Both my sons under 13 learned guitar from Rocksmith. Thank you for making this game! 1 hour a day for 60 days = 1 year of guitar lessons.

Rocksmith helped me out on some things, but my guitar teacher helped me more, so me and my guitar teacher + Rocksmith = very good skill
I'm not a very very good guitarist yet, but I'll be there on that day

I'm playing the game now, It is definitely helpful. I've been playing for many years, mostly simple chords for songs. Always wanted to do something with lead guitar, but never really knew where to start. And maybe thats the best thing about Rocksmith, it gives you a definite place to start and grow.

***** I have watched all of them actually. They dont all claim they had a guitar before. They do claim they have tried to learn guitar before. Also this is an advert for a game that is sponsored by Gibson & epiphone. They are not going to have them playing other guitars because its against the sponsorship contract plus it would likely get them sued by other guitar manufacturers. Plus there is the fact that Epiphone is super huge brand with beginners and intermediate players.
if you made a video about a bunch of people learning to play acoustic they would all probably be holding an ibanez.

I have been playing 2 months, my son got an electric guitar for Christmas and i decided at the age of 50 that i would give it a go too, had some lessons and really love it, seeing small improvements each day is such a thrill. I don't know why some on here are so negative, i wished i had started 40 years ago, it doesn't matter what method you use if you enjoy playing a musical instrument that's all that matters if Rocksmith introduces people to playing that has to be a good thing It seems you get the same kind of reaction when discussing guitarists, it doesn't matter who's best, enjoy the music.

I bought an epiphone les paul as my first guitar, I'm an adult and can afford it. I also started playing this game about 8 months ago. The best thing about it is it puts the guitar in your hands, two hours will pass very quickly as opposed to following instruction out of a book or a weekly guitar lesson. With the confidence this game gave me I signed up to guitarjamz marty schwartz and now I can solo over backing tracks. So I have to strongly disagree with anyone who thinks this doesn't help. If you have music in you this will help you find it and bring it out. One of the best and life changing things I've ever bought. (i will often practice for 3 hours so I'm sure that helps)

I found Rocksmith really good to figure out a few basics. I tried first playing guitar in 2008 and couldn't do a single thing. All I know is after around 40 hours on Rocksmith, I can plug my guitar into my regular amp and play some tabs. Obviously I'm still learning but Rocksmith really helped me through the awkward beginning when everything is overwhelming and you struggle to hold the most basic chords. Myself and so many of my friends quit guitar over the years after a few days because it was so overwhelming but thanks to this game, I learned enough basics so it wasn't scary looking at tabs to play. I'm also having fun which is the most important thing unlike back in 2008 when it wasn't fun at all because it was so confusing.

I first saw this video and all the other 60 Day Challenge Rocksmith stuff last year mid September. I had a guitar that I never learned to play sitting in my house for 20 human years (I'm 36). I bought Rocksmith and played everyday for just 15-30 minutes for 60 days and then re-watched the videos and realized I was on the same skill level as all the people in them. Now just after five months I am playing about 1-2 hours a day. Don't dismiss Rocksmith as a valid teaching tool because it is a game. Six months ago all I could play was an open E chord, now I can actually play guitar and bass guitar enough to impress friends and family.

Been playing bass on rocksmith for about 5 months now. I have musical background on saxophone, but that's completely different from bass. It's truly amazing how good I've gotten on bass in five months. If there is one suggestion I have to newcomers, it's to practice with your own amp often. It helps you get a better tone and lets you figure out your own mistakes, which is an extremely valuable skill. And if there is one thing I could say about the game, it's that I think it should try to teach you note names, even though that's pretty easy to learn on your own.

+UnicornSlaya Alot of these people probobly arent paying attention to the tutorial sections as rocksmith had me dwn and up strumming after my third day and I continuously reminded myself to do it at every chance.
So its really more about the person. Everyone picks up bad habbits and I would say not strumming fluidly to position is probably one of the easiest to pick up

It's not an awful way to learn guitar, but you always want to start off learning your chords, switching between them, and learning your pentatonic scales before you start playing songs. Knowing how to play songs is cool, but knowing the real essentials of guitar allow you to do much more than that.

Rocksmith is an utter crap for people like me I've learned to play trough books and paid online tutorials so far I am doing better that the rocksmith thing, it just gives you a push to practice the guitar, so basicly it's good for beginners, well for me... I refunded the game because I am always confused where do I need to put my fingers on the fretboard and i can read tabs because it's easier for me,
And the lessons are useless for me also.

    • @DKZomb0
      @DKZomb0 7 років тому

Yes I also feel i didn't really learn from it... you do sharpen your techniques but I think you do that as well by just playing from tabs and learning to plays songs that way. But like you say, it gets beginners more into guitar and that's a good thing

The best part of this particular success story is the fact that at the end he is playing the guitar and is barely looking at the screen. He "knows" the song, he "knows" the chord progression that he has to play and that shows that this game is not only awesome, but also effective.

I will have to say, I too have Rocksmith 2014 and it DOES WORK. It's cheaper than guitar lessons and it's just fun to play. I never really knew how to play the guitar before, I could strum a few notes here and there but to learn how to play is amazing. For the beginners, I recommend Rocksmith 2014, it will start you off slow usually one note at a time for Lead. The more you progress (even while you are playing) the more it throws at you. It will challenge you. I love this game....I just wish I could still play it though. My dog ate the cable for it =(

Im a big fan of Rocksmith and totally agree its a great way to learn. I would encourage people to learn more traditionally as well though, Rocksmith does its best to teach good form through the lessons but you may need a teacher just to not build bad habits that will hurt you in the long run. Maybe take a few starter lessons to get going, then Rocksmith would be a great tool as well!

