once a week. I'm still overweight but my body already feels better. Start small!

I'm 52, went through menopause at 39, piled up a bunch of injuries, surgical repairs, then 4 total joint replacements, AND was diagnosed hypothyroid. So I went from good health at 40 (before the injuries started) to an absolute physical disaster, packing on....more than 50 pounds. : (. So I can relate to your fight for your health and Mel's comments about menopause. However I can relate MORE to me losing the fight for my partner of nineteen years. While I thought that only others presented a sunny side on social media. I suddenly realized this year that I was censoring a whole side of me too. No one would know that we failed couples counseling in 2013, and hadn't been intimate that long. That we could message or text, especially when he was traveling fine, but couldn't communicate anything besides what he wanted to eat in person. I finally realized this summer that I need to save me, for me. I wish you all of the support and understanding as you cultivate your BEST YOU going forward. Thank you MEL!!

At the begining of this year, I decided to stop watching the news and instead fill my mind with positive, happy, beautiful things. We are now at the end of 2023 and I said to my husband, what important news have I missed this year? Yes I know about the Gaza and Israel conflict, as I hear about it from others, and occassionally whilst flicking through the TV channels. Other than that, here in the UK, there has not been major news. I was worried I was keeping myself ignorant but my view is, if something is really important, I will hear about it from others.
I now focus on YOuTube channels that promote positive, happy and beautiful ways of living.

Thank you, Mel! 2023 was a rough year for me. My husband, who has dementia, had to be placed in a memory care facility about three months ago. The loneliness and guilt has been crushing. I had to leave my job to care for him and companies aren’t kicking down the door to hire someone who got their college degrees 40 years ago. Mel .... I just don't know where to start. I'm 71 years of age and have never learned so much about myself as I have in 2023 starting off when my daughter sent me the link to one of your podcasts ... the Dr. Ramani one about narcissism. OMG, that was the beginning for me. I listen to your podcasts almost daily, the "Let Them Theory" really spoke to me. If it wasn't for you and Dr. Ramani I honestly don't think I'd feel so much more at ease with myself. I'm working on how to Make 2024 the Best Year ... not a whole lot that I can reflect on in terms of accomplishments other than just personal growth but I'll get working on my plans for this year!! Most of the comments others have left you here resonate with me as well. Love you Mel!! You are the best!!

I've always had people look to me for advice, motivation & as a bit of a fixer so when Mel said supporting as opposed to being responsible for people really resonated with me,some people are far too happy to continue to bring you all their problems on a regular basis & just expect you to give of your time & attention without giving anything in return, energy vampire's as they're called so going into a new year I am going to guard my time which is very precious & be more aware especially at the beginning of a new friendship of how I come across as I want relationship's on an even footing & not end up being an unpaid councillor & listening to negativity 😊

As someone who has endured one terrible year after another since 2015, I don’t think in terms of what a year will be like or not be like. Life doesn’t care if the calendar flips over. Thinking about how it’s a new year and all that gives us a false sense of control.

How did you make it through the year feeling depressed and suicidal? Did you get help?
I'm only asking because I finally asked for help. It took there being a traumatic event in September for me to finally ask for help. I even took myself to the hospital and had them take me to a psychiatric hospital. It's the end of the year and I'm grateful to have sought help. I'm on medication and I'm feeling stable and focused. I went from being in bed and crying for 14 days straight to being back at work. I was hiding from the world and now I'm back in it but more present. As I write this I'm outside enjoying the cool but overcast California weather.
So hold on in there and ask for help. I have been depressed for 18 years and had constant suicidal thoughts and now I'm finally free. I'm less afraid, less sarcastic ( it was how I coped), I'm less negative and I'm having better relationships because I'm no longer pushing people away. I pushed people away because I felt undeserving and didn't see the point of having friends or relationships because I felt that I was going to be in this life only temporarily because I was going to kill myself.
So please I know it's hard to believe that you can be helped. When I would read messages about how people would seek help and tell others to seek it I didn't believe that things could get better. But they do.
I'm here and reliving 2023 because I started saying to everyone that it was the worst year of my life but in going month to month and writing the highlights of each month I now see that there was so much good and yes one or 2 horrible events happened that led to me seeking help but I'm stronger now because of those struggles. I have finally realized that I'm resilient and just needed help from my family, and professionals.

I really struggled in the friendship relationship department this year. Lost a lot of people I thought were friends and because I have some anxious attachment problems, I really took it hard. We moved and were adjusting to a new routine also. I spent a lot of the year trying to enjoy life but if I’m honest, I’ve been bitter and angry about a lot of my life. Guess I need to reflect a little more so I can put my word for 2024 into action. I don’t really have new years goals but I try to reflect on how my life was for the year and re-route for the following year. This coming year is: PEACE. Peace in relationships, in my own life, with material possessions and growing my Christian faith way more. If I have to let go of an item, a person or set a boundary for peace my goal this year is to be able to do it confidently.

