Actually there’s an argument that it did improve somewhat. The reasoning is because he was away from all the literally toxic Charlie work, which gave his brain a chance to regenerate a bit lol. As you can see the others who had to do his work while he was away all got (even) dumber

I love this part so much bc it’s delivered as if Charlie could hardly believe it at first but has come to accept that he’s a genius, even though his initial assumption is what any normal person would believe. It makes the scene so much more unhinged, brilliant writing
It's kinda touching to me that the gang went to support Charlie even though he'd changed so much, and were happy when they realized he was still himself and just found a way to write the whole thing off as a failure of the stupid science bitches

I like how they every now and then have episodes where the gang gets along and has fun. It’s not just shitting and backstabbing each other every episode

I love the subtle touch of Charlie rolling out in the very old asylum-like wheelchair with the cane webbing and (wHeary) wooden wheels. This scene is so good, one of my favs in the whole series - and it's NINE SEASONS IN!

What makes this episode even funnier is that Charlie Day and the actor for one of the two scientist guys both appeared in Pacific Rim, where they are both scientists. Makes me wonder if that movie is an alternate universe where Charlie never left the experiment lmao
