I think it feels older in part because it owes a lot melodically (at least the "So long, you did me wrong" part) to "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells. Listen to that one and you'll definitely hear a resemblance. I mean, it's a completely different, original song with a much bluesier feel, but the melodic similarity is undeniable. And the whole song just has a timelessness to it.
