May i ask you which bramd was the catalytic? I am about to install one in my car also from rockauto(eastern catalytic) and i am wondering if the heatshield holes line up. Great video keep it up
Rock auto it was the California emission and yes they did line up but the bolts will probably break so they did come with new bolts as well.
Great fit surprisingly!!
Hey juan how did the part work out for you ?
i too just purchased that Eastern Catalytic Eco 3 for a 2012 nissan altima 2.5s, about to install it. Wondering how it worked out for you???
if i remember... ill post back with my results lol : )
@@velvet_veneer87 did that brand work out okay?
God BLESS you child for this VIDEO lol. Seriously, I was quoted $1900 for this job on my 08 Rogue but this video makes it easy to dive in. Got all my bolts soaking in PB blaster and broke them a little so they wouldn't be so hard to remove. Now all i'm waiting for is the convertor, belt, and 02 sensors to come in. Thanks a BUNCH man....damn I REALLY appreciate this!!!!!
glad i could help .
Excellent presentation. I've replaced the manifold/pre-cat on my s005 Nissan Altima twice already due to the out shell developing cracks and leaking. Now I am having the same issue once again with the third one that has been on the car for about seven years now. This time I am going to remove it and braze the crack to seal it.
thanks for the information. this saves me over 1500. Nissan wanted 1850.00
I tell you this much. anyone DIY , go ahead and replace the coolant hose and thermoset while you have all this wide open . no fun to go back after all this BS
I wouldn't recommend any aftermarket converter to be honest. The light most likely will be back on on a year
excellent video showing all the steps. I was going to start on my repairs today but I don't have the gaskets so I'll do it next week. for sure it will take longer that you did because you are the pro here. Good tip on the old behind the alternator. I would have go crazy looking the extra bold. All the best for you buddy. Thanks for the video.
one of the best detailed video's about a catalytic converter
thank you so much
TOTALLY agree. Nice, precise, and to the point.
Very nice video. Great job with the narration, and camera placement and making it look easy.
+Ken Hamilton thank you im still trying to learn to get better on camera and setting good angles . Any input helps if you have any?
I can agree to all of this. I was watching this video like a movie. EVERY noise source in the house was SILENT!
I think this is the ONE part I haven't had to replace yet. I'm starting to watch these videos just for future reference. Go Nissan!
Thank you for the detailed video you made. More power💪🇺🇸
You bet
Excellent video! It amazes me the high quality of video you are able to put out so soon.
I'm actually using a $ 220 cam corder off amazon it's actually pretty good thanks for the feedback
Excuse me, sir. I just bought a 06 Nissan 350z because my 2010 Altimas catalyitic converter was throwing a code and couldn't pass emissions.
I have searched and searched on where the catylitic converter is so I could remove and clean it. I was under the impression that mine was welded on.
I can't say that you've saved me money. But you probably just made me some. Thank you.
Awesome video thank you!!!
cool channel, very technical and informative
Appreciate the support and feedback.
You did a great job.💯💯💯
Thank you! 🤗
yes this video was very helpful thank you
Your very welcome
Great job...man...
Excellent job bro.
Thank you
Good work
This is exactly what I need done! Worried about the labor costs! Wish I had someone who could help me!!
I know this is late but here in PA the labor was 2 hrs at $100/hr so $200 total for installation. May help others out who are curious about installation cost.
Awesome video dude!
Thanks!
Watching this getting ready to do my 2006 today. Looks pretty similar
pretty easy right
@@410AutoTech yes it was. The hard part was getting the Chinese cat to fit correctly. Somebody was drunk when they welded that like a child made it. I guess that’s what I get for going cheap
Ha, my '08 Sentra had that broken ring on the exhaust flex pipe too. Took me the longest time to figure out were the mysterious jingling sound was coming from until I cut it off.
This was a great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Damn good job my brother no ?s needed...thanks
Appreciate it !!
Great video
+Amber Woodlee thank you
I changed mine last week...ran same..than I changed 02 and it's all good..kinda wish I would have just changed 02 first..since cat still looked good inside to me...maybe theirs a good way to clean cat since its off.thanks for sharing
Thanks for the video 👍🏻
Thank you
Good job
Thanks for sharing
Not a problem
I just did this on a 2013 Altima. Mostly everything is identical, except the tensioner which is a Dayco No Slack Automatic Tensioner, it requires a 17mm socket.
That's awesome hopefully I was able to help in anyway!!

