      'I remember You' is my favorite! I worked in a dept store part time, and sunday mornings we would clean & restock before opening. We would listen to Kasey Casum count down and when they song came on, a bunch of us would sing it together while we worked! So much fun, and got a ton of laughs!

    Rachel's real name is James. I like how everyone blames the bull solely on Bach, as though they didn't all pick up their instruments and play Get the Fuck Out for Wembley, or back him up in all the interviews they did at the time, or encourage him from the sidelines. Just go back and watch. The footage exists. Look at the faces in the background. Do they look like the faces of those who want to condemn the actions of their vocalist and distance themselves from him? Read the interviews in magazines. Watch the home videos. They all supported and encouraged his actions. And, all that free press was good for the band. No publicity is bad publicity. He was the quintessential out-of-control front man. I think what really happened is they wanted to change their sound and image and become alternative or grunge, as is evidenced by their albums after Bach, and they couldn't see how to do that with the blonde, spandex clad, golden-piped, heroin-chic, 80s rocker they had at the mic. They tried to make him sing more alternative sounding music, and grungier vocals, and put a plaid shirt and cut off shorts on him for Subhuman Race, but he was still Motley Crue meets Bon Jovi meets Rob Halford through and through. So, they fired him and tried to reinvent themselves. Go watch the video for their song "Ghost." That obviously failed, so now they have to blame it on Bach's ego. I'm tired of hearing about the never-to-be reunion. I have seen Sebastian twice in recent years and he sounded terrific. His band is good, too. I am a huge fan of their 90s music, but knowing that they're all such dicks to each other has soured it for me. They behave like a bunch of grade-school girls and that's not what I want in a metal band.

      Absolutely. 3:20 in the video says it all. Sebastian was the real deal and already a pro when he joined Skid Row. Snake's claim to fame is knowing Jon Bon Jovi and his "writer's block" referenced in the video was likely because of his alcoholism. Think about that for a second......had these bands been allowed to have radio play and record company support passed 91' they would have sold as many albums as aerosmith and zeppelin. Poison sold 55 million between 86' and 90'. Warrant sold 15 million in their height from 89-92. 3 years. Same with great white. That is a testament to how huge these bands were back then. The music industry shut down the hair and glam metal bands. It wasn't grunge. The record companies stopped signing and promoting bands like Warrant, Poison, and Cinderella, and radio stations and MTV stopped playing their music. There was room for both. People still liked those bands, but the industry made sure they went down, and weren't able to sale albums anymore. I was a fan of both styles. The music industry determines what music will be heard. That's why mainstream music is absolute garbage today. Computer technology has also played a big part in sucking the life out of modern music.

      Metallica never had any radio play and until One they never made a music video. Yet they managed to survive and thrive. I know they aren't glam or hair metal but were treated worse by the record companies radio stations and MTV for more than decade until Enter Sandman. So unless the teased out hair was cursed I'd say it had more to do with the fact that hair metal relied too much on the trendiness and trying to look a part. That's not to say that all of those bands were shitty musicians, but when you lean to heavily on the image rather than being yourself and just making kick ass music don't expect to have a lot of longevity. Their Aqua Net held it together better than their music could .

    • @lonewanderer2894
      @lonewanderer2894 2 роки тому +14

      I find this to be nonsense. The industry didn't just decide they disliked hair and glam metal , snap their fingers and away they went. If people had continued to purchase albums and those bands had been making money, the industry absolutely would have been in their corner. Even if they weren't, if they had made music that a lot of people wanted to consume, it wouldn't matter what the 'industry' did. No industry shuts down their money makers. The fact is, these bands weren't making money. The same gimmicks and over the top styles that made them popular inevitably become their downfall.
      As pointed out already, Metallica sold millions and millions of albums before TBA came out. No radio, one music video. Reason being, they focused on song writing and being themselves instead of gimmicks and finding that one hit video for MTV. That was the 80's playbook. Find one hit song/video and ride it until it dies. For the majority of these bands, it died. Metallica, regardless of what anyone thinks of them, continued to write great songs. Commercial success followed the great songwriting. People talk as if they had a crystal ball and just snapped their fingers and created TBA. No, commercial success came because they wrote great songs without all the gimmicks and did what they wanted to do.