I lost my youngest son a year ago and a month before that happened I learned my oldest son fell ill and was hospitalized for 8 months, hospital, rehab and nursing home. The nursing home was so horrible that I brought him home and cared for him for 5 months. It was extremely hard to care for him physically and emotionally. He just passed away. These two guys were my everything. Thank goodness I still have a surviving son and daughter. I'm all alone now. I can't find one good thing in the last year because I was with my son constantly and ever day I didn't
know if he was going to be alive. I can't even start to consider where I have been in the last year. I don't know what I want except for my boys back. To me these problems you mention are nothing. How can I move forward when I know there is no way that things can improve. People say time will heal, it doesn't. You just miss them more as time goes on.

I am so sorry about your experience. May your son be resting in eternal peace and may you keep them alive with all the love you feel for them. The good thing WAS that YOU WERE THERE for your son. It sucks, it hurts, it's not something any mother deserves but you had a privilege that not many have. My 46 year old "healthy" older brother died suddenly of a heart attack. Mom, my younger brother and I didn't have the chance to take care of him or say good bye. He was just gone. God bless you. Embrace that as the one good thing about this painful experience. 🫶🏻

I downloaded and was thinking about all the questions, beccause this year was one of my toughest! Move 800 miles to new area, like you, by myself. Lost my largest client costing 1/3 of my income! Also, in menopause also! Also struggling to find friends and need to get involved. And last but the most important having no real health issues, save for one--my eyesight--afraid I may lose my sight! Need to get back my positive self! Thank you for sharing this!

Thanks Mel 😍

Hi! I just want to say I am a new follower of your podcasts, and I just started the High Five Challenge routine and added in the finding hearts as well. And yesterday afternoon just hours after listening to that podcast I went on my afternoon walk and I was so excited when I found four hearts!! I mean it manifested that quick! And then this morning I was for the first time in my life excited about getting to the mirror to see myself and high five myself and look into my eyes and speak my intentions for the day! I was astounded that yesterday was my first day with both the high five and the hearts and I was so looking forward to doing both already. I literally felt this joy and excitement at the prospect of finding hearts today, as well as excited to go high five myself! Thanks so much for what you are doing! I am “addicted” lol! , to listening to your podcasts! These last two years have been the hardest of my life and I am an avid fifteen year long gratitude writer, journaling every morning, meditating, tapping but, these additions have brought me a new something that was missing. I think it must be that knowing the power lies within in us is so different than actually seeing it and feeling it. Which is what these habits have immediately shown me. The other things I do are wonderful too. But, this was immediate. And I know the cumulative benefits will be huge!

Struggle of 2023: Getting over a relationship that I really trusted my heart into. He was not like all other friends I've had, he was supportive and willing to address every issue, had excellent communication, and appreciated my strong character rather than tagging it as 'manly'. I really appreciated these qualities of him but then he left, for the simple reason that his ex came back and now I wonder, if all of it was even real?
The sad part is done. Now here's the good part, I am ready and willing to get past it and every other mental health hurdle I chose to suppress previously. So I frequently tune in to Mel Robbins's podcast. Mel, you give me so much clarity about life, thank you. :))

Thank you for this, Mel. I just finished filling the 2024 guide and feel so well. It really makes a difference when you put your thoughts and reflect on a paper. It helps you to get your power back, recognize your own strength and potential and helps to practice gratitude and compassion. Thank you for having such a big impact in our lives! This is what I have learned about myself in 2023:
    HEALTH AND WELLNESS:
I learned that the hard part of creating a workout routine is the start and what you tell yourself, more than keeping the habit. The habit is actually pleasant.
    CAREER, MONEY OR SCHOOL:
There is no need to stress so much or to feel insecure about a new challenge or when out of your comfort zone. No one was born knowing how to do something already. Be kind and patient with yourself.
    RELATIONSHIPS, LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP:
Everyone is a little anxious in a conversation or in a reunion. There is no need of taking yourself so seriously. Just breathe, be yourself and give it your best.
No one is really thinking about you in the deep way that we think about ourselves.
    FUN AND HAPPINESS:
Learned not to forget to always find ways to make myself happy and not rely on others to fulfil this goal.
    PURPOSE, SPIRITUALITY AND MEANING:
Learned to overcome my fears and anxiety. Learned to not be so hard on myself and to have compassion with myself. Learned that I matter and that we all are unique and have a unique contribution in this world. Learned that I refuse to live a life without purpose. Learned a different strength within myself. Learned a new relationship with God.