Even after this short a time, I've mastered a song (granted, Blitzkrieg Bop is the easiest song on the disc, but progress IS progress), started training my fingers to stretch properly for chords, gained a little bit of muscle memory for the frets, and understood most of the basics for playing guitar. Again, that's 4 days in, from absolutely no worthwhile experience.
I understand that this isn't the most ideal learning tool for more advanced players, but it is absolutely perfect for beginners like me who want to learn how to play. It really helps get you over the massive hump of awkward confusion when you pick up a guitar for the first time.
Hopefully, I'll be reading tabs like a pro in June.

I've bought the game and i have to say WORTH it TOTALLY WORTH IT even if 1 dlc costs like 3 dollars.
After 1,5-2 years of playing i've played more than 500 hours i've finally reached a moment when i became able to play not just only the rythm part of the songs but also some simple solos, so i'm happy with that :-)

Got my first two guitars on my 13th birthday, and played them for about 3 straight years and got pretty decent at it. Gave up around my 5th year due to school, work, and just frustration (I'm very impatient with everything lol) I'm 20 years old now, and my acoustic is just collecting dust in my room. I'd very much like to play, but I hate playing with my parents constantly listening in on me play (I get horrible stage freight, I'd rather play alone) but anyways, even though I can pull a couple of riffs and songs from my memory bank when I jam with a friend, I would love to learn at the pace again like when I was 13. I think rocksmith would be the tool to build my confidence and help me re-learn everything. I wanted to play guitar because I love music, and I regret giving up on it, but I know I'm not the only one who has done the same thing I've done.

i wonder how many hours a day these people are playing it in the 60 days.... i have the first rocksmith and i love it.... and no it doesnt simpily teach you how to play songs thats just the main staple.. it has chord lessons, harmonics training. scale training it covers everything... it has videos showing exactly how to do everything.... one of my faviortte things about the game is it turns your stereo into just about any pre amp/pedal/amp configuration you could ever ask for so you can jam on free mode with any sound you want without having to buy all the expensive gear

Yes the Epiphone guitars are bundled with the "complete" purchase option. They did this with the original version as well. Smart move on Epiphone's part retaining that contract. For the record I don't think these people are faking their "starting level" abilities. Watch the eye movement between the guitar and screen. Folks that are beyond the basic level would be less inclined to look down at the fretboard as often. Really cool software, I can't wait for my sons to start using it.

I do wish it recognized if you haven't played the song in a while and lightened up a little but wtf. The game is killer. Good video, thanks again. (edit) As far as technique? there are plenty of the top players on you tube to teach that. I did skip over that section on RS. Was fortunate to get lessons from one of the greatest ever over 30 years ago who changed what I was doing. I just love this game cause it keeps you tight and introduces people who want to play to play in a fun fashion. Thanks once again, have fun.

    • @ofnir123
      @ofnir123 9 років тому

I'd say it's an alternative way of learning the basics, and it's worth it if you really want ot learn it
My only tip is: don't limit yourself. Get information elsewhere too. There's a TON of things Rocksmith just doesn't teach you, a good example of this is that even with "perfect" playing, your song will sound like shit if you can't do proper muting of the strings you aren't using.
But it DOES teach you the basics. Just take its evaluation of your bends with a grain of salt, it has some trouble recognizing them sometimes

Its a good game for begginers, you can learn everything the game doesnt teach you pretty fast. I would say faster than a tutor, and at least when your do e you will know enough rythem and cords that yoh ca make music everyone can enjoy :)

Here's the plan which I used and probably experienced player who has played rocksmith would Recommend.
      1. Get yourself tutored, either privately or a group its your choice.
Basically this game teaches you songs the most Easiest way possible and that is through experience.
The game won't teach you how to hold the guitar, how to keep your fingers pointed and some tiny things which
make a lot of difference to your playstyle and the way the tone would sound.
      2. The game doesn't teach you through notations (musical Notations). Its just like a rhythm game but the results
are seen on your actual guitar playing.
      3. Rocksmith is the fastest way to learn guitar. Definitely, no doubt about that, but the lessons taught by a music
teacher are very valuable, don't ditch them.
4.Learn with your music teacher and Rocksmith simultaneously. It will make a proper guitar player.
In conclusion I would definitely recommend rocksmith 2014 but not the Rocksmith (the older version). Dont ditch the coaching from a real life music teacher.
Hope that helped. (Pardon me If i have grammar mistakes)

I don't think you could learn to play in 60 days, the only way that would work is if you already had some guitar experience under your belt.
That aside though I have to admit it's not a bad way of learning songs, and most of all just having a bit of fun. The only problem I really have is the lack of a proper tab system. The system it's using is a real pain in the arse for me, though that's in large part because I'm so used to traditional tab. I don't really understand why they couldn't have included a more traditional style layout since that's what a lot of guitar players will know how to use. I suppose most problems are just going to be down to adjusting to a different way of doing things than I'm used to with guitar.
I utterly love the riff repeater, exactly the same as taking chunks of a song and slowing it down in audacity (assuming you don't turn down difficulty) except that you can just flick between sections nice and quickly. Though it would help if you could also just isolate a section of song in tab form and just learn the phrase without it moving around.

You can actually have it like guitar tab in the game all you have to do is invert the strings.