I had some work recently done, it was more related to the bracket mount of the converter. Luckily the converter was ok.
That's good to hear that the converter was okay.
@@410AutoTech before replacing did the bad catalytic converter on your Altima did the converter make a noise or rattle during acceleration?
@@cedricmiller4370 mine does.
Is the bottom flange of the catalytic converter touching the bottom of the transmission?
Hey man nice vid! Mind giving a link for a 2012 Nissan Altima ? Nit to sure which one to get
This 1 from rock auto parts worked well for me didnt have any real issue with it.
Well done, is that the precat you removed or the main one ?
freestyle music in the background 🥳🤖
I have mixed feeling about the aftermarket gasket, you have luck with no come backs? The shim gaskets are like lifetime in comparison o the aftermarket
Nope hasnt came back for exhaust leak . I always go oem but cant complain much on this converter
410 Auto Tech parts logic is indifferent at best. I'm sure those aftermarket gaskets work just fine, im not being pc😂
To offer context, im sure you had OEM parts NOT work lol. If OEM parts was a things, you wouldn't be replacing this
@@410AutoTech a guy in another video was saying you should always just re-use the original metal gasket because he has a lot of experience doing this repair and the new ones just cause problems. Why not just reuse the original? Is it often unusable?
I just want you to know that is a perfect demonstration of changing a Cadillac converter on an Altima. Just wondering are you in the United States.
One thing I picked up on was you called the sensor an 02. It is actually a AF sensor on the Altima upstream.
Appreciate the input. I work on Chevrolets and we call them o2s. Just use to it lol
@@410AutoTech I hear you. Some would see that and purchase the wrong part then be lost.
After installing new cat the po420 code will be disapear automatically or do we have to remove that code using some kind of device 🤔
Remove it with a scanner.
I’m needing one for a 2012 Nissan Altima
That’s wasn’t as bad as I was thinking before
Does manufacturing date matter when choosing a cat converter?
okay so i have a 2015 nissan altima. my check engine light came on so i went to an auto parts store to scan it. i don’t remember the code # but she printed the paper and explained to me how people have replaced the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensor which fixed the problem. the only problem is i keep seeing a rear and a front on rock auto and i have no idea which one i need to get or how to see in my car which one needs to be replaced. are they the same thing? or what do you suggest?
have you gotten it fixed and what was the result . sorry i took some time away from youtube , sorry
I’ve had multiple failures this will be my 4th cat in 3 years any ideas on what it could be. 1sr one Ebay, 2nd one Ebay replaced 3rd local shop now the engine light is on and that familiar smell is back.
Possible mechanical issue or due to after market converter just not up to par with OEM. It's hard to say without hands on diagnosis.
Thanks AT I hate to put the the old girl down. I’m gonna try this OEM and maybe replace the mass flow set up along with a tune up and I’m done with her.
Can you tell me what type of flange gasket you’re using on this where the pipe connects to the manifold?
I don't have a part number , it was all in the box with the converter.
410 Auto Tech thanks anyway man, I’ve got a leak myself but I wanna replace that gasket before I buy a whole new manifold bc I’m hoping my manifold is still good honestly. I just bought some mufflers and want that fixed or the money I spent will be pointless right now
xd godly xd doubt you still need it but Nissan part number for the flange gasket is 20691-19u00
Jasson Simental yeah no found it man and everything turned out good but thank you anyway 🙏🏽
Nice video! What was the problem cracked or was it for a code?
It had a p0420 code and it started to break apart internally.
Guess I should of finished the video lol commented mid video
So the only problem was it pulled a code? My nissan sounds like a diesel truck and trying to figure the problem out. I guess exhaust leak
@@fathertime5680 I replaced it due to the code and you could see it was starting to come apart. She also had an exhaust leak from the rear muffler.
@@410AutoTech what exactly will a bad catalytic converter do to your car ? I have a 2016 Altima gave me that code and every since my car start losing power steering wheels locks up the brakes also . & abs pops up let it set for a while and then drives fine
Out of curiosity what caused the failure? I am just curious if you happen to know, for future reasons etc.
Set a p0420 code and with data reading from o2 sensors figured internal issue with converter. Removed converter found some internal deterioration. Replaced converter and it's been 10k miles since, an has had No issues since .
@@410AutoTech crazy, you do a really great job filming your repair work man!
What brand cat was used, thinking about buying one from rock auto
From rock auto and it was the California emissions 1. Around 300 for it I believe??
do you have a video for the back converter?
No I don't I'm sorry
Would a P2423 code necessarily mean the front catalytic converter is bad, or could it be something else?
definitely could be something else
Are catalyst from autozone or o'Reilly any good? I have a 2008 Nissan Sentra 2.0 and my mechanic said it would cost me $1,200 plus labor but on o'Reilly the parts are $500. Help....
I honestly wouldn't buy it from those places. I always recommend replacing converters with factory ones. They cost alot more but are specifically designed for the vehicle. I honestly don't like any aftermarket converters. I hate for the light to come back on for you within a year.
@@410AutoTech so, I should get it from the dealership? Or is there a website that sells dealership quality parts?
I have a 2014 Nissan Altima I'm looking to replace mines whats a good brand from rockauto and how many converter is on the Altima and do i half to replace my o2 sensor to
I always recommend to replace it at the same time so you dont have to turn around and do it after the fact and struggle later.
I went with the California emission converter from rock auto working great
@@410AutoTech please help how many o2 sensors and catalyst converts on a 2014 nissan Altima 4 cylinder sedan. Please help.
This is the first video I’m checking out (just starting my research) because a mechanic I was talking to said the studder in my (06) Altima may be caused by blockage in the catalytic converter. He told me they usually get gunked up and all you typically have to do is take them off and break up the gunk, shake it out and it should blow the rest out and start breathing. Does this sound correct to you…? Also, MD mechanic? (Born and raised outside of Baltimore)
That definitely not what you do lol. But yes I'm in Maryland
If your cat is gunked up I don't think there is too much you can do to clean it out. The monolith inside is a delicate ceramic material that can get damaged easily if you aren't careful.
Is this the same for the 2010 Altima hybrid looks like I have a leak
Looks similar but I'm not too familiar with hybrid altima
Idk

