I have no clue why these guys are complaining. This game is the best way for me to play guitar. I've been to numerous guitar tutors over the years and none have helped me as much as the game has! I played it on my guitar for 2 months and I can say I went from 0 to 5 Last month I decided that I would like to give bass a go and I bought a 900 dollar bass lol. I have never touched a bass before that. In 2 weeks I was getting over 100 I would say I went from a 0 to 8 for bass. And after i started getting 80 plus in a song, i began getting familiar with the the tune and drum beats of the song and can play without looking at the screen (you have to because sometimes they switch to master mode, which makes the guide in the screen to disappear) I can play creep, x kid, 2 princes, today, losing my religion, burning for you, say it ain't so, every breath you take, sweater song and self esteem without the game now. You just have to be dedicated
Sunny Josan Honestly, I've been sort of playing on and off on guitar for the last 5 years and never truly learned to fully play the guitar...I initially thought Rocksmith was a complete gimmick and/or Guitar Hero or Rockband rip off. But I am a visual learner so maybe this will finally get my started on playing both guitar and bass, of course there will be continued learning on Tabs to learn songs outside of the game. I'm still willing to give this game a try..
DrLucifer yes and no I play the game a lot and started to mess with it. when you're playing the fast parts if there's no chord change or no note change it will register that you played say 4 1/8 notes with only 1 strike. If you have a guitar with a lot of sustaine it will say you played even more notes with only 1 strike of the string or chord.
This game is a great way to learn how to play guitar and bass. (I play drums, bass, guitar, piano for about 8 years now. Nothing professional, just for fun.) But what made the game for me was the custom songs you can download. I would die if I had to be stuck with the original tracklist
bro, do you have any idea if this would work with the Rocksmith adapter www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone/SG-Electric-Guitar-Performance-Pack.gc it says "Guitar / Bass requires standard 1/4" output jack" and also, which one is better, the Epiphone SG or the Epiphone Les Paul?
james mate, i dont know how far along you are in your skills but some recommendations, spend a few minutes a day sit with your guitar, no game, start from the top of the frets, and strum each individual note on each fret and string all the way down. thisll help so that once youve gotten pretty fast at it youll know instinctively what fret you need for the game. for individual string picking try strumming an open note, then immediatly strumming the top string, another open note, then strumming A etc etc all the way down and back up
I have been playing guitar for over a year now and I decided to try this out a couple months ago and thought it was a great learning experience and you are doing good in this video for a beginner and its not as hard as it looks but good luck in learning
I have rocksmith and rocksmith 2014 and i swear by this game. I play the bass and this game as helped my hone my skills. Ive been playing since 2007 and never really had any luck with it until I got this game. Now Im playing songs that I never dreamed about playing. So keep up the practice and it will pay off trust me. BTW i LOVE your R2D2 Xbox 360 sittin down there, simply AMAZING!
I want to learn guitar But I'm having such a great time playing the bass. The guitarcade really helps a lot even the lesson's themselves will help you so much. I think you'll get the hang of it pretty quick and have just as much fun as i do playing. Good Luck.
Great job James on the video, your blatant honesty is refreshing! I tried learning guitar a while back and this is inspiring me to give it another go. Keep up the good work.
Hey James, great video, just a quick question. Are you still playing guitar now? I was thinking of getting rocksmith and just wanna know if it payed off for you, thanks :)
Hey man nice idea on the series. Even though I've been playing for years this game is still a bunch of fun. I'm confident you'll pick it up quick. I subscribed by the way. How often do you think you'll upload? Once a week or so? Take care.
Found a used guitar, practice amp, the game for Xbox 360 w/ cables for $150 def getting this for my brother and nephew!!! I've been playing guitar for over 10 years but I feel this will be a great way for them to learn since they like playing video games. I think it'll be a fun way for them to get into a real instrument playing a video game hehe
Practice practice practice man. I've been playing for 10 years now and it's a blast. We all develop our own techniques. I wish I had Rocksmith when I started. And use the guitarcade. It helps a TON.
Nice video, looking forward to seeing how you progress through this, probably picking this up around christmas so hopefully i can learn something!Subscribed and i cant wait to see your next videos for this :)
So 1,5 months later, how is your improvement? Are you playing much better since you started playing the game? I really wonder... loving the video by the way, I'll maybe buy the game myself.
