awesome video! there is also a record which I think is rarely mentioned but is one of the best death metal records IMHO: Disincarnate "Dreams Of Carrion Kind" where Murphy recorded majority of the guitar tracks including bass.
TheSuffocater Two of the best Death Metal albums. Heard Spiritual Healing when it first came out. Instant Death Metal fan. James Murphy: Best lead guitar shredder in Death Metal. Excellent shredding on this video. Future mash-up: Napalm Death: Harmony Corruption/ Deicide: Deicide
Honestly those are two of the best and most important Death Metal albums of all time. I have no idea why Spiritual Healing often gets ranked quite low in the Death discography. It is an absolute brutal record from start to finish, and the title track is an absolute ripper. Cause of Death is also an fantastic, just raw and pure death metal album. It would be so hard to choose between these two iconic albums, but I think I’d go with Cause of Death, just because I think the riffs are a little bit more catchy and heavier in the way they sound. Cheers 🤘🏼
Yo tenía 16 años cuando escuché el Lp "Leprosy". Nunca había oído tanta Disciplina, Sincronización, Control Absoluto del Doble Bombo de la Batería...era Increíble. Un Saludo desde Barcelona, España.
1990 was a great year for rock/metal. Rust In Peace, Cowboys From Hell, Souls Of Black, Painkiller, Passion & Warfare, Facelift, Seasons In The Abyss, Frizzle Fry.....they just don't make 'em like that anymore.
I give it to spiritual healing when you take into context the lyrics and the overall messages of each song. While I agree Cause of Death hits a little harder, Spiritual Healing hits topics that are insanely personal to me as someone who grew up with evangelical family. We used to pray around the TV when benny hinn would come on. The things Chuck wrote in that album changed my entire life.
That tapping riff at the start of spiritual healing is earth shattering. Damn Chuck was a genius. While I still consider Eddie the king of tapping I love Chucks more laid back tapping style. Also love the tapping riff in crystal mountain.
I don't think Chuck was satisfied with that album, during touring he quit and gone to record Human with new members and really created a Masterpiece 🤘🏻
Spiritual Healing for it's creativity and progressive tendencies, Cause of Death for pure caveman heaviness. I prefer Death overall. Also, you nailed the Spiritual Healing tone! 🤘
My favorite death metal albums of all time. Both have James Murphy and his beautiful solos. It's amazing to see guitarists pay homage to classic death metal bands and metal bands, in general. Superb playing sir🤘🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for paying homage to both these crushing albums. Your tone on these riffs is spot on. "Spiritual Healing" got mixed reviews, but make no mistake it slays all day now and forever. "Cause of Death" will forever go down in the collection of "one of the best of death metal albums of all time".
100% without a doubt. And thats saying something because Death fills up every other slot lmfao. Jokes aside, I think there is room for a Morbid Angel or Bolt Thrower album too.
I cannot imagine Death Metal without either of these albums. A highlight for me on the Death album is the opening riff to the title track ("Spiritual healing") but Obituary shine with their heaviness on "Turned inside out".
I'm always impressed by the sound that Trevor Perez can get out of a Fender Stratocaster. Anyway, I got to see these two bands TOGETHER in 1994 along with an up and coming band called Cannibal Corpse.
We thank you, my dear, for this great work that you are doing, and for writing the names of the teams, as you have introduced us to many important bands
Literally lying here watching this video smiling my face off just remembering the good old days long ago going to live shows!!. And I had some good times back in the day!!! Thank you so much for making these videos it's absolutely a pleasure and your totally shredding f****** awesome!!
Dude, that guitar tone is fucking BRUTAL! Not too mention some of the heaviest and brutalist riffs ever written in the history of music! 10/10 brother!
@@vacantplanet why would you quit because of how someone else plays, comparing yourself to professional musicians when you are just learning is never going to be good for your confidence, takes alot of time to get really good at guitar, besides that there's alot more than technicality, playing guitar is about expressing yourself not imitating someone else
Holy fuck! This is amazing! You picked the two perfect albums to compete! They are really unique but the same. Thank you so much! I really enjoyed this.
This is literally the soundtrack to my life in school, now in my 40’s and still loving this shit more than ever. Been a while since I listened to these songs. You picked some choice riffs, brought me back…great job playing and great tone.
Both bands are awesome. I like not only these two albums, but the entire discographies of these groups - two legends. Thanks great material. Greetings from Warsaw.
man, Death riffs still make my skin crawl... (in the best way) Spiritual Healing- probabbly the best metal album ever made awesome video, keep this music alive!
Both of these albums are my favorite from both of these bands! I thought Spiritual healing was the winner at first but hearing these killer riffs from Cause of Death again make it a toss up. Too close to call! Great video man! Thank you!
That god damn tone. I was there for this way back in the day. Pestilence, obituary, and death toured together. Heaviest show to this fucking day still.
I literally had my obituary cause of death shirt on as I seen this! The guitar tone on obituary cause of death is super brutal but spiritual healing is really iconic and has some classics on there
I just saw Obituary open for BLS a few weeks ago. They killed it!!! I wish I would've had the opportunity to see Death live. Chuck stopped touring the same year i went to my 1st concert (1999).
Beautiful work! It's a really nice chance to compare the styles of the two bands in this era. To my ear, Chuck's writing was more rooted in classic heavy metal whereas Obituary's riffs were choppy and Celtic Frost-sounding. Anyhow, I'll never grow tired of listening to those 2 albums.
Two Masterpieces and also two of my all time favorite Death Metal albums!!! Thanks for sharing this...I just couldn't resist and had to subscribe hahaha!!!
Obituary is my favorite death metal band. Simple riffs, yet so heavy and catchy. Death ended on this album for me, never liked the progressive elements nor Chuck's vocal change on their next albums. But Leprosy and Spiritual Healing are amazing.
This is like what's better awesome or awesome? I love both albums and wore out compiles of each of them as I finished high school.... oh and James Murphy's solos on each album, Damn!
I dont know exactly what IT is that I love the band Death sooo much more than the other big old school Death Metal sub genre...maybe Its because I can hear the guitars much better than most DM albums and also they way in which the band writes their songs...catchy, memorable hooks, badass sinister sounding guitar riffs that can melt your face off and just something about the way Chucks vocals sound....is much more appealing to me than majority of other DM vocalist and there's just something with the way they put their riffs, and middle bridge parts that goes into a totally different riff and the solos are the icing and cherry on top for me....especially on this album "Spiritual Healing " between James & Chuck solos were complex enough and different styles enough that it fit together perfectly in my opinion and I love both styles of soloing Chucks solo on Killing Spree is my favorite!!
Two of my favorite Death Metal albums !! Big shout out to James Murphy who played lead guitar on both albums !!

