- Hear ye, hear ye! Today marks the start of a new Sims 4 Ultimate Decades Challenge. Fate is not kind to us in this episode, and it is only the beginning of the challenge. Will we overcome, or is this already the beginning of the end for the Payne family? Find out in the Ultimate Decades Challenge episode ‘A Cursed Beginning’.

Thank you for the support! I'm working on making a version of my rules but it might take me a while... serf rules and peasant rules and freed person rules... it's looking a little messy :D but once it looks organized I'll definitely share it out. What year have you made it to so far?

I have never watched a Ultimate Decades Challenge as cool as yours and the map of classes was also an excellent idea because in the old days your social status would get you more thing if you were upper class person and lower class wouldn't get that much

Yeah, I think that idea of growing wealth and moving up in classes was one of the big pushes for me to do this, because class impact was soooo big in this time. It also helps keep the challenge interesting between major events 🤭

I've always loved historical accuracy in the Ultimate Decades Challenge and I've been trying to achieve that in my own gameplay but omg you take it farther! I loved watching this episode and also learn more about Serfs and the middle ages in general! Thanks for being an inspiration in my gameplay too and I can't wait to binge the rest of your videos 👀❤

Oh, I’m so in love already. I’m always looking up random things to be as accurate as possible to what it was like then in my medieval save (and I’m learning all the weird things they did back then lol), I love love love how you’re incorporating it in your videos!

@@PlumbobsandthePastI’m currently on year 1319 in windenburg! My first gen heirs died from the famine rolls so now my second gen heirs (both twins) have to pick up the slack in taking care of their four younger siblings. I wish I had seen your modified challenge beforehand! It would’ve been cool to use your great famine rules since getting mugged or attacked for food was definitely more likely to happen. Would’ve been cooler for storytelling purposes too! Can’t wait to see how your famine turns out.

I'm really excited by the famine travel roll and the way it evolves over the course of the famine, but it is terrifying! (But also feels realistic) That might be what I like best about doing this on YT, though, that the comments lead to new rules and changes and ideas
Im living for this series so much! Thank you for bringing this to life! I love the historical facts and could listen to you talk about your research for hours, love the passion! Starting my own two playthroughs thanks to you using your doc :D : The Dyers and The Kovacs-Fulop families... The Dyers are just relaxing (despite the name lol) and Kovacs-Fulop's are a family from Hungary, picked said country due to its history especially during late 12th century, let's just say when the Golden Horde attacked, they were surprised at how much had changed from the last time the Hungarians were invaded.... I gave them so much backstory hewlp lol

You can do anything you want to! From a historical perspective, a lot of the spring holidays tended to include fasting because there wasn't as much food left from the harvest the year before. I can't remember off the top of my head if it was Rogation Days or Ascension Days, but one of them was one where the people would parade from one town to the next after several days of fasting. Harvest festivals were usually thrown by the lords or land owners, and they'd provide a bunch of food and sometimes gifts to their peasants. For me, I don't like the sims 'failing' a holiday, so I just add things that my sims can do, but there are some websites like Encyclopedia Britannica that have a few things people used to do on each holiday that could help provide some historical ideas if you want to have them be based on the past.

For a long time my favorite was the Mongolian empire (unfortunately there's no real way to fold it in since that empire falls around the time of the great famine ☹) but I'm currently really enjoying learning about the Ottoman Empire, the Tudors (...its always drama with them...), and the Baltics. There is just too much!

😂 I'm not sure what happened with these sims, but the 3 gen 1 siblings all were genetically mixed by in-game mechanics from Vilkas Sr. and Adalbjorg, and still came out this way... very unexpected 😂 I agree, they're almost too good looking...

I'm not from Lithuania myself, but I was incredibly moved and inspired when I visited recently (moved to the point of starting this challenge on UA-cam to share Lithuanian history with the world, since it doesn't get shared enough). If I get anything wrong, please let me know! English language sources of the Baltics at this time are really, really difficult to find.
In the future episodes we are always surprised by how brutal the adult role is... yet in episode one the roller showed us exactly how brutal it was, haha

Oh my goodness, I'm so glad you've said that!!! It *is* meant to be hello in Lithuanian!!! 😄The idea of doing youtube never occurred to me until I was travelling in the Baltics last summer/fall and was so inspired by all the complex history of the area that's often overshadowed by recent historical events and the dominance of the Latin Europe narrative in the far past that I wanted to explore that through a challenge I love anyway. In particular, I loved Lithuania so very much when I was there ❤❤ and couldn't believe the rich history I'd never heard about before, so here we are! Getting research has been a little tough, so I hope I've done an okay job with my interpretation of the past events...
Just discovering & starting your UDC series here, I can already tell I'm gonna really like this! I love UDC plays but I tend to be picky about them and one of the big reasons is if someone's UDC gets ahistorical it can really bother me, I'm very auDHD about it LMAO. I know the very nature of the game can kind of limit how dedicated to realism one can be but even stuff like giving their kids very non-medieval names irks me. So I'm delighted to find your series, I LOVE to nerd out, you even have sources cited, I'm already learning new stuff even, I'm PSYCHED.
(Not so psyched about BOTH the parents, though, that sucks for real 😢)
Question, out of curiosity, the Payne family's names seem Nordic in origin, I know you said their grandfather comes from another kingdom, is he a descendant of the Danes perhaps? Or is the Viking influence still just really strong in names in general here at this time? Dagmar Plowman has me thinking the Plowmans have Danish names, too

Usually I've just leaned on the werewolves pack and gone for the brown shades of that exercise equipment because versions are so hard to find, but I did recently see that a cc creator called KyriaT has a set called "Hercules Gym Set" that changes the swatches a little to make it more linen looking on the fabric part. There are a couple other really cute historical overrides or versions of other objects there too!
@@PlumbobsandthePast Ah, I've avoided getting the werewolf pack because I'm not a fan of occult sims...might have to watch for the next sale! Otherwise I'm stuck with shoving treadmills in a locked off room where no-one can access them...

Usually I'm not a big fan of occult gameplay either, but the build/buy was so my modern play style for that pack that I ended up getting it and really enjoyed werewolves for a minute there 🤭 The hidden treadmill, the basement tv, ah the things we have to do in our historical saves! 😅
I was thinking about doing a Payne family too because I'm a Payne and can trace my ancestry back that far 👀
From what I understand, it is a pretty common surname at that time. You should definitely do it! How cool that you can trace your ancestry back all that way!!!
If I ever decide to play this I think I would use more of DnD rules with saving throws & stuff like that

I checked on the creators discord and I can't see anything about that. I've never seen anyone reference the teas and wines bit (& it's separate from the mods other recipes when I've seen people click on their ovens). I just wanted to check I had the right mod, not sure what's happening. Thanks anyway.
Hey again! Sorry for such a delayed response, but I just got back into my UDC save file this week and looked to see if it was there after all. Do you have the modded ovens that work with LBB's ye olde cookbook? Mine are from Simsverses (aka Medieval Sims Tailor and Carpenter) and I believe the teas and wines only pop up as an option on the oven, not on the cookbook from LBB. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I think it was an option before horse ranch came out (?)
Would love to have access to the save file!!! And the mods you have used 🥰
I'm working on getting a list of mods pulled together but am struggling to make it aesthetically appealing 😞 Once it isn't hideous to behold, I'll share that with everyone!
