No. Simply no. This theory if flawed.
Stannis might seem as a hard man, but he's not a brutal psycho. He won't kill Shireen the same way he won't kill Edric.
People seem to think that because Stannis chastised Davls for saving Edric it meabs that he was willing to kill him. No. Stannis showed offende at the thought of Davos thinking he would be capable and challenged his view on it. He has already said that if he dies, Davos and Masie should try to put Shireen on the throne. If he was going to be able to kill his own daughter, he would have already burnt Theon and his sister, his army is alread starving to death and doing cannibalism and they're already an extreme situation

The fact Melisandre doesn't sleep much or eat, is also a sign she might have been brought back once she died. She also uses the rubies to glamour herself to make herself look more beautiful than she actually is. Look at how Lady Stoneheart was brought? Catelyn was once a beautiful woman. But her corpse was damaged and her beautiful from before was gone.

I feel like if you're looking for a king who recently claimed a crown and breaks taboos to a degree that his name will be wiped from history after he is defeated by a coalition of kings, then you have to at least mention Euron Greyjoy. He is blatantly trying to become a god and is connected to Bloodraven. Euron is a blue eyed king who plays with shadow magic, whose gifts are poison, and whose smiling persona is lie.
I also don't think that Stannis saw himself burning. The fire visions are almost always interpreted wrong. Melisandre has seen Euron in her flames and Euron's bride sounds like Melisandre - long, tall, and terrible. Euron's lips are blue which could make him look like a corpse. Imo Euron is a better candidate for a new Night's King than Stannis.

I'm pretty sure what Stannis saw was the death of Viserys

    • @Gunleaver
      @Gunleaver 10 місяців тому

@@Wickbam1985 The problem with that is why would the entity or force responsible for his vision show him that? What has it to do with Stannis? Also, why would he call a blob of molten gold a crown? Why would he call a sniveling dishevled prisoner a king? WE think of Viserys, because we remember that he & Dany thought of him as the lawful king, and we read what Drogo said to him. Stannis doesn't think of Viserys as a king, even if he recognized the man in the vision, and he was really pathetic & contemptible in appearance at that moment.
If you had to illustrate a crown burning the head of a king, would you draw a pot of molten gold being poured on the head of a man in dirty old clothes? If you saw the image of a man in dirty old clothes having a pot of molten gold poured on his head, would you say you saw a crown burning its wearer's skull? No.
What Stannis is only thematically connected to Viserys' death and only relevant to the reader. The vision sent to him is a warning about the cost and nature of power in general, and possibly a specific, if highly allegorical, consumer warning about the end result of what Rhollor will ultimately demand of him.

I've always felt that Euron has his own thing going on and would not want a hand me down godhood, and that the Night's King and Bloodstone Emperor where 2 different roles in the story. People saying Stannis is not evil are missing the point, as Stannis is being eaten alive by the burden of being Azor Ahai, culminating in him breaking under the weight of it. Shouldering the burden alone will ultimately undo him and everything he is. There is a reason so many other characters share characteristics of the Last Hero and Azor Ahai, because it is going to take all of them to turn back the Others. Stannis isn't evil, he's a tragic figure whose entire life was defined by what he was not rather than all the amazing things he is. So him becoming the avatar of the Great Other would make a lot of sense to me. Great theory.

No one is talking about the damn show. Stannis is a counterfeit savior and you can moan all you want it is not going to change that. I was reading the series long before there was even talk of a tv series, you trend chasing clown, so I've had many years to think about Stannis and his journey, and it ends badly. Hoist your daddy issues on some other fictional king. Stannis is a good man in an impossible situation, he can't do what he is being asked to do and it is going to destroy him one way or another. You can keep on yammering about the show and super villains and all that nonsense but this theory is as valid an end as any other.

