      I agree, too! This tutorial is exactly what I needed. My son and I are getting ready to make a bracelet for my husband for his birthday, and the part I needed was how to add fasteners to finish it off nicely. This video de-mystifies the fastener part of it for me in the minimum time but at the same time with enough repetition that it really taught me well.

      Hey Kamar, I think you're put your finger on a common theme with jewelry design here. Making sure your jewelry can open and close can often be the biggest technical challenge. Most of our projects do require tools for those steps, but we have a few recent beaded bracelet tutorials that don't require any sort of pliers or special clasps. Take a look as these two:
      This stretch bracelet can make without the glue and even without a needle if you're patient: ua-cam.com/video/tQB-TCgvnYE/v-deo.html
      And if you're game to learn a bit of knotting you can do a lot with just sliding knots and cord: ua-cam.com/video/fNKcAbB9DME/v-deo.html

      If you want to using beading wire and crimp beads, you will really need crimping pliers. There are 4 basic tools that are great to have if you are starting out and they will let you make most projects: Crimping Plier, Cutter, and 2 pairs of Chain Nose Pliers. With those four tools, you can make most projects.

    I liked the idea of using beading wire because it is said to be stronger and more permanent than string or stretch cord.Crimps, however, are very finicky. Even when using the right sized beading wire with the right sized crimp and the right sized crimping tool and making sure the wire is not on top of each other, but rather beside each other in the crimp, I find when folded over and tugged, the crimp slides, and if flattened more, it breaks. Or all could be good, but then it opens when you put the crimp cover on. The camera shot is great and the tip about making sure the side of the jump ring matching when attaching to the other end is great, but this technique of crimping with fold over is too chancey for me to want to give this away as a gift. Crimping without the foldover is somewhat sturdier, in my experience but recently I used clam shells so I wouldn't have to fold over to fit under a tiny crimp cover, but when I gave a good tug, it all fell apart. The crimp beads I used were made of brass, if that has anything to do with it??

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  8 місяців тому

      Hello! Yes, it could very well be that it's the crimp beads you are using that are the issue and not your technique. One of my most frustrating experiences was learning to crimp crimp beads and after many, many tears, I realized I was using a crimp bead that was inferior and cheaply made. I was just starting out in jewelry making and had no idea. Once I bought a better crimp bead, I suddenly had success and my crimps held. Personally, I also find that crimp tubes work better than round crimp beads.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 роки тому

      We used a chain nose plier and a bent chain nose plier in the video because those small rounded ends are helpful for opening small jump rings. You can use a pair of flat nosed pliers, the smaller jump rings attaching the strands will just be a bit frustrating to open.

      The lobster clasp you mean, that opens and closes the bracelet? You can put on regular pliers. If you mean the crimp tubes that crimp the ends of the wire strands , no a regular set of pliers won't do the the job, you definitely want some crimp pliers. I really enjoyed how you teach how to close off, but I have one question do you have to use closed jump rings?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 роки тому +1

      We use a close those small 4mm closed jump rings to join the strands to a larger open jump ring because it adds strength to the clasp. The ends of those strands are so small that they might work their way through the gap of an open jump ring or be yanked through. The smaller closed jump ring also helps taper the clasp from narrow to large. You can try an open jump ring instead and see how it feels for you. For us it was a little too insecure.

      Have you tried looking at other crimping pliers? This 0.015 inch (0.38mm) wire is definitely on the small side, it can be frustrating. What we've found makes the biggest difference with challenging crimp jobs is what pliers we're using. One of the reasons we like the Xuron 4-in-1s we use in this video so much is the notch. That V shape fits the crimp to the wire in a way that we've found to be more reliable then the usual U or bean shaped notches. You can take a look at them here: beadaholique.com/products/xuron-4-in-1-crimping-pliers-works-on-1-2-and-3mm-crimps

      What we usually recommend for sizing bracelets like this is to take a piece of string, wrap it around your wrist to the level of tightness you want for the bracelet, and then measure the string. For a 3 strand bracelet you can multiply that length by 3.

      If you're just getting started with jewelry making and looking for a good starter pair of cutters we've also done a lot of good work with these less expensive Xuron flush cutters: beadaholique.com/products/sharp-flush-cutter-pliers-for-cutting-beading-wire-1-piece

    good job but when the video starts you already have the strings beaded. What is the length??? please. would be nice if you could show it from start to finish for visual learners.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 роки тому +1

      The starting length for the wires is 12 inches a piece. We've also got the pattern written up in the project page's instruction section here: beadaholique.com/products/beaded-friendship-bracelet
      Sorry about the shortcut, we're all visual learners here too. Most of the time we do full beginning to end tutorials, but sometimes with classic designs like this we experiment with skipping ahead a bit. The consensus in the comments here is that we should keep doing full length videos though, and so we shall 😅

    Hi Kat. As usual, I have a question for you. I'd like to know if this same process would work using more strands, 4 perhaps? I'll be watching out for a reply, if not from Kat, maybe one of you ladies (or gents) would answer my question. Thanks for this informative video and to those of you taking the time to read this. 😊

      You can certainly add more strands if you like by repeating the techniques in the video. You may just need a slightly larger jump ring at each end to accommodate more strands. Thanks for watching!

    Can you do how to just make one bracelet?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  4 роки тому +1

      This style of bracelet is pretty versatile. Each strand is separate and not connected to the other, so to make a single strand version of the bracelet you don't have to do anything special. You can follow these instructions using the same size of jump rings and crimp bead tubes, all you need to do is not make the second strand. Here's our project page for the bracelet, it's got more information and photos of the bracelet where you can get a better look at the separate strands: beadaholique.com/products/beaded-friendship-bracelet

      Hi Cherie, sorry this video's not working for you. We try to strike the right balance between teaching new techniques and recapping the fundamentals in all of these videos but we don't alway get it right. Let me know if there's anything I can help make clearer. Here's an earlier video of ours that focuses entirely on crimping with the Xuron 4-in-1 pliers, it might be easier to learn from ua-cam.com/video/---E_KBRrlI/v-deo.html

      No worries. Crimping can absolutely be a frustrating topic. It's never as easy to do or as easy to demonstrate as we'd like. Let know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help.