Spiritual Healing is often overlooked by Leprosy but damn it's just got so many good riffs. Genetic Reconstruction is such a banger!
Yep, but I love em both!
SH is not overlooked, but its totally different then Leprosy, both albums are like from different planet, i love them both from day of launch

Genetic reconstruction....listen those lyrics, song was prophetic.
its second best death behind Human
1990 was a great year for rock/metal.
Rust In Peace, Cowboys From Hell, Souls Of Black, Painkiller, Passion & Warfare, Facelift, Seasons In The Abyss, Frizzle Fry.....they just don't make 'em like that anymore.

Damn well said crusher! Metal forever bro!

Both masterpieces, but Cause of Death all the way. James Murphy did an excellent job on both records

Yeah James Murphy was so good on both. His solo in the cover of Circle of the Tyrants by Celtic Frost.

Chuck was a Monster and a genius
I don't think Chuck was satisfied with that album, during touring he quit and gone to record Human with new members and really created a Masterpiece 🤘🏻
The Philosopher tapping is cool.
@@hadesdescent6664 he quit touring because the rest of the band played a show without him lol

Two great classics, but I'm definitely an Obituary guy. Their riffs are so heavy, evil and catchy!

Spiritual Healing for it's creativity and progressive tendencies, Cause of Death for pure caveman heaviness. I prefer Death overall.

Spiritual Healing is massively underrated. Definitely better than Scream Bloody Gore and The Sound of Perseverance
But no better tan Human 1991
Scream bloody gore gets better every time i listen to it. Some of the intricate riffs are mental considering most were wrote in the early to mid 80s
I remember when those were new albums. I bought them on cassette. Great video as always
Yeah me too man!! Still have them too.
Fuck yeah. Cranking them in my 1974 monte carlo
I miss those days!!!

going with Spiritual Healing on this one. Obituary's got some heavy brutal riffs but Spiritual Healing has more character.
Nice nice nice!!! Two bands with such a massive crushing guitar sound. Loved it man!!
Cause Of Death is easily one of the top 5 Death Metal Albums of all time
100% without a doubt. And thats saying something because Death fills up every other slot lmfao. Jokes aside, I think there is room for a Morbid Angel or Bolt Thrower album too.