Hi Mel, I printed off your booklet and completed it over a weeks time...thinking about each step. I really like how you helped me focus on an attainable change in my personal patterns. 2 years ago I lost my husband to the "widow makers" heart attack. How I managed my life was going into somewhat of a recluse. Many friends and family reached out to me...but, I just couldn't let myself be free. However, my journey continues and my plan for this year is for ME to reach out to others...invite them into my space and back into my heart. (They never left --it was me who pulled away). I live in a small community so this 2nd week of January, I have had 2 coffee dates...it felt good. I have entered a reminder in my phone to review my goals every month. Thank you for your podcasts...they are just so motivational, informational, and all that stuff!! Linda

Hi Linda. It made me smile to read of your two coffee dates already this year. I hope your year goes well. Good luck with your goals. ;-) My goal has some similarity with yours I think. I realized last year that I spent very little time with friends as I travlled a lot. This made me feel disconnected and isolated and sad sometimes. I decided that this year my goal is to make friends and build a community. I though why not start here and reeach out to others who value Mel's help. I think supporting and motivating each othe is a good start. ;-)

This has been the hardest year of my life no exaggeration. My ex mom in law I was close with growing up passed in January, my dad passed away in February (he wasn't around my whole life but I tried to call him he was a cruel person though but hope is lost now for him to come around), then the hardest of all my sweet mom (raised me as single momma) and best practically only friend in August passed away, then last week before Christmas my mom's dog Daisy passed away. If it wasn't for my faith in God and listening to podcasts like yours Mel I could not get through this very well. My mom and I talked daily so it's been completely jarring to routine and I actually was having heart checked out with a heart monitor that week she passed, I now take medicine for palpitations so it's just been a lot and told I have severe anxiety. I'm 41 so I look to Mel more like a sister who can give me motherly advice so when I miss my mom I plan on watching Mel to get me through another day. I wish I had friends like her that have this motivational/ entrepreneurial spirit in my area (in a super small town though and hard to find people like that it seems unless in place like New York) I sorta stick to myself working on cricut crafting projects and past few years started a very small business posting books on Amazon I created for sale and incorporating AI images. Thanks Mel for being a cheerleader in life for those of us who are hurting or simply just having a rough day. Hugs to all your followers and will be answering these 6 questions to go into the new year. I am still trying daily to be the best version of myself and not giving up hope for a successful future (:

My goal is simpler than I thought it would be( or maybe not) I simply want to make new friends and be a part of a community. This stems from feeling alone and isolated sometimes last year diue to constantly travelling. I know many people feel this way but I realize it's down to me to make the changes. Your workbook really helped me to identify what I want, but not only that it helped me clarify what I need to do to achieve my goal. I can now see a clearer path forward. Thank you. Mel you are waking me up today! It is two days after Christmas and I am exhausted. I'm sitting here disappointed in myself for not feeling motivated to do anything but rest my body and mind. I made dinner at Christmas and I almost lost my mind with having to ask for help getting things done to get ready plus having to manage myself and all that I had to do on my own. I'm now having to look forward to working six days in a row which I did to myself just because I wanted to be off Christmas. I'm exhausted from doing everything for everyone else the last three years and doing everything that everyone has told me to do my whole life. I'm ready to change my life and thanks for helping all of us along.

There is nothing wrong with spending time resting. I have worked in retail for the last 15 years and always went to parents or In-Laws at Christmas, both a 2 hour drive away. Christmas was always full on. I gave up my retail job this year and told my husband I wanted to spent a quiet Christmas at home for a change. It was lovely. I now need to motivate myself to get off the sofa :) If people didn't want to help you prepare Christmas dinner, maybe don't invite them next year or suggest going out instead or each person brings a side dish. It shouldn't all be down to you. People are happy to be social loafers and let others do the work.

    Hi Mel
I listened to this driving , it really did make me think!
The big highlight was getting married, but a few months before we had to say goodbye to our two dogs so it was a very up and year. Thankyou for all that you do. I have so much in common with you menopause issues, adhd and major procrastination. Working on it!

Thank you, Mel, for sharing this tool to make the most of 2024. It's really given me some perspective about where I am and where I'm going. I can really relate that some of our "highlights" can cross with our "challenges" from 2023. I'm also going to share this with my direct reports and encourage them to share with their teams.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom with the world. Your frankness is appreciated and invaluable. Happy holidays to you and your family ⭐️

Mel, when I started watching this video, I didn't think I was going to last long into it, but it turned out I couldn't stop listenning and I downloaded the Workbook. I like how real and personal you come out, how honest you are about your problems, because we sure all have problems and facing them is important. Without making this too long, this exercise of the 6 questions does bring clarity in my life. Keep up the good work. Thank you and God bless you.

Thank you for this! And I can share something that I have passed through personally that may be useful regarding your health...find a functional medicine doctor. I tried to do post menopause without any assistance and hardly recognized myself. NOW I feel better than I have in over a decade. Its life changing and I just wish I had gotten this help sooner. Cheers to 2024!

I'm going to try doing this and I want to move forward in a positive way but the last 12 months have been hard on me. High lights was I got to spend time with my brother before he died and with my mom before she had her stroke. Hopefully I was helpful while I was there