Hello. Thanks for your videos. I have the same car. Everytime I look something for my car your videos show up. I have the check engine light on. The mechanic checked the error code and told me that the code is about the upper catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor on it. However the car has no problem when running. I guess when you have a faulthy sensor you should have other problems or symptoms. The car has 103.000 miles. Do you think the problem is the catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor? Thx
Sometimes you won't notice a big difference when a check engine light pops up even when a p0420 for efficiency on a converter pops up you still may not feel a difference

If you hit those old heat shield bolts with torch they will not snap off and can be re used ..
Can u do a video replacing the catalytic on 2014 sentra
I will certainly do asap if I get a Sentra that needs a converter

Wanna do mine? 🤪
Millions of dollars are spent engineering that car. while not perfect, torque specs are essential for proper mechanicing of that car
Can you replace the catalytic converter without removing the belt next to it?
I think you can definitely try
Did you have to remove the alternator to take it out?
You do have to remove the alternator which is more time consuming. If you didn't this job would be a piece of cake...
About how much does this cost to repair ? My check engine light just turned on and it's giving me the error that the catalytic converter, I have a 2013 Altima.
All depends if it needs a converter and which way you go for a converter, aftermarket or factory converter. It could be 800 up to 2000 to be honest. It all depends which route you take.

What is being replaced is Bank 1 & the one underneath is Bank 2. The faulty code should tell you exactly which Bank is defective. For example, "Code P0420 catalytic efficiency below threshold (Bank 1)"

It was around 100 k I believe
Can anyone help me please, I'm have to buy a new catalytic converter for my 2016 Nissan Altima. I dont no which one to order????
Shouldn't matter too much. Whats wrong with the one you have on the car?
Your going to need to know what size engine you have and if you have California emission or not
is it the same for a 2008 nissan sentra?
The same process? Or the converter
Why didn't you just loosen the alternator and pull it forward, and use a ratchet wrench on the manifold bolt behind it?
Never done one before. Was a learning experience
Hey I have the same car and mine needs replacing as well. Is this job really a thousand dollar job? I see the part for about $150.
I have code p2423
@@jamilamckee5411 I always recommend OEM factory parts first but its definitely pricey for a factory part which usually around 1k for the part and possibly 2 or 3 hour job .
Yea I definitely don’t have 1k for that part. Only plaid 3k for the car. I’ll try my luck with a higher priced one. But not too pricey.
@@jamilamckee5411 got same code was it the catylic converter???
Do you know what a decent price is for the manifold? I've seen some for $400 and some for $98.
For this vehicle I bought it off rock auto parts for about I think $300 ish give or take ?
I think around $ 400 a decent price o wouldnt really trust the $98 one just my opinion
For the record, an eBay convertor is like $150, but an OEM is $1,000. Are the eBays ones bad or what? I've already changed the coils and don't really drive hard but do drive 75 miles a day for work. Won't that mileage help burn the new convertor in? What I mean is won't that daily mileage help extend the life of the convertor?
I would never truly recommend anything but oem when it comes to converters. Aftermarket one always fail within 6 months to 2 years