I don't think Stannis is going to fight Ramsey on the frozen lakes, I think that's going to be how he traps "Ser Stupid" Hosteen Frey. In the WoW chapter that was released "early", Stannis is sending Justin Massey to hire mercenaries and do other errands. He tells him "You may hear that I am dead. It may even be true," before ordering him to continue the fight regardless. That's a weird way to say it. Normally, he would be telling Massey to carry on, even after his death, if the subject of his death even came up. But the phrasing suggests that it is very likely that Massey will hear reports of Stannis' death. The strongest explanation and interpretation of those words is that Stannis has a specific reason to believe this news will circulate, because he intends to fake his death. The odd thing about Ramsey's letter is that he claims to have Stannis' sword, obtained after an implausibly long battle, yet he does not have Theon or Jeyne. We see in the preview chapter that Stannis is sending Jeyne Poole on with Massey, but has Theon chained to the wall in his HQ. Why would Ramsey have Stannis' sword but not Theon? How would Theon get away, given his poor condition, and the fact that most of Stannis' army wants him dead (even the southron lords & knights, because many of them have hopes of claiming the Iron Island by marrying Asha, which only works if Theon is dead)? The answer is that behind the Freys are coming the Manderlys, almost certainly with a letter from Davos advising of the ruse of his death and their intention to switch teams, and an itch to avenge the attack on Lord Wyman by Hosteen Frey.
I think the letter is explained by a confab between the Manderly troops and Stannis, and their return to Winterfell with Stannis' sword, and a claim to have been fighting for several days, which Ramsey, not having any real military experience, would not see through, and would repeat, while claiming credit for the victory. If he's sending a letter out like that, claiming to be Lord of Winterfell, Roose has to be dead, murdered by Ramsey or traitors in the fold. Basically, the Boltons are folding like a cheap card table. This is a recurring theme of Martin's, that these treacherous, psychopathic, self-serving lords & toxic families might grab an occasional short-term advantage over their more honorable adversaries, but their methods and values cannot sustain a regime over the long run. The good guys generally don't get to take down the bad guys or deliver comeuppance, because Martin does not hold success in the game of thrones as a worthy goal. The Starks (and Dany) will get their victories by helping people, and will beat the Others, not the Lannisters or Boltons. So it won't be Jon & Sansa retaking Winterfell with Littlefinger's help, it will be Stannis, with the help of Hothor Umber, the Manderlys and others inside Winterfell, and possibly advice obtained from communing with Bran & Bloodraven on the lake island with the weirwood. In the WoW chapter, Asha, presumably to spare Theon the more painful death by burning, implores Stannis to execute him northern-style, to atone for his crimes against the North, on the island, in sight of the heart tree. At this point, a bunch of ravens in the room start voicing their support for this plan, calling out Theon's name and "tree". The only explanation for this is that Bran & Bloodraven are skinwalking them and want Stannis to get to a weirwood where they will presumably be better able to communicate. It was established in the first book that Bran knows all the structural secrets of Winterfell, or at least more than most people living there. He seems the one most likely to be able to tell Stannis how to sneak in and catch the Boltons and Freys by surprise.
I also don't see Stannis as a new Night King, because the video is overlooking the most important point about the Night King, in favor of matching superficial qualities to various characters. The importance of the Night King is not that he claimed a crown or took a wife, but that he made a deal with the Others. That he married is not as important as WHO he married, a woman whose description bears a resemblance to the Others. Remember, the book Others are not the crusty blue monsters of the show, they are described more like fae, being beautiful and graceful and so forth. If there is going to be a new Night King, that's what he's going to be about - a traitor to humanity, who sides with evil forces for his own aggrandizement. Stannis has already done that dance, and come out on the right side. Mance does not have enough character development to make that a compelling story. Jon shows no sign of the lust for power that would turn him to serve the Others, whom he has been dedicated to fighting, over and above all sorts of political considerations. All three men (and what common ground they have in their dealings with one another) have been focused on the fight against the Others and for humanity. The sorceress all three work with, Melisandre, is likewise a zealot for the cause. These sorts of characters are in danger, not of selling out, but of going to wrongful extremes in the name of the cause of good. Stannis & Melisandre might cause a disaster with whatever powers they summon with their ill-advised sacrifice of Shireen, but it will not be to exalt them as evil tyrants.
No, the candidate for Night King 2.0 is Euron Greyjoy. Aeron even had a vision of him in their WoW preview chapter with a bride who matches the description of the Night King's. By his own account, he has spent considerable time and effort studying and pursuing magical powers. He is thoroughly evil and embraces human sacrifice, and is preparing a large-scale ritual in WoW, which seems aimed at the Reach, otherwise, relatively unscathed in the devastation the rest of the continent is or will suffer. He is gunning for Oldtown, which is the most likely place in Westeros to find magical treasure or forbidden knowledge, and has sent his brother in pursuit of dragons. He has made it clear that he cares nothing for the lands he conquers, only seeing it as a means to his end. This all suggests someone who is interested only in supernatural powers, and thus, who is willing to give whatever he has to get in good with the Others (who, as we see, have gradually taken all of Craster's livestock, in addition to his sons). He's going to be the threat for the people in the south, like Sam & the Citadel crew, to fight in order to keep his treachery from giving the Others too much of an advantage.