I enjoyed watching the video and I am looking forward to seeing your progress. I just ordered Rocksmith 2014 and I am waiting for it to arrive. I do play some already so I thought I would give you a little tip that will make picking easier. Brace your pinkie finger on the pick guard. This makes your picking hand more stable and gives it a reference point. Of course you will not brace when you strum chords but it makes picking notes much easier...happy playing...
Thanks for this post James, i've just bought this for my son for Christmas and its great to get a feel for how the game starts out. I've got a quick question re. The possible audio lag, which one of the audio setups are you using and have you noticed any lag issues at all. If you have the time to pass on your thoughts i'd appreciate it. Best of luck with the playing, look forward to seeing how you get on, cheers!
***** Thanks for that feedback James. We shall be using pretty much the same setup but with the 360 version so hopefully should be fine. Looking forward to having a go myself. Cheers Steve.
Hey I got this for christmas and i got my guitar shipped across the country to play the game but when I'm setting up the game and go into the calibration phase it says my guitar isn't plugged in and to plug it in using the real tone cable. Though it is already plugged in? I have an epiphone SG which was recently all fixed up by my guitar store so there is no reason it shouldn't work? Also it is an Epiphone guitar so you'd think it would work fine because of the game being sponsored by epiphany and all. I don't know if this is where i should be asking this but just trying to figure it out??
Just ordered this game and looking forward to giving it a shot. I really enjoyed your impressions of the game because it gives a real sense of what I should expect. I did notice though that this was published a little over a year ago and I've been searching for your 60 day challenge videos. did you publish them?
Hope you are getting on well with the game. One thing I ought to point out is that, if you find the on-screen layout of the strings confusing then you can invert them via one of the menu options (the default setting has the top E string at the bottom of the screen which, while this string is closest to the floor when you hold the guitar, the layout used in guitar TAB outside of the game tends to show the top E string uppermost because this is the order that you see the strings when you look down on the guitar).
Another useful tip is that it is generally advisable to use a cloth to wipe the fretboard and strings after each use; this helps prolong the lifespan of the strings.
Hey James, will follow your progress as I've just gotten this for myself to learn guitar. Be interesting to see how you sound in a week. :) Your vid definitely got me excited to start trying it.
Looking forward to seeing how you progress, as someone who has played for years and sometimes teaches I am interested in seeing how this truly works for a beginner (not in marketing material from ubisoft). Thanks for taking this on, and good luck to you as well.
Greetings, I'm thinking of buying Rocksmith, though I'm not an absolute beginner but I'd like to consider myself as one, I wanted to know whether rocksmith has lessons like chord charts or scale postioning etc. Your reply would help me a lot on my journey, thanks in advance.
Hey James thanks for the video. It was nice to see a true beginner like me demonstrating this game/tool. I've tried teaching myself guitar before with very minimal success. Having it in a game I think will make it much more fun and easy to learn. I recently broke my back and now can no longer do the sports I love i.e. snowboard and mountain bike so been looking for something to occupy my time. I've always wanted to learn guitar and think this game/tool will be perfect for me. How's it been going for you?
Dear Rock God just thought I'd share my story with you. I am 68, have always wanted to play the guitar but never had the patience or the dexterity to get very far, a couple of years ago I bought myself a guitar with a view to actually learning in my retirement but as you can imagine it just sits there in my living room looking good but is never touched. I have now purchased Rocksmith 2014 and I will learn to play even if it is only chopsticks or whatever the guitar equivalent is. I will be watching your progress with interest.
One thing to know. Xbox, that you clearly have, supports voice commands, so at times you don't have to use a controller. However, it might not be entirely perfect. It works for me. I picked up this game several weeks ago and play when I have time. I also was at a beginner level, now I would choose the novice option, though. I notice my progress and you will as well, just keep at it.
Well done! keep it up! Anything anyone first learns is hard but you'll get the hang of it! I mainly only bought this for the Epiphone, but by the looks of things I could learn a few things on bass and guitar. Hope the 60-day challenge goes your way mate!
