Impressive polishing but I'm glad to see you're someone doing this hobby safely. It's tragic to hear how people have lost their lives due to a knife flying into their chest
@@PerspectivEs Hardly unlikely, its the most dangerous tool in the shop a moments inattention or distraction can result in serious injury or worse, anyone who does polishing often will likely bare few scars from either the wheel it self or the work piece. Also... no sand involved.
Currently doing my rex 45 para 3 blade (why did i pick such a hard steel?!) Im doing it completely by hand and am at 1500 grit hand sanding, just starting to really reflect and once my dismond paste comes ill sand to 5000 grit then polish
I'm mirror polishing the blade from my spyderco rex 45 para 3 and am only about 60 bucks in supplies (that'll do probably 4 or 5 blades) but it's a lot of work by hand. It'd super rewarding and worth the effort
On the camera it might look like perfect mirror but trust me its not.. It take compounds to bring it to absolute mirror.. I polished my cpm 4v to 0.25micron and i dont polish knives for looking cool but to close pores and even tool steel will resist rust almost like stainless.. But its not worth the time cause its pretty easy to scratch it
Hey make. Do you have the time to leborate on your polishing work? I do polisch my knifes on the machine to, and two weeks ago one of my knifes cut my stomach open and I needed several stitches. Today was the first day that I whent back to my shop, standing in from of my maschine and asking myself what whent wrong. Anyway, I have to Idea. Then I saw your video and you where holding the knife diagonal to the wheel. Isn't it way to dangeros? I think I could not held the knife like this without the mashine pushing the knife out. Anyway, I would have like to hear some more details.
We actually wear body armour, chain mail and ballistic masks, along with slash clothing to stop such things, its about muscle memory really, understanding how to apply the pressure and how much paste to use, however things with hard corners or complex bevels will be harder to polish as they will want to pull out of your hand. Sorry to hear you have been injured. The polisher is the most dangerous piece of kit in the shop by far, always respect it. That said as a knife maker you have to accept that its only a matter of time before you cut yourself! You can clearly see the chainmail at ua-cam.com/video/gku1gRa6-vY/v-deo.html
Hmmmmm...........What's the purpose of polishing the blade. 99.9% of the time a knife is going to be either in a sheath or folded in your pocket. The rest of the time you'll be using it.

source? this happening is more than unlikely
he's wearing PPE so grains of sand that are being blasted around don't fly into his eyes

@PerspectivEs Don't be lazy, search it yourself. It's very real.
Holy shit nice work, impressive polish at the end.
that's a mean buffing machine
Jesus thats allot of tools ha, awesome job
awsome work 👏🏻👏🏻
Chainmail, eh. This is why I stop at a satin hand finish, lol. Nice work!
awesome polishing
It looks great but I'm not sure it'll cut that well ;P
looks fantastic~!
Dude I want that surface grinder! Do you have any information on it like where to purchase or plans on how to make it?

Very nice
so basically you need a lot of time and a whole lot of money

Yea we all have a surface grinder at home!😅
Its not a how to video, its a how we do. Besides you can do the same without the surface grinder, sandpaper and elbow grease will get you there.
Very nice work! That's the finish I've been chasing after for a while. Can you please list the specific compounds used and the type of wheels?

@George Young Thank you. I don't like mirror either, but there are always customers who ask for it despite my advising against it.
No way. The bevels are first. After that Polishing!
Hardly a hobby shop. The rest of us have to rely on elbow grease.
Never once suggested it was a hobby shop, just showing our own process.
I have an electric scooter and it'll like to get the parts polished can you do that? Also needs the paint to cone off also.
Somewhat out of our wheelhouse, there are companies that only do polishing.

Who has a surface grinder ? Useless vid
It is not a how to video its an insight into how we do things here. Useless comment...

Thanks I hate that video. I think I'm not that interested into your " art knifes"
What do you mean by art knife? Please elaborate..