There is another person that has a lot of these qualities mentioned in the video, Euron. He's a king, has a lot of magic wielders, including ones with a large supply of blue magic juice. The Undying Ones were corpselike and completely blue in hue. He is currently single but actively looking for a queen. Perhaps when Dany is a No Go, he does a corpse instead. I am not sure how his journeys are gonna go but you can "see" the wall from Old Town (near where Euron is), and Same brought a horn that may be able to break the wall. He also has a child (probably more than one but definitely at least one), to sacrifice. He strapped the pregnant mom to the bow of his ship.

Great video! Ive always thought/been worried that Stannis will sacrifice Shireen, at the behest of Melisandre as a way to forge the new "Lightbringer" in an attempt to fulfill the Azor Ahai prophecy ala Nissa Nissa sort of (because everyone, including Melisandre, knows that Stannis' flaming sword is fake, whether they want to believe it or not), and then immediately regret it when it doesn't actually do anything. Mel seems to be so incredibly blinded by her fanaticism, that she's either actively lying to herself or is doing all kinds of mental gymnastics to actually convince herself that Stannis' is Azor Ahai, and it's either gonna completely ruin everything or snap her back into reality when her misinterpretations don't work out. I fully believe that she is incredibly powerful (I pretty firmly believe she's actually a Wildling Greenseer kidnapped from Hardhome like 600 years ago, but I digress lol), but there is something going on with her beliefs or fanaticism that seriously clouds her judgement, regardless of how truly talented or powerful she is 🤷

I think this is an interesting take, and agree out of the 3 guys Stannis is most likely the parallel to Night's King. I'm just not convinced he'd agree to the Shireen murder. He is so big on the laws and he truly loves her. I think if the situation was desperate enough he might, but currently I don't think the situation calls for it or that he would be compelled to agree rather than fall back and accept his losses and regroup. He is the one who will break before he bends. He'd rather die not being a kinslayer than agree to murder his daughter.
I think Edric is a grey area and we don't really know what he would have allowed Melisandre to do to him, but he was a bastard so there is a chance Stannis wouldn't view that as kinslaying. Or he may have told Melisandre to get his blood without killing him (similar to the leeches used in the show). We just don't know because Davos intervened. And that seemed to relieve Stannis.
But he has shown time and time again he will not make people suffer more than they deserve (in his mind per the law). And murdering Shireen, especially by burning alive, is just too brutal currently in my opinion. I think it's way more likely Melisandre would do it without his permission and that is what would make him snap.
But again, to what end? If the spell failed, I'm not sure what he'd achieve after trying to kill her and his wife for allowing it. If it worked, I don't know what good it would do since beating the Bolton's is not getting him on the Iron Thone (immediately after) and has no true significance to beating the Southern army in a way he would be willing to forgive. It is one of the plotlines I'm most fascinated about and really want to see GRRM's actual version of.
Also something I find most fascinating about how GRRM has other characters describe Stannis is much more in line with actual Tywin, and how Tywin is described by those that are on his side is actually much more in line with real Stannis. I haven't found anything Stannis has actually done that is as brutal as the rumors make him out to be. But Tywin has done war crimes for decades and is terribly brutal. It's really interesting why GRRM's done this and what it will mean for Stannis' ending.

