What will happen when Audi’s smallest performance saloon goes head-to-head against the largest Audi performance saloon? Well, it’s time to find out!
Mat’s lining up in the new Audi RS3 and it’s facing off against the Audi S8! But how do their stats compare?
Starting with the RS3, it’s packing a 2.5-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder engine under the bonnet, which is good for 400hp and 500Nm of torque. It’s relatively light for a performance saloon, at 1,575kg, and it’ll set you back around £56,000.
Then we have the S8, which is a whole lot heavier, weighing in at 2,220kg! It’s also much more expensive, at £103,000, but with good reason - not only is it super luxurious inside, but it’s also mighty powerful! Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can put down 571hp and 800Nm.
So the S8 clearly has more power, but will the massive weight difference work against it? There’s only one way to find out - LET’S RACE!

For the best 2 out of 3 drag I think you should pick the best time each car did across the 3 drags.
I think they do use the best time each car did across the three, just that they'll show footage of the car that won.
It should be the best time vs best time of all 3 races. Picking 2 out of 3 drags means the win is based on the driver and not the car.

Also RS3 is light and good at acceleration, I think both cars are a masterpiece.

The RS3 certainly isnt light anymore. 1.6 tonnes for such a small car is ridiculous. Still, insanely fun car and i love them to death, though i really prefer the last generarion

I love how big powerful saloons just comfortably cruise past. S65 AMGs are incredibly good at that.
It's very refreshing to hear someone talk about s65.. not to many know nor speak about them..power house luxury vehicles with super car power ..rarely see any either

I love those things, if I were a collector I would've had a S65 and a W222 S600 non-Maybach. Those things are rare. When Mercedes introduced the Maybach S600 it cannibalized on the normal S600.

Matt!!! What we NEED is a drag race of all AMGs (A45, C63s, E63s, G63, GLE63s, S65, SL65, etc etc) a kockout if they cant all fit on the track. Same with all RS and M cars
Audi quattro literally never had issues with traction but Mat "needed" tyres to be warmed up! :)

@@razor_ramon_ in the dig race the Rimac will kill the f1 due to awd, but the rolling race would be good. A Rimac does 2.95sec 100-200kmh (measured with dragy), idk what’s the time for an f1 car

@@stubones lucky that S8 never had a chance when going up against RS3. Imagine if this S8 going up against a Mazda Demio GL-X.
Previous RS3, when it was tuned was the fastest straight line Audi, you could buy for a reasonable price. Both cars RS3 and S8 have the same improved (i hope so) engines, so RS3 is still the king of the Drag. Now it's interesting what BMW prepared with new S58 engines and xDrive, and can it beat Audi at the Drag, when both cars will reveal their full potential.

The S58 engine in the BMW's has already proven to be faster than the Audi's. The new M3 is faster than an RS6, despite the power difference. Even the B58 in the M240i matches the RS3. Saying that, the RS3 is the Audi I'd choose. That 5 pot engine sounds incredible with a decent exhaust on it. Stage 1 map and it's faster than pretty much everything on the road too.
@@roboticvenom1935 I like Audis, but you're full of shit. The M5 Competition, for example, manages 60 MPH in 2.6 seconds and the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds @ 130 MPH. Audi can't touch it.
The RS3 is still my favorite sport compact sedan, though.

Finally a race I been waiting for Audi vs Audi
I think you should have the cars in the sportiest setting when testing kickdown, because that's where the car does the best it can, in comfort mode it depends on how the engineers thought it should behave then.
The reason they have this test is to see how the cars would perform in the real world under normal driving condtions, say just cruising on the motorway or backroads and then wanting to overtake or something.
Yes that’s the point. Obviously most cars will do well if it’s in race but real world you’ll be in normal
@@3turbo144 Don't know man. My S3 is in sport mode immediately after engine is warm. I think if you're going S or RS, sport mode is where you want to be.
The roll race in comfort modes tests the Gearbox’s kickdown. The races in sport mode tests throttle response.
Here's a suggestion, a power to weight ratio stat would be an interesting to see with these cars to give a better idea of their performance.
It's easy to calculate: power/weight

Sometimes they do the half mile which is pretty good indication and u get pretty high speeds maybe like 170 and up

There is no point to compare both cars, because they target a totaly different audience.
Not really. They're built for different types of customers and different settings. The S8 is designed to be more comfortable and luxurious car for cruising. The RS3 is designed for tighter and twisty roads with it's superior handling and better balance. So there is definitely a point in having both
@@kinnexion totally right, I’ve had an S3 and S8, different points in my life, different number of children to cart around. Both excellent vehicles. Neither of them, like all Audis, do you want to own once they get over 10 years old, the part costs are out of this world.

RS7 timed a little under 11.5s quarter mile time. Maybe a bit too fast for this race

It is made for fast driving. If not just buy an A8.
If one has the money they would always choose the S8 over the RS3. Lets be real here: you pick the RS3 cause you dont have enough money to buy something bigger('better'), which is totally fine.
Not true at all. If that were true I would always want to drive the largest car I have, and a lot of days I want the smallest. Smaller cars can be a lot better to drive for certain journeys. It all depends what you need it to do, on what roads, where you need to park, etc etc
Well if you track or go out in twisty roads then the RS3 is the better choice. I don’t think people going for an S8 who can’t afford it settle with an RS3 the demographics are different. A lot of people modify this 5 cylinder and run mid 10 second quarter miles with just an exhaust and tune.
