Me encanta el vídeo, Lara, y tus explicaciones sobre las correctas posturas son muy claritas!!! Voy a ver si consigo hacerlo con tu ayuda, aunque me falta mucha flexibilidad... OMG Besos para toda la familia
This has the clearest and simplest instructions for sun salutations of all the videos I've seen on UA-cam! Thanks so much for this! I look forward to seeing more videos!
This was an excellent Sun Salutations video, with good production value. *Little details that one might add are: fingers together in mountain, thumbs face each other (palms up) in standing back bend, shin flat/toe points back on lunges, the arms extend straight forward when coming from forward bend to final back bend, in the Swami Vishnu-Devananda Sivananda lineage.
Thank you - those are all great suggestions but also merely aesthetics, meaning they won't change the effectiveness of the practice or cause injury if not performed, always important to keep in mind
Thank you! I plan to finish this Sivananda series soon - life’s gotten in the way but hopefully I can start filming again in September and take it from there ❤️
That's great news! I completed TTC in January at the Sivananda ashram in the Bahamas. I was lucky enough to be there for the 50th anniversary of the ashram. I just started teaching recently but i'm struggling a little bit to be honest. Your videos are very helpful! I appreciate the way you explain the asanas. You have a real gift! I hope you continue to share it with the world ❤️
Jimmy O'Connor oh congrats on completing your TTC!! I didn’t train directly in a Sivananda Ashram for a variety of reasons that I had no control over, but I think I ended up with the next best thing, as my Ashram was very inspired by the Sivananda tradition. I did my TTC with Arhanta Yoga Ashram in India in early 2011. I can completely relate to the struggle of being a beginner teacher! Sometimes I feel like when I finally started teaching, in early 2013, I had no idea what I was doing. Of course, you have everything you’ve learned at TTC and you are always trying your best, but there’re lots of things that come only from observation of your actual students and experience. So don’t be afraid - own both your knowledge and your lack thereof, we all start somewhere and none of us knows everything. Stay in touch! 🙏🏻🕉
Thank you for the encouragement! I deeply appreciate it!! I will need it as I teach tomorrow night. Confidence can be so elusive but I'm hoping it will come with time. I am lucky because the place is really small with only a few students. I just have to have faith and trust in what i've been thought. Om Namah Shivaya. Thank You!❤️
Very good explanation, I have an additional question. When you are going from downward facing dog to equestrian pose what is your suggestion to modify if the person can’t reach the foot between the hands and the farthest it gets is about the half space between the legs and the hands?
I generally recommend people actually use their hands to grab the foot and bring it forward. This, as a first step if that movement is inaccessible. Then, work on improving tay accessibility - planks, mountain climbers, core strength all should help improve that eventually. This is quite a broad answer I know, but I hope it makes sense!
Hey there! Happy you enjoyed the explanation. As for "lotus pose" sequence, you mean a sequence to prepare for actual full lotus, right? :) If you have knee pain, full lotus may be a bit tough to get to, but you can definitely work on it. I will try to start uploading again soon, so please stay tuned! You can also follow me on Instagram (@mintyogini) for more regular updates!
Brilliant lessons for beginners like myself!! Think it's too challenging, if not impossible for beginners to move the foot between you arms from Downward facing dog to Equestrian pose. Is it advisable to bring that leg as much as you can and help it by using your hand??
Yes! This is actually how I was taught, if your foot won't come all the way to the front, bring it as far as you can, then help yourself with your hand. Separately, I'd recommend core strengthening planks (i.e. holding your plank, bringing one knee to the chest or to touch the elbow on the same side, etc) in order to eventually transition smoothly :)
Very good, I have been longing to try this, your explanation is perfect. I am 59, started yoga eight months ago, I have difficulty getting from downward facing dog to low lunge with one swoop of the leg. I feel awkward, any suggestions please. 💖
Congratulations on starting your yoga practice! :) Yes, getting from downward facing dog to low lunge in one swoop can be tricky and requires a fair amount of core control. In the beginning, it's okay to use your hand to actually grab your ankle and bring the foot forward, meaning, step forward as much as possible, and then use your hand to bring the foot front all the way. Alongside this, working on planks and bringing the knee to the chest in planks can help strengthen your core and increase your range of movement for this particular transition. Hope it makes sense!
The possibility always exist to modify the sequence, yes. I wouldn’t say there’s “one” variant for beginners, but rather that it can be adapted depending on the individual. I’ll consider making a “beginner version” sun salutation 😀 If you let me know specifically what you found hardest, I’ll make sure to address it!
I thought that in the classical sun sal there is no back arch in standing pose, and that the head should be in front of the the arms that are raised up to the sky.
NeverCryWolf64 it really depends on what school you learn from. We were taught to arch (now, how much you arch will depend on your particular anatomy) As for the head, people with low or high blood pressure, or vertigo problems, shouldn’t drop it. I personally don’t have this issue.
Hi, nice tutorial :) I would like to know from where did you get the mat that you practice on in this video? Any link or brand name would be helpful. I am from India. Thanks.
And just in case! The green mat I use on the other videos is a Manduka Pro mat, that color was limited edition but they have many other great quality mats at Manduka.com
Thanks so much! I really hope I can continue to post the remaining tutorials soon... sometimes life can really get ahead of us! I appreciate your support. Also, neither of the mats I use has a strong rubber smell. The liforme smells a little bit, but nothing too crazy, and it goes away with time. I never felt any smell on the Manduka mat.
Great video, very useful. I will start practicing from today. Thankyou 🙏🧘♂️🧗♂️

Ya me contarás :) La flexibilidad ni es necesaria para la práctica de yoga, ni es el objetivo final, sino un subproducto. Disfruta de tu práctica
It's the best explanation I've watched so far.

Avanish Tiwary this pink mat is a Liforme (available on Liforme.com, but I am not sure they ship to India - check with them!)
And just in case! The green mat I use on the other videos is a Manduka Pro mat, that color was limited edition but they have many other great quality mats at Manduka.com
