I did the same! And my job ate away at me physically and mentally. Excited to spend the rest of my year focusing on myself and slowing down.

I’ve been saving for a while. I have about a years worth if I really try to stretch it out. I’m 45 and started working when I was 16. Haven’t stopped since. I’m tired. My corporate job pays well but it’s extremely stressful. My blood pressure has gone through the roof recently. Today is Friday and I’m considering not going back to work Monday. I’ve been contemplating doing this for a while but have been scared to pull the trigger. It’s starting to feel more and more right. My kids will be out of school for summer break in a month and I plan to take the summer off (about 3 months total) and start looking for another job aground the time they go back to school. Still scared a little. I’ve never done anything like this before. Wish me luck. Inside I feel that it’ll all work out and I’ll be fine.

I’ve got a years wages in savings and I can start drawing from my pension should things go South 👍🏻

It has been great. No regrets. I did just as I said I would…immediately resigned and didn’t go back to work on Monday. I too, thought I would use retirement savings if I had to but I decided against that bc it took he too long to build that nest egg. I used regular savings, and, shockingly, I also qualified for unemployment benefits so that helped. I ended up taking 4 months off and got to enjoy the summer when my kids were out of school. Found another job in a similar field that I had been in but for a non profit agency. The pay is much lower but I literally have zero stress (at least not from work) so for me it’s worth the trade off. Having savings, low personal expenses, and a frugal mentality helped a lot. I wish anyone considering this much luck. You only get one life so don’t waste it away at a job that makes you miserable.

I want to leave my job this year and just take the summer off (2-3 months). I have very little expenses right now and I’m building up my savings. I don’t see myself growing at my current job and I’ve been going back and forth about leaving for a very long time and I just need to do it. I hope I can reach my savings goals by the end of May so I can do what I want finally.

I have the money but still havent pulled the trigger. Fear of not having good health care coverage scares me. I am a wimp.

eat healthcare can be found all around the world. Check out some of the videos made by middle aged couples and singles who have retired early and sold everything to travel. Eat, Walk, Learn, the Retirement Travelers, 2 Go Roam, Nora Dunn aka The Professional Hobo. Nora has very helpful videos on everything travel. My husband and I are approaching 60 and are leaving on our gap year in July. We plan on traveling carryon and a backpack only. Seize the Day!

You’re going to die anyways, and won’t need the health care coverage. Really good affordable healthcare in Columbia and turkey. Time is not waiting for no one.

I resigned today for year of adventures for my 50th! I came into an unexpected change in circumstances a month ago, that has meant a very different future. Scary but exciting to take the challenge!

OMG! I don't know if this is a sign, but I totally get you. I lost my dad in 2020, a couple of days after xmas. I don't celebrate the holidays anymore.😥😥 That turned my world upside down as well. That event started my entrepreneurship journey. Thank you for sharing. I've also read The Four-Hour Work Week, love it!

I’m so sorry for your loss 😢 but I totally agree that it shouldn’t have to take something as drastic as that to wake up and realize that our life is WAY too short to work it all away with very very little time off. Time for yourself and your loved ones is so important.
I wish you the best of luck. I loved this video ❤
