I am just about to start making a necklace for the first time. I have watched several hours of these videos and I must say that Y'all are the best! You are very informative and take the perfect amount of time when demonstrating.
Thank you SO much for explaining all these different types of seed beads!
Awesome video. Precise, relevant, informative, well presented, clear and simple. 👍👏😃
Thanks, glad to be helpful!
Very informative & wonderfully presented!
Thank you so much for your detailed and informative video! I had no idea there were so many options with seed beads. Am excited to get started with my first seed bead project :)
I fed my need to bead!!! I received my order of delica beads today and am so thrilled with them!!! I am so use to having cheap walmart and joanns beads that this was a much needed upgrade! thanks so much for providing great quality products and tutorials, especially to beginners like myself :)
Great presentation! It's such a confusing bead world out there. This was definitely a big help!
This was a fantastic video to explain the differences in seed beads! It was exactly what I was looking for!
Thankq so much for giving so much info about the various beads used n brief. I'm grateful... 🙏

Thanks a lot for the wonderful video. I was looking for this information for a long time. It was very hopeful.
I cannot say thanks enough for explaining this.
as a beader this I approve this as a very clear and concise guide to basic seed bead types. it'll be very helpful to any beginners as well as any family or close friends who want to buy an emergency bead bottle. I also really liked how you showed the difference in bead sizes between bead companies. the "standard" 11 is never quite 11, is it?
Thank u for explaining bead size..it was confusing to me as a beginner!!!
LOVE ;LOVE LOVED THIS VIDEO: THANKS SO MUCH!

Thanks for the information. I found it helpful. Can you make a video on bead storage. I am looking for storage solution that would eliminate out of site out of mind issue that I am currently facing.
Thanks
Thanks for the video suggestion, I will definitely add it to our request list. I am trying to do more videos showing overviews of the options out there so this would fit in nicely with that idea.
Thanks good information
Glad it was helpful for you! Let me know if you have any questions, we have a lot of resources for folks just starting out.
Thank you for your video I found it very useful. I have just bought some 6/0 Picasso beads for a bracelet I want to make but it calls for S-Lon thread which has to pass through the bead twice. Could you help me as I have no idea what size to ask for. Thanks again from Jean
Hello! I just came across your page and I thank you for the information! I just started making waist beads and I love the look of the smaller seed beads, as well as the "regular sized" (6). My question is, I noticed, when I make the waist beads with the colored glass seed beads, some if the colors seems to rub off a bit. Mostly the ones that are matte purple, matte red, matte green, and matte blue. The others are fine and haven't done this, like the clear, and pearlized ones you showed. Is his a normal thing to happen? Thank you!
For those that dont know AB (the white beds in this video) stands for Aurora Borealis.
Thank you for this tutorial. It explains a lot for those of us still learning. My question is about identification of beads that have a number/letter after them. For example 8.0 25F or 11.0 C or one that you showed 8.0 617. Thanks for explaining
Hi, the first part of the number is the way Toho writes size. Many beaders will say "eight oh" or "eleven oh", and it's often written as 8/0 or 11/0, but Toho often writes these sizes as 8.0 and 11.0. The second part with the letter number combinations are Toho's catalogue numbers for their bead colors. For instance 617 is their code for olive dark green. Both parts of the code together give you these beads: beadaholique.com/products/toho-round-seed-beads-8-0-617-matte-dark-olive-8-gram-tube
@@beadaholique Thank you so much for the explanation and for your tutorials. They are teaching me so many things.
Very helpful thanks!!!
Thankyou
thank you... I am a beginner... does 6/0 mean 6mm? I also like the splatter one (last beads you show, I have some in my mixture of browns)
I would guess using Czech beads would be best in a tight fit. Where a uniform bead may not fit. Is there a bead size in circumference, like an 11/0 bead but smaller, for tight area's? Thanks.
Lorraine: Hi Julie! Thank you so much for the great tutorial! Your voice is very relaxing and everything you said was very clear. Excellent video! I just have two questions. One, I'm doing crafts primarily of mermaids. I know you mentioned that a lot of crafters use the 11/0 beads. I've seen these beautiful crystal clear seed beads with silver inside. Do you happen to know the ones I'm referring to? I don't like to ask people on Etsy about them when I see them because I don't want them to think that I'm copying their work. Would you happen to know what size or type they are since there are, as you say, literally thousands of seed beads? I would really appreciate it. My second question is while I was watching your video, I saw these beautiful tiles (I think they were tiles). They were rainbow color and I believe they were on top of some black iridescent beadwork. I would have to go back and check. But they were the only ones there that weren't seed beads. Can you please tell me how I would find those tiles online and what they are called? Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for explaining all of this and showing examples. I have some seed beads that I bought years ago and never used, but I want to get some more because I only have a couple colors I want to use for a project I'm doing. I didn't realize that seed beads could have more than once finish or the difference in sizes between some of them.
I have a question about creating your own designs with seed beads - is it best to stay with the same finish for each project instead of mixing finishes? Thanks for any tips you can share about choosing finishes.
Thanks for watching our video!
There are no right or wrong answers when it comes to using different colors or finishes in the same project. Sometimes beads with different finishes will go great together and sometimes they do not. We certainly recommend experimenting with different colors and finishes.
What are the most common size beads used on earrings? Thank you so much. This video was ver informative.
We use a lot of 11/0 Toho round seed beads in our earring projects, as well as 2mm fire polish beads that are about the same size. We'll often feature 4 to 6mm bicones, rounds and pearls too . Those will stand out from the 2mm beads without adding too much weight to the earrings. Take a look at some of our recent earring projects. Here's an example using the 2mm fire polish beads, you can see they're tiny but each one stands out and sparkles: beadaholique.com/collections/beading-projects/products/california-fringe-earrings
Take a look at some of our other recent earring projects too to get a sense of what beads we're using these days, they've all got their supplies listed: beadaholique.com/collections/beading-projects?_=pf&pf_t_project_status=0-Product-Type%3AProject&pf_t_technique=0-Technique%3ABasic%20Beading&pf_t_project_type=0-Project-Type%3AEarring&pf_t_technique=0-Technique%3ABead%20Embroidery&pf_t_technique=0-Technique%3ABead%20Looming&pf_t_technique=0-Technique%3ABead%20Weaving
Usually the size number it how many are in an inch or centimeters. What ever gauge they use.