I didn't know about those figurines, wow. To me, it has always read that Mel being AT the Wall is BADBADBAD idea. Her shadows can PASS the Walls magical barriers. She should NOT be there-she is the next Night's Queen if she stays there. IF Jon's body gets beyond the Wall BEFORE he is rezzed...there's her King. But it ain't Jon-it is Stannis. The ONLY way Stannis will EVER burn Shireen while she is alive is IF Stannis is NOT Stannis anymore. As he is written now, Stannis will NEVER burn his daughter. He broke down to Davos and admitted his regret over Renley-and his love for him. Stannis is NOT going to go down THAT road again, especially with his daughter. Something MAJOR is going to have to happen to Stannis to get him even close to a place where he considers burning Shireen at this point in the books. You are right to know that Stannis won't just go burn his daughter. He thought it was worth the cost-until Renley. Stannis is having a hard time reconciling himself with his part in Renley's murder. Also-Davos didn't take Rickon to the Wall. Rickon is in Barrowton-Davos is back. The Hooded Man was there to inform Manderly and Barbrey that Davos had returned. There is also a missing Umber army-they are in Barrowton as well. MAYBE the Wolf's Den. But to me it reads Barrowton, not Wolf's Den. THAT is why Ramsey's wedding was moved from Barrowton. The Theon chapter, with him hanging in chains while Stannis talks to different people, takes the Karstarks in custody and busts out the Dreadfort maester? THAT is an INSANE chapter. In sum-Stannis knows Davos is back, Stannis has been in contact with Manderly and Barbrey INSIDE Winterfell, and Roose sent the Freys out on purpose to die. Winterfell has already fallen, from within, it reads to me. And the whytes-DO they have 'memories?' OR did the whytes at the Wall go for Jeor simply because HE was the Lord Commander and HE let them through? I do not think THOSE whytes would have come back to life without Jeor being the one who gives permission for them to pass through. I believe THOSE whytes would have gone for ANYONE who was Lord Commander. SO-with that in mind, Jon is now the 2nd Lord Commander in a row to be murdered by his own men. Jeor WOULD have been killed by his own men that night if Jon hadn't stpped them. Even as whytes, they were brothers of the watch. Jeor DOES die at Craster's-by his own men's hands. Craster being in league with The Others. Pretty sus. Craster doesn't kill him...but that is like saying Roose didn't kill Domeric. There are ways to kill people without ever coming close to them or having any real hand in it. But that is a whole other huge side rant lol-but 2 LC's dying back to back in small mutinies is INSANELY unique, as far as sinister magical undertones go. THAT is going to bite the Watch in their ass. The whytes being placed for OBVIOUS discovery-their being brothers of the watch gaurantees that they will be brought through the wall. Waymar Royce's broken hilt being brought back by a wildling when it was with the Others, last we knew-The Others are looking for a way past the Wall. They are experimenting, for lack of better terms. Mel is wrong, you are right! Mel is being tricked. When she asks to see her enemy, all she sees is snow. And the shadows that she can conceive at the wall will be POWERFUL strong. Mel ages WELL...imagine how many babies she can have for The Others, NO magical barrier can stop?

I like the redux video, but I think distinctly calling one character Night's King is missing the point. The reason several characters have the characteristics of Night's king is because these significant historical characters are multi-natured. NK has the nature of a sorcerer, a king, and a lover which Mance, Stannis and Jon fufill. This is not too disimilar to how significant figures in our real world are multi-natured, Jesus has the nature of a prophet, a god and a shepard.

There are no laws regarding incest and polygamy. Only religious exemptions. The Doctrine of Exceptionalism excuses the Targaryens for incest but not for polygamy. This is so the church does not judge them, not the courts. This is about sins, not crimes of the law. Please cite the text if Andal law directly states "no polygamy". When R+L=J is discussed, people are quick to claim its illegal. But the Targaryen's problem with incest and polygamy was never a legal matter. They were always fighting with the Faith. The church, not the court.
