I love how this adds to the layer of constant cosmic threats. You have to watch out for these voidworm fleets then potentially the ameobas, tiyankis, crystalline entities, dimensional horror, etc. Plus the fact they infect pops, this is great. Loved the storytelling in this one, plus the part where you redacted the system where unethical testing took place. Idk why but that added so much more to the story.
Of interest, Paradox explained what voidworms have been doing before your empire gets FTL - "Voidworms are Apex predators in the sense that nothing is preying on them, but their proliferation is tied to the availability of sapient life in the galaxy. With the overwhelming power of the Fallen Empires, Voidworms have only ever preyed on primitive societies where the population is less numerous and harder to find. In fact with the simultaneous rise of FTL-capable empires, it has never been easier for Voidworms to proliferate !"
Apex? Seriously? Nha, most likly there isa galctic whale call "the maw" that travel from poin to point of the galaxy eating black holes (including worms) and shiting planets, like actual size planet and asteroids. When the whale dies it becomes a giant gas mass.
The Pacifist in me feels like a good solution to the Voidworm question (in story, not sure about gameplay) is to hit up some of the local Mega-engrineers to joint fund a project to built a bunch of specially cultivated ring-worlds and planetary nature reserves in the Black Hole Systems and keep them quarantined and managed to those few small systems, managed and observed. That way, their rate of reproduction is kept low and they never reach critical mass to form a plague. Also, the empire who holds them in check will have a lovely "sword of damocles" to keep their neighbors polite. And if the GalCom get upset about it...well what are they gonna do about it? If they want to sanction you, just cash in your favors to overrule them or leave. Not like they can actually force you to do anything.
@@gabc1917 no. But also, as of cosmogenisis being part of the game, the worm canonical does not love you. That was a mistranslation. The worm attracts you.
Such an interesting creature. Such ominous, monstrous creatures. And then there's me, having a swarm of them and naming them things like silky, wormy, Illy, Milly, Billy, burly, thinly, etc. Then grabbing a sector among my newly conquered territory, release them as a vassal, declare war on them and let the void worms bombard the planets as much as they want.
It would be funny if there was a special event for the Here be Dragon origin as there's an event where the Dragon lands on the planet and I kinda assume it would not be happy being bombarded by void worms. Although I think the event is set to trigger and finish before the midgame so there might not be anything.
I partly played through a game yesterday with these guys. A mere 5 years in the game, they tried to attack my capital while my fleet was away. I was actually playing "here be dragons," so they got clapped still. But it makes me wonder if I will need to build star bases over all my planets or if my virtual machine pops even need to care.
The background music during the intro reminds me of creepypasta that readings that sometimes use it, very fitting I suppose ^^ The Voidworms and their mechanics look really nice. Thank you for making this video ❤
my first play through of the new DLC was with a Cordyseptic ranching hive with the new civic that starts with cloning and i went from 30k fleet power in 2250 (roleplay run where i can only use biological and reanimated fleets) to 220k fleet power when the crisis hit turns out the best way to deal with the Worms is to steal them from themselves
One thing i accidently found out about the voidworms: their hives are NOT immune to space storms. I was going about my game normally and found a system with hives. so i set up a science ship to launch some capture nets at them. until they stopped spawning. I checked the system to see what was wrong, and their nests were gone. Now i don't know if the AI is smart enough to do target them, but i DID see that there had been a space storm that blew in.

"how have we not seen one of these things until now?" space is a big big empty empty place, my loyal scholar. a full two billion stars in this galaxy alone. The ammout of distance between two stars compared to their size is akin to two grains of sand at opposite ends of a football stadium. Every star that the galactic community has mapped amounts to less than a fraction of a percent of all the stars in the galaxy. for all we know there oculd be an entirely separate additional galactic community, in this very galaxy, with just as big a population, that we've simply never bumped into before. Hell, a single niven ring, assuming you terraform the full circumference of the thing, would have enough living space on it to fit the entire galactic community several times over.
