A couple of things you could try to get the lid to close better. You could try lightly pushing the lower hinge batter inwards a bit, and maybe pull the lid barrels outward a bit as well (lower barrel will be easier to manipulate). Another thing is also to gently widen the width of the lid just a touch to reduce its chances of catching the shoulder of the insert. Finally tightening up the cam guide a tiny bit may help as well, so that the cam pulls the lid tighter up against the insert. All of these being a judgement call, of course, not all of the tweaks may apply to your scenario, but I've employed all of these tricks to help alignment on countless used vintage Zippos.
Oh, and I'm glad the insert is working out for you.

Thank you very much for the advice. I will have to try some of what you mention. I haven't done anything to try and correct how it fits into the case. Thank you again for the insert! It really looks sweet inside this case! You are definitely the most knowledgeable Zippo collector that I have the privilege of knowing.

I wonder if there are any companies that still give out Zippos to their employees. It seems like I never really see any with company logos after the 1980s or so.

That's something I've wondered about as well. Ever since smoking became a taboo thing in our society, it seems that businesses try to avoid association with tobacco. Yet, there are utility lighters by Zippo that I've seen with business logos on them that are more modern.

@@zippolyonsden1623 That's just silly because Zippos can be used for a million other things. Like if the zombie apocalypse happened tomorrow, every time I pulled out my Zippo to scare them off, I'd have happy memories of the company that gave it to me.