Hey great video I was looking for anymore I wanted to know how you did after finally finishing the 60 days? I play guitar myself and have been playing for quite some time and this game looks absolutely amazing especially with the AI band that will play with you. Have you messed around with it and is it pretty good? Either way this is definitely my next purchase.
James, thanks a million for reviewing this 'game' I am really interested in learning to play; since I was a kid. Now maybe I will have the chance in my 40's.
Keep it up! I've just startedusing this program as well (for just over a week now) and making some nice progress so far My biggest problem is getting my fingers at the right place when doing chords, but hey.. it has only been 9 days...
Subscribed to your channel man! Hoping you enjoy your Rocksmith experience, as I had enjoyed mine. I really like to know how a complete beginner can benefit from Rocksmith, and see if it really helps! Good luck man!
I've put this off for far too long...I've had the game since Christmas with an Eastwood Airline Deluxe repro on the way...I need to get serious about this stuff. You've inspired me to give it a shot, I'm currently psyching myself up for taking the game with me to my bedroom to put good use to my "collection" [one acoustic, two electric (soon to be three, one's the silly one that came with Power Gig) and a bass] and learn something amazing. Thanks, man!
For those of you not familiar with guitar looking to buy the 200 dollar version with guitar included, the guitar needs to be properly set up or you'll have issues. Look for the video on UA-cam about it. These problems that you find might seem minor, but they make a huge difference! Buy a guitar from guitar center and have it set up professionally instead of the cheap included guitar
I am a sax player, but I have a keen interest in playing guitar. I have 3 guitars (one acoustic electric and 2 bass guitars) I am thinking of getting this software I guess I will wait to see how you progress before doing that. I have Xbox 1 which I hardly use, will it be helpful to get the Mac/PC version instead.
This isn't the fastest way. But it IS a fun way. I would definitely recommend this game. It will teach you to play. However, you won't get better after a certain point, but that will take a long time if you only practice via Rocksmith. It's a good purchase, go buy it.
so hows the challenge going ? not sure 60 days is realistic. Ive been using the first Rocksmith for about 9 months now. Its amazing when your fingers start working without thinking. But in 60 days? Good Luck.
If you're left handed you should really try a left handed guitar. The mechanism for good strumming and picking is much weaker in off-hand so your strumming and picking may be stiff and robotic.
+wesmatron Good feedback. But for some reason doing it the right-handed way feels much more natural to me. I think it is because I have always done 'air guitar' in that position!
DeeJayOne Isn't it weird though that the hand you would normally use for fingering (ie the technical and tricky stuff) is usually your weaker hand? It's down to that simple strumming action that your off-hand is rubbish at
Will this work with a Fender Mini Strat Squier? My son is just starting Guitar lessons & I haven't bought the guitar yet I heard this is a good game for some practice.
It works with virtually *any* guitar, and compatibility may well have been increased considerably since the recent update that allows you to use a USB microphone instead of a RealTone cable (so acoustic guitars should now work with the game)!
I am going to keep coming back to see your progress. I play bass and I have been learning for over 18 months now and I want to play guitar too. If it works for you I will get it and see what happens. Great video though
Can u use ur own guitar for the game? i have an epiphone nighthawk and a cort and i've been playing guitar for 5 years just thought i'd try the game out :)
Waiting on my guitar to arrive in the mail and start my own 60 day challenge. Really looking forward to it. Good luck with yours! BTW, nice pinball machine in the background. :)
Awesome watching someone else using Rocksmith 2014, I heard about the bundle's before and was wondering how good they are? I'm really interested to see how you get on with your 60 day challenge, I've been playing on and of since October, I'm up to power chords finding it hard going for various reasons, I believe my guitars intonation need's setting up as it's never been done, I'm also missing half an inch of my left index finger:( The thing to understand about guitar playing is it take's years to get good but Rocksmith is the way to go, my guitar is a Encore Blaster E/6, The thing that frustrate's me is the difference in the way my guitar sounds and the way the girl in Rocksmith sounds, so am saving up to buy an Epiphone Les Paul custom, The important thing is to enjoy the trip learning
When I first started I got very frustrated so I quot . Than played again and quit right after. It was so hard . It's been 3 months and ima superstar and I can't play twinkle twinkle . Rock on
I have no clue why these guys are complaining. This game is the best way for me to play guitar. I've been to numerous guitar tutors over the years and none have helped me as much as the game has!

