  • After getting home from work about an hour before the siren test today, I realized I'd have to do something fairly close. Knowing Prior Lake has been replacing their older 2001s recently, I decided to record one of the two DCs that were left, this one being in northern Prior Lake just off of Pike Lake Trl. NE. Unfortunately, the siren didn't go off, and I'm wondering if it has already been disconnected pending replacement, or if it simply isn't working. I can't say this was too much of a loss though, since the very windy day wouldn't have made for the greatest video. I still managed to catch an alright ambience, consisting of some of Prior Lake's nearby 130s and a few of Shakopee's Whelens, which I will have listed below.
As many of you know, I grew up in Prior Lake, so this system is fairly familiar to me. Even still, this was the one siren I never really went to see when I was younger, since it's so out of the way. Until the Minnesota map was created a few years ago, I never even knew this siren existed, but it is an interesting part of Prior Lake's siren history nonetheless. Prior Lake used to have a full system of pre-130 2001s, including Roundbacks, multiple generations of "DC"s and SRNs, and two SRNBs which are still present. Only two DCs remain, this one and the one at Northwood Park on the other end of town, and other than the SRNBs all other 2001s in PL have been replaced by 130s in the last couple of years.
Sirens that can be heard in this video include two 2001-130s, Mckenna & N Berens (1.1 Miles), and Crest Ave & Cedarwood St. (much quieter, 5180 Ft.) And 2-3 Whelens, Eagle Creek Elementary's WPS-2903 (5210 Ft.), A 435HZ WPS-2905 at Eagle Creek Blvd. And Portage Ln. (1.3 Mi), And potentially one or two others further away in Shakopee. The wind was blowing mostly to the east, which made sirens to the west of me sound significantly louder than those to my east or south, and I thought I heard a stray 2001 after the last Whelens wound down in Shakopee, though it sounded incredibly far away to my west and was not picked up on camera whatsoever. My best guess is that I was hearing a 2001 in Chaska, but the closest one to me would've been the downtown 130 at a whopping 8.5 miles away.