    • @michaelharrington75
      @michaelharrington75 2 роки тому +27

      @@lonewanderer2894 It wasn't that they disliked hair and glam metal. The Seattle bands were having big success, and the music industry decided to go looking for more bands in the alternative and grunge style. It was a movement. I've heard many interviews from musicians from those hair metal bands say the record companies and MTV wouldn't give them any attention after Nirvana broke, and those companies definitely weren't scouting for new talent in the hair and glam metal style bands anymore. It wasn't long before radio followed suit. The music industry jumped on the new scene, and left the old guys hanging out to dry. They stopped giving them money to record new albums, and stopped promoting any albums already recorded. A few bands hung on for a while because they had already recorded their latest albums, but without the promotion of record companies, MTV, and magazines the albums sales began to drop.
      Some of the other bands like Motley Crue changed their style a bit, and were already too big to be completely shut out, but we're never as successful as they were before grunge hit. Guns N Roses were too big for the record companies to part with, and could have easily survived the change (because they were already different, but even they began wearing flannel shirts, and trying to get some of the new guys from the grunge/alternative scene to open for them and appear in their videos. Axl tried to get Nirvana to tour with them, but Nirvana turned them down.
      It takes allot of promotion for albums to be successful. Even a successful band will struggle if the record company doesn't do the proper promotion, MTV doesn't play their videos, radio play their songs, and corporate music magazines don't talk about them. The glam and hair metal bands were abandoned in all those areas of the music industry, and the genre died out. That's a fact.

And I say this as someone who is ALSO a big fan of their new/current singer, ZP Theart. Having personally met ZP, he's a SUPER cool guy. Down to Earth and super nice. But still, in my head you just don't have true Skid Row without Bach on vocals.

    More should be made about the contrast between the S/T and Slave to the Grind. Literally every one of Skid Row's contemporaries were going lighter and more cheesy. Pop metal was Warrant, Slaughter, Winger, ect at that time. Slave to the Grind was SO much heavier and darker than anything else in the genre. It was closer to thrash than hair metal. It was a unique turn, and is one of the few records of that era that hold up. Though neither genre would admit it, I always thought Slave was a bridge between hair metal and grunge. It still has the power ballads, but it is as heavy as early Soundgarden or Nirvana.

      I don't think it was about not wanting to, cause they later went on and opened for them. From my vantage point as a teen in the 1980s, I never understood why some metal fans couldn't also like the Grunge sound. My friends and I listened to Skid Row, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, AC/DC along with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. I played Slave to the Grind non-stop in my college dorm. It is one of the best albums ever in my opinion. I still crank it up to this day from time to time.
    Bach's voice is killer on those early Skid Row albums. I wish, however, he could have tapped down that wild ego of his. His acerbic personality got him removed from band and that damaged everyone's career. Sure the band still tours, but their fame is no where near their fame from back in the day. Bach's career has followed that same uneven path. Sadly, they could have been so much more.

      As a teen from the 1980s, metal wasn't played on the radio, hard rock, glam rock was. There is a huge difference between them.
      Iron Maiden's songs are mostly about literature, history, or military battles and yet they couldn't get air play in the US because they were too heavy. Didn't play any love ballads like most hair/glam rock bands did. Their songs are not about sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll, which gets plenty of air play in the US.

The lead singer ran jumping onto the stage, then fell flat on his a** on a puddle of water, then sung the first part of the song note for note perfect while on his back. The water was from a severe thunder storm that was still looming overhead -- They were offered to cancel but risked it all for us that day.

    I was living in Japan in 1994 to 1998. In 1995 I seen Rachel Bolan and the crew on pub crawl in Roppongi. He asked what I was doing in Tokyo, to which I answered. I then asked everyone where Sebastian was, Rachel responded with somethingto the fact of, "this is the band, divas do their own thing". At the time I got what he was saying but I didn't know the division was something bigger.
    My music taste had evolved sine then. I had went from Skid Row to G-n-R to Suicidal Tendencies to Prong to Nirvana and STP to Biohazard, and Sick of it All. When I seen Baz and Evan Seinfeld in a band together I had thought that this wasn't going to last long. Seen 1 episode of that reality show and it was too predictable to fail.
