    Brooks Kings are probably my favorite species; or a tie with the Eastern. What I love so much about Brooks is that they do still get large (around 5ft, or more) but they're also the heaviest bodied of the Kingsnakes.

    Thanks for this video and sharing your knowledge, experience and seeing some of the really great "underrated" North American colubrids. You are an asset to those of us who are new to reptiles and learning about all the different species.

    I have a stunning red-phase hypo mosaic Brooks king (named Brooke...again original, I know haha). She is the BEST pet I've ever owned. Extremely gentle, predictable and ever inquisitive; yet, as you stated in the video, she is HIGHLY agile and extremely fast when food is present, so I always keep that in mind when I'm about to feed her. I don't worry about her tagging me though, as she seems to always know where I am in relation to the food items, unlike my Cali King. Ugh.
    Anyway, good video, and thanks for posting!

    I’m breeding my Albino Jelly Brooks king pair this year! My female is MASSIVE bro. 4 feet but she’s maybe 3-4 in. Thick. Got bit by her last night and it was NOT fun… 🙏💀 great channel man, just found your channel. And yep. High food response 🤣🤣 he latched on my middle finger and started squeezing it just like a mouse. Thankfully he didn’t start chewing but it hurt bad

    If my humidity on mine is around 55%, and I’m not misting the enclosure…what should I do to lower it? I’ve seen I need to keep it between 40-50% ? Also, I have a heating pad, but it’s staying between 73-77 degrees, and I know I need to get a hotter corner. Should I do a heat lamp, or basking light? UVB? Thank you!

    • @JzsReptiles
      @JzsReptiles  10 місяців тому +1

      More ventilation or changing substrate that doesn’t hold as much moisture are the quickest solutions to less humidity. For basking spots at least on animals that don’t require 100+ basking spots I like to use a combo of low watt halogen bulbs and led UVA/UVB bulbs or strips on a timer. With a heat pad plugged in 24/7 that will make some good night drops

      @@JzsReptiles I just got him and fixed up his enclosure around 6pm yesterday. Does it just take time for everything to get acclimated? I don’t want to chance harming him, so that’s why I ask. Enclosure has mesh top, and bedding that was recommended is Aspen bedding. Would you change that to something different?

    • @JzsReptiles
      @JzsReptiles  10 місяців тому

      @@lmauzey24 nope. That’s what I would use or if going for a natural look a mix of cypress, play sand and top soil. After a couple days things should settle in fine, if anything you may need to add a humid hide for shedding depending on your room’s ambient humidity.

    I have a question . So I’m thinking of Adopting one I’ve had a couple of different snakes but most of them were ball pythons the snake I am going to adopt is a king snake but the owner wasn’t taking care of it as it should be ,she previously told me the snake had bitten her because she doesn’t take her out as often and she’s three years old ,was it hard for you to take care of a rescue snake for it to get used to you?

    • @JzsReptiles
      @JzsReptiles  4 роки тому +1

      Natalie Vazquez it’s not. Kings have a great feed response usually more than most pythons and that is probably why the previous owner was bitten. I have quite a few snakes that would Be considered rescues and they’re individual “personalities” are all different. If you are concerned with being bitten there are several ways to pick them up safely for you and the snake. I have a video on it on the channel if you want to check it out, but they will move much more than ball pythons so don’t worry about the faster movements. I hope that helps but if you have more questions please ask or private message me

      @JzsReptiles  3 роки тому

    • @TurkeyKillr
      @TurkeyKillr 3 роки тому +1

      Now a days brooks kings name has been over used as so many breeders use it to help with the sale. Most brooks are known to come from the southern most part of dade county. Now though it seems to be used for the color morph of a lighter variety. Florida Kings and Brooks are from the same species and are not split apart anymore. Floridana getula

    Can these breed with any king?

    • @JzsReptiles
      @JzsReptiles  4 роки тому +1

      Tal1 probably, but it would be a hybrid because they would be a different species cross, but as long as you say what the offspring is you won’t get too much hate. A lot of people don’t like hybrids

      Jz's Reptiles so a Mexican snake with it would be looked down upon?

    • @JzsReptiles
      @JzsReptiles  4 роки тому +1

      Tal1 by a lot of keepers, yes. As well as sexually mature animals of the two different species are quite different and I would be hesitant to put the much larger Brooks/Florida. Mexican Kings do naturally intergrade with desert Kings and are a little more closely related and closer in size.

    This species wouldn't be _endemic_ to Florida, if it's also found in Louisiana. Endemic means it's only found in a specific area. 90% of species in Madagascar are endemic. Idk what percentage but most of the plants and animals from New Caladonia are endemic. It's another insular region that has been seperated from mainland environments for, idk, millions of years probably, but of course you know that :)