Hello! I am new to beading and trying to make some earrings. I have some old seed beads that I picked up years ago. I have no idea what size they are, but in general, can you tell me the best way to thread these beads? Do you recommend wire? If so, what gage? Thank you!
We recommend Fireline beading thread. Like this item: www.beadaholique.com/crystal-fireline-braided-beading-thread-006-in-15-yards.html
In europe size 9/0 seems to be the most common.. atleast in shops..

Would you say, for an adult beginner, you'd start with a size 10 or 11 seed bead or larger? Would you recommend the same for a 12 year old beginner?
Size 11/0s are pretty easy to work with on a needle and they're a good investment; just about any bead stitching or loom project can make good use of 11/0s. I'd also suggest some 8/0s, they're small enough to be used as an accent bead alongside the 11/0s, but large enough that they can be strung by hand and used for easier projects like macrame bracelets if your younger beginner doesn't have the patience for learning stitches yet. Take a look at our designer palette collections, they're a good way to get a few colors of 11/0s that have been handpicked to play well together: beadaholique.com/search?type=product&q=%22Designer+palette%22
Hi! I just bought some Miyuki seed beads, supposedly size 11. The shop assistant said that 11 means that 11 beads will fit into 1 inch and that's the information I got when I googled. However, when I stringed my beads up, I needed 18 beads to make 1 inch. All the beads I bought said size 11 and they are all the same size.
Another question I have is about the shape. Are Miyuki always cylinder cut? The shop assistant said all their beads were Miyuki, yet my gold beads are more rounded?
Although many different seed beads use the same size numbers, there are definitely variations between manufacturers and styles of beads. Miyuki makes a few different styles of 11/0 seed beads, the 2 most popular are "round" and "delica." It sounds like you may have the round Miyukis, which we calculate at approximately 17 per inch. Miyuki's cylinder shaped beads are the Delicas, and the 11/0 delica will have about 19 beads per inch length-wise. Just in case, we have a seed bead size chart on our site: www.beadaholique.com/beading-resources/techniques-guides/charts-diagrams/seed-bead-size-chart
Thank you for the explanation!@@beadaholique

What string is best for the 15’s?
I recommend working with a 4 lb. fireline, that should work for most applications beadaholique.com/products/fireline-braided-beading-thread-4lb-test-and-0-005-thick-50-yards-crystal-clear
What about the grams? ..how many grams do those cylinders hold?
*Thanks soo much for your video*
+CIRUS MEDIA This varies depending on the type of seed bead so you'll want to check the item's description before you buy. 8 grams is a common weight for many seed bead tubes however.
Beadaholique ok will go check it out then. Thanks
Are there any silver seed beads that do not fade?
Thanks
Olga Amador Do you mean sterling silver and are they tarnishing? From my experience, "silver" colored seed beads such as those put out by Toho and Miyuki do not have fading issues.
thank you
Hello.
What is the most suitable size of Miuki beads for brick stitch beading ?
For most of our brick stitch projects we use 11/0 Miyuki delicas. The cylindrical shape of the delicas lets the beads fit together tightly and the 11/0 size is small enough to make fine patterns but still large enough to be worked with easily. It also comes up a huge variety of colors, you can see the ones we carry here: beadaholique.com/collections/seed-beads?_=pf&pf_t_style=0-Style%3ADelica&pf_t_size=0-Size%3A11%2F0