lol creeps four notes I wouldnt call that an 8 at bass

Diminished Epiphone Les Paul
When I first saw this on the steam store I thought it was a game where you make tools from rock, iron etc.
I remember this was the first vid I watched on rocksmith back in 2014. 7 years later ive probably spent over 4 grand on gear and can genuinely play
looping your cable through your strap is to prevent your cord from being unplugged when rocking about the stage

Just realized he's got a pinball machine

" I play air guitar this way round". I love it!
I like the idea that anybody can learn and play guitar at starting as a game.thumbs up for the developers
Great job James on the video, your blatant honesty is refreshing! I tried learning guitar a while back and this is inspiring me to give it another go. Keep up the good work.

Hi, I have a question. Can I use and plug the Rocksmith into a electro acoustic guitar? Or is it just for electric and bass ones?
So 1,5 months later, how is your improvement? Are you playing much better since you started playing the game? I really wonder... loving the video by the way, I'll maybe buy the game myself.

Hey James, will follow your progress as I've just gotten this for myself to learn guitar. Be interesting to see how you sound in a week. :) Your vid definitely got me excited to start trying it.
Good, I'm got a couple of basic threads done for some songs. The fret changes are a challenge for my fingers still not fast enough but getting there.
Looking forward to seeing how you progress, as someone who has played for years and sometimes teaches I am interested in seeing how this truly works for a beginner (not in marketing material from ubisoft). Thanks for taking this on, and good luck to you as well.
Subscribed as i want to see your progress. Good luck James and have fun!

Omg great video plus 11th Matt Smith shirt and a dalek in the background epicness love it
Did you stick with this game? If so, can you play now? I am thinking about getting it but I don't want to get it if it's not going to help me.
***** Is this the only guitar you could have with it, if so how much did it cost?
ACDC101232
You can use any electric guitar that uses the standard jack, which means you can use ANY electric guitar.

Hey great video I was looking for anymore I wanted to know how you did after finally finishing the 60 days? I play guitar myself and have been playing for quite some time and this game looks absolutely amazing especially with the AI band that will play with you. Have you messed around with it and is it pretty good? Either way this is definitely my next purchase.
it does look cool
James, thanks a million for reviewing this 'game' I am really interested in learning to play; since I was a kid. Now maybe I will have the chance in my 40's.
Keep it up! I've just startedusing this program as well (for just over a week now) and making some nice progress so far
My biggest problem is getting my fingers at the right place when doing chords, but hey.. it has only been 9 days...
Hey James. Great videos. However, your 60 day challenge videos were posted 8 months ago.. any updates? Do you plan to go any further with this?
Just stumbled onto your page, but loving what I see! Subbed and liked! Keep it up!
A little slower than I'd hoped; my fingers are a tad too short 'n skinny to do all the chords properly, but I'm working on it!
Rocksmith has made me such a better player- absolutely love this game.
I've played for 5 years and am doing grade six but could play songs at grade 7/8... Will i still be challenged on rocksmith?
Nice review chap. How did you go leaning guitar in the end?
For those of you not familiar with guitar looking to buy the 200 dollar version with guitar included, the guitar needs to be properly set up or you'll have issues. The dots on your fretboard are also displayed on the side of the neck, it's the same as the numbers you get the stickers for.
***** You're welcome :)
Can you use your own guitar amp cable or do you have to buy it with the game?
thanks for the video :) also gotta say love the shirt and the sneaky Dalek in the background!
I am a sax player, but I have a keen interest in playing guitar. Have you given up on this, I can't find any updates or progress vids.
Anything to add about RS?
Cool, thanks man!
I'm considering trying this out later this year.
***** I can't help but echo him, I would love to see an update. Your video was very entertaining.

