I'm a little disappointed. This movie is called Alien, but I have yet to see any actual aliens. A moment ago I saw the petrified remains of an alien. There was also this crab like creature that latched onto the guy's face, but that just withered up and died. They just left the planet a while ago, so I guess we won't be seeing any more aliens. What a let down...

The Cappening Channel agreed on that, the place where the eggs are is way too enormous for that scene to be a sort of cargo hold area aboard a ship... But then again, that would make it a grand wonder how could such a ship be so vastly huge in one section of it... The cave direction underneath the derelict ship does make it even more sinister of also wondering what unknown beings are doing and plotting here. Mysteries and "What the F... Is this?" Is what made this movie and probably today, the most outstanding Sci-Fi horror film of all time.

The tone, the setting, the mood, the atmosphere, the suspense, the horror, and the mystery of the unknown... True to real life situations and Human behavior... MrRocksW Agreed. I think the problem with too many modern movies (like Prometheus) is that they try to *explain* stories that were told better in your own imagination. Like the Star Wars prequels. Vader’s corruption was way better told in the line “A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights. He betrayed and murdered your father. Now the Jedi are all but extinct...”

This is quite literally my favorite movie of all time, having seen it for what feels hundreds of times, and I STILL jump when the chestburster attacks. What keeps me watching is the world-building; the set design; the Hitchcockian pacing and coy approach to gore; the convincing acting by a relatively older cast, which lends a certain texture; the bellyaching of the blue-collar workers on a fucking SPACESHIP; the slithering, insinuating nature of the alien and its life cycle, full of sexual symbolism; and the absolutely iconic final sequence with Sigourney Weaver singing softly to herself in a spacesuit, like some of us when we find a cockroach in our bedroom.
There is nothing quite like Alien. I think it should be re-released in theatres annually, so that younger generations can see what all the fuss is about, in an environment where they can't press pause., or turn the lights on, or escape to their phones. They might find it cheesy, sure. Or they might be scared out of their wits. Either way, it will be an experience.
[Edit for those who don't know: The gooey muslce-y bit inside the egg was a chicken breast, and the fluttering inside the egg ("It seems to have life...") was director Ridley Scott moving his hands behind the gooey alien eggshell.

I imagine that the Facehugger's entire life span as soon as it springs into action is one giant orgasm. Once it starts, it doesn't stop until it reaches the climax, then dies (after laying its xeno goo into the host). The fact that it has the undertone of sexaul intercouse makes the Alien creature utterly horrifying.

all the creativ mysterious complexity and simplicity of the derelict ship scene is what fictional storytelling is all about... you give a million ideas of intriguing stories to the audience by only showing them the ending... what happened to this ship and the pilot before this was always a topic of great interest to me growing up, right until prometheus came out

Avid fan since I saw it at the Dome theater in Sactown, Ca 5th grade when it first released. In fact I recall that Kane was holding a small alloy tool. Anyway, some questions over the years; wonder about the complexity for Dallas rescuing Kane. That hoist and cable has to handle over 500 pds no prob. and how did Dallas retrieve him 3rows deep without tripping another egg to wake? I used to think the blue beam was a trigger for eggs to know "it's facetime!" Although I love Aliens too, it did a lot to eliminate all the complexities of the original egg system for me.

    • @octobeard4946

I have two theories theory 1: there are 3 more engineers in cryosleep in Prometheus one of two things happened either he got out and was already infected by the facehugger or at some point got infect on its way and the engineer knew this so he went to a different military research planet and let out the distress signal and it was too late he hatched and the xenomorph grew and it grew till it became a queen and it started to lay eggs and boom
Theory 2: this was David's doing he secretly let a facehugger onto a sleeping engineer got him infected and the engineer in a panic took off or tried to take off but it was too late and the chestburster got the better of him