@@nahedsalahbeads103 Sure thing, always happy to help answer questions!
Can anyone tell me which needle and threat to use with those seed beads. I love it although I am new at it. I need help please....
The needles we use most often for seed beads are these size 12 english beading needles: beadaholique.com/products/beadsmith-english-beading-needles-size-12-4-needles
As far as thread tend to use two kinds depending on the project. We like Nymo nylon thread in size D for flexible, supple things like beaded fringe or loomed bracelets: beadaholique.com/collections/nymo?_=pf&pf_t_size=0-Size%3ASize%20D&pf_t_size=0-Size%3AD
For more complex bead woven designs that need the strongest and thinest threads we use Fireline braided beading thread: beadaholique.com/products/fireline-braided-beading-thread-4lb-test-and-0-005-thick-15-yards-crystal-clear

I am quite the newbie to beading. I have been putting together a nice little collection and getting to know the different beads. However, my friend brought me some beads and the size 2/0 are unfamiliar to me. I haven't heard of any projects that call for this size. I measured them and they are 4mm x 6mm. How exactly am I to use these beads. They are very pretty and I am dying to use them. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
Many of the same techniques used with smaller seed beads can be used with 2/0 seed beads. Regrettably, we do not sell any 2/0 seed beads and we do not have tutorials available for them at this time. 2/0 seed beads are often used in knitting and fiber art. Thanks for watching!
Beadaholique Thank you so much for your reply. Was very kind.
tammie adams if you know how to do Kandi then you could use that type for Kandi bracelets If the bead is big enough to fit your string through twice.
I inherited several beads and they are out of the packages and stored in partition storage boxes. How do find out what size the beads are?
If they are seed beads the easiest way to see what size they are is to take one and compare it to another seed bead that you know the size of. For instance, if you have a tube of seed beads that says 11/0, then compare that bead to one of the unknown beads. If you have larger beads, you can use a caliper to determine the mm size.
Use Google - like the rest of the human race.
Are there any rate difference also,?
Pricing can vary between sizes, style and color. If you have any questions about pricing, feel free to contact us by email at service@beadaholique.com . Thanks for watching!
I know this is an old video but Miyuki is pronounced "MEE-you-kee", not "MAI-you-kee". Thanks for this video, it's very informative and useful but just had to chime in about Miyuki lol
So what is the difference between a Miyuki rocaille and a delica. Thanks
Rocailles are round beads, quite similar to Toho rounds. Delicas are cylindrical, with fairly flat ends that are designed to sit flush against one another
Thank You.
Beadaholique they are round
Don't the size of the beads refer to how many beads can fit in a linear inch? I thought I had heard that somewhere.
I have heard that too and I believe that that is how the sizing numbers were arrived at years ago but that does not really apply to the seed beads you get today. Just to be sure, I measured it out and 1 inch equals 18 Miyuki Delicas, size 11/0.
How many grams does 1 hank contain ?
The weight of the hanks will depend on the bead size and color. If you have a questions about a specific hank on our website, please contact our customer service team at service@beadaholique.com.
How many 15 size beads may get for 1gram
Depending on the color and the style, you get about 250-300 beads per gram.
hi what does true cut mean?
We can confirm True Cut is another name used for Charlotte cut seed beads. Thanks for watching!
Can you tell me what a rocaille bead is and what it looks like please
+Debbie Grice Usually the term rocaille bead is used when referring to a seed bead that is round in shape. In my opinion they are closest in shape to Toho seed beads. I hope this helps.
Yes it was helpful. I will use them as I use Tohos . Thanks.
Do you not carry miyuki rocailles?
We currently do not carry Miyuki Rocailles but we are always adding to our selection.
I am very new to beading and have often heard the word: 15 O beads. What does the O stand for? Is it the shape? Is it because it is shaped like an O?
It is referring to a unit of measurement. It is an aught size. An 8/o means you will have 8 beads fit in that space, and a 6/o means you will get 6 beads to fill that same amount of space. www.beadaholique.com/beading-resources/techniques-guides/charts-diagrams/seed-bead-size-chart

When comparing beads, you really should compare Miyuki Delicas with Toho Treasures and NOT - as you do - compare MD with a Toho round seed bead. I really hope it's an error on your behalf, and not a case of walking in to small shoes, because you not carrying Toho Tresures at Beadaholique.