Can u use ur own guitar for the game? i have an epiphone nighthawk and a cort and i've been playing guitar for 5 years just thought i'd try the game out :)
Yes, you can use any electric guitar as long as you can put a quarter inch cable in it which is the standard guitar cable. Great game!
chrs for all the replies i just got it in the post from amazon yesterday for £40.00. Great deal for a great game :)
That dalek on the top shelf above the TV is really cool
Do you have update videos yet? How are you liking it? I would be starting from the beginning also but I do wanna learn
Is it really hard to get used to like how the setup is or is it kind of simple to get used to the note setup and stuff?
Hi, James. Do you think this would be easy to learn for a 14 year old who have never played guitar? :)
Im left handed and want to buy the bundle that comes with the guitar, do I still just hold it the other way?
Subscribed. I am thinking about buying this game with guitar. For now I will look your progress. Good luck with challenge!
Decided to buy the game based on your review. Well...gotta go about finding it first but thanks!
Enjoying your videos thus far. Thinking about picking up the software and trying to find a guitar - the bundles have become scarce.
Waiting on my guitar to arrive in the mail and start my own 60 day challenge. Really looking forward to it. Good luck with yours! BTW, nice pinball machine in the background. :)
How did it go XD???
Nice DW pin back there. I use to own one.miss it everyday
Can you plug the guitar into an actual amp? Pretty sure yes, but I'm a noob so, not harm in double checking nawmshayin
This looks like a whole lot of fun I might pick this up pretty soon
I'll be supporting your quest in search for ultimate guitar supremacy. Subscribed!
Doctor who arcade machine and a dalek!! Ahhh we are officially best friends.
Love the pinball machine in the background!!!
Does the guitar come set up or is it not needed for this game?
I know nothing about playing or guitars. Do you think I could learn?
If you wanna download songs to learn from are they free or you have to buy it
lol stickers for fret markers. That's what the dots are for. But hey, learning I guess.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Ey James, could you please make another rocksmith video? I started playing on the same day as you and I'd like to see much you have progressed.
Good vid, great insight on what the game is about.
so basically you play a real guitar like as if your playing guitar hero?
+BassPlayerMatt Yep
How does the game run on ps3? Does it recognise every chord? Does the game lag? Any problems/issues?
im trying this tool on pc, and I gotta say its quiet confusing, I don't need the learn part , im just interested in the jamming tool,
When I first started I got very frustrated so I quot . Than played again and quit right after. It was so hard . It's been 3 months and ima superstar and I can't play twinkle twinkle . Rock on
Excuse the ignorant question, does anybody know if this works with a bass? Excellent review. Excuse my English, too.
Say if I use gaming headphones, am I hearing my actual guitar, or a recreated sound from the game?
great vid thank you and it was made even better from someone you has just started playing than someone who is way more experienced with playing :)
Hey, I've sent you a PM regarding a potential partnership. Check it out, and let me know if you're interested!

You have my subscription :) I will follow your progress. Hope to see more videos soon!
I too am left handed but I prefer to hold it right handed. It's called cross dexterity.
Nice pinball machine.
What's the name of the game. Got the guitar and everything
can you use a electric acoustic guitar of your own with the tone cable or do you need to use the guitar that comes with the game?
You can use a electric acoustic guitar
And you have to get the cable that come with the game you can also use your own guitar as long as it's electric
