Just to show how relevant this video this; thank you for posting this. Like many other Altima owners, this is now on my immediate todo list for my car. All the other videos under "2014 Nissan Altima Catalytic Converter replacement" show numerous entries to replace the manifold in the front of the engine, not the actual converter. Thank you for making this, THIS answered my question of how to replace this on my car.

just wanted to let you know i had the same experience with my searches and after seeing this video i decided to call a nissan dealership. they confirmed there are 2 catalytic converters on the 2014 nissan altima. bank 1 is connected to the exhaust manifold. bank 2 is the one replaced in this video.

That is insane that someone, even a customer, would accuse a shop of a faulty air compressor for causing rust in their wheel. In a day and age when free air compressors at gas stations or shops are disappearing like public phone booths, these kinds of low life people are ruining it for the rest of us. Eric O. May not want to have that air pump accessible anymore to the public because of this complaint so we all have to suffer because one bad apple spoils the bunch. Atleast Eric O. Remained professional with the individual and stood his ground. He even took time to show the individual his water separator to prove that his unit was in top working order. Thats what separates SMA and Eric O. From other facilities. He handled the inquiry with dignity. Great job Eric O.

This has become my favorite show to watch now !
Just did a converter on 1.6 l chivvy..............grinding, cutting, snap on impact gun, the quick disconnect cleaning wheels....everything !
I just cut off and ground down the exhaust manifold studs.......center punched and drilled about a sixteenth and blasted em out with the old nasty snap on impact hammer gun and pointed tip.
I'll put nuts, bolt's, lock washers.
Same problem though.........all that honeycomb material just decided to wad up and clog the outlet !
I think I like your show so much because of the misery loves company thing ?
I'm also jealous of all the sissy electronic boxes though.........
    I used to have a big box......Sun interrogator !
Man have things changed, love the Bluetooth, Aultel, Pico and relative compression hookup bluetooth !
Keep up the good work !
Your also doing an amazing job filming !
You could use a soundproof studio for some jobs, several cameras and cameraman, lighting, better borescope capability, editing on the fly etc.
    But you know what ?
It's excellent just the way it is !
And, your a good actor and a funny comedian..........
    For mechanics, I guess ?

60 years ago I worked in a Union 76 station/garage, in Pasadena, California. We had an elderly lady customer that the owner had known for 30 years, who once a year made an appointment to "have her automobile serviced", and insisted on having the air changed in all 5 tires. We changed it every single year that I worked there. The car, I think was a Rolls Royce from the 1920's. She was a retired silent movie star. Nice lady, used to come in every week to buy never more than 5 gallons of gas, and spend about 2 hours talking about the old days. I think she was Miss Daisy, before I saw the movie!

Thank the lord for a shop having an air hose for folks to use free of charge. Reminds me of the 60's & 70's when all filling stations had an air hose and water on both ends of the pump islands. It's really amazing how the self-service idea ever got here because most gas stations had a garage stall or two and that service at the pumps would bring in vehicle repairs. Maybe for today's shops that are worthy should go back to the idea. Provide compressed air and water for those folks on the road so they get familiar with the shop's location etc. Same thing when you used to get a couple bags of ice when you bought items at the liquor stores. Now they want to profit off of it or no ice.

I would also recommend for those out there doing this to replace the front cat at the same time, the 2.5 was known for the front cat to disintegrate and the debris gets sucked back into the motor as well as clogging the rear cat and o2s. From looking online they usually go out at about every 60k miles and it is pretty common.

    • @sublime2craig
      @sublime2craig 4 роки тому +1

Yes this is true, the 2009-2016 Nissan car models have a problem with the CATs going out way earlier then they should. Replaced both on my 2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 (QR25DE) at 105k and replaced both on my 2012 Versa 1.6 at 120k. Luckily mine lasted a while but have seen other owners have to replace much earlier at around 40-60k. Read on forums that the problem is a Lame ECU that causes the engine to run rich and it burns out the CATs. Also problems with bad welds that cause exhaust leaks and this can damage the CATs.

After banging around on the cats, should you start it it and get rid of junk that might flow into the cats after replacement? I used to do that as a backyard mechanic....

It's definitely different to see the rust you have to deal with over there. Here in California that pipe wouldn't normally rust out in the life of the car.

    Great video....
Curious....with all the cheap CATs out there.....are there brands you recommend that work decent, and don't reset the dreaded P0420.
Seems to be there's an awful lot of them out there on the market that are made in Canada.

You mention throwing o2 sensor codes after taking them out; I have a 1996 Chevy c1500 and took out the y pipe to have a friend do something for me (Lets say it would be illegal in your state). After putting everything back on, it surely did throw a o2 heater code. By the way, do not buy o2 sensors at a junkyard. Also, spark plug non foulers do work for keeping the CEL off, in case you were wondering.

Gotta love that salt belt crust. Still have my wife's old car from when she lived in Illinois. It's a nightmare! A GM product and from the rust belt.

Eric, on the 'cheap' roll discs I just pop a drop of the 'ol Loctite 406 on the back & they're good to go! I've had them fly off down the driveway at a gabillion miles an hour!

Let me get this straight , He used bad air on 3 of the 4 rims because they had leaks in the tires but all 4 rims need to be changed , So the 4th tire/rim was effected by a air transfer leak from the front axle to the rear axle via a solid steel conduit ?
