I really don't care whether this relationship is supposed to be platonic, romantic or brotherly...This is DAMN cute! So beautifully played by real life friends Shatner and Nimoy.
@@pendragonshall it is a well-known dynamic and perception by audiences for decades dating back to the reruns and first Trek conventions and Roddenbury himself even acknowledged it! LOL have a good day
Exactly right, it's not about FX. Interesting ideas, great story-telling, three-dimensional characters, brilliant and natural dialog. That's why 50+ years later TOS is still the gold standard.
i dont see this scene on youTube but its one of my favorite too: it is the episode , when they switch bodies with some aliens. Spock seems to be dead (but his mind/soul is with nurse chapel) Kirk rushes to Spocks dead body and seems to cares him and speaks some touching words. The Alien who was in Kirk says: i can not let someone die who means SO MUCH for YOU.
I don't see this as romantic like this generation does, I see the deep friendship of people who have fought and served together for years - been on the same side of every challenge. Actually, a married couple can have both kinds of love. One of the nicest compliments my husband ever gave me was I was useful to have around and I'd make a good frontier wife... I knew exactly what he meant. We worked well, together. It wasn't just romance, it was loyalty and willingness to work as a team. Ego wasn't a problem. He taught me a lot and I taught him a great deal. We were friends as well as a married couple.
Honey, this is exactly why the creator of the universe has bothered to give the Vulcan language the sweetest gift - the word "t'hy'la", which means "lover, brother, friend". Made it up to summarize this connection in all its beauty. Now isn't in the best thing ever?
As a writer this brings to the fore inspirational emotions & thoughts. Love, Honesty & Respect from both: unfortunately, in ‘popular” tv culture, this remains ahead of OUR time. Naturally, subbed.
How I wish this completely cannon pairing had been in the newer movie. I can't BELIEVE they actually went for spock/uhura...HA! That pair couldn't even touch K/S!
I'm sorry, but. The way Kirk stares at Spock, the EYES DAMMIT. Its deep love And the romantic music. and the complements! Compare this to when Kirk is having a romantic moment with a lady, it doesn't even REACH the amount of affection to which Kirk and Spock share. Not even close! I cant with this scene, iTS TO ADORABLE IMMA SQEELING SO MUCH SOMEONE HOLD MEEEEE
@superpsychgeek Joe abandoned us in 09...! Spock + Uhura makes no sense!!! o_o' I love TOS Uhura, she rocks!!! But if she was to have something with anyone there, it would be with Scotty (IMO). ~Yeah, random comment; sorry.
This is a terrific scene. One of my favorites. But something a lot of fanboy nimrods don't seem to get....This is not two "lovers" making eyes at each other....these are two friends who have saved each others behinds over and over again in the heat of battle. Try reading (or watching the miniseries) "Band of Brothers" for real-life examples.
When I first watched ST I always thought of them as best friends, "brothers". But I think the romantic interpretation is fine too. There is no "absolute truth" to be settled.
"practical, perhaps, but not desireable."+"loyalty to one man....nothing can replace...him" = The machine is good but not as desireable as you, captain, so I'll stay faithful."
50 years ago Star Trek was dealing with and discussing these issues. And today we have a medical system collapsing because of bottom lines on a spread sheet dictating how things are run. Efficient maybe, but completely unsustainable and with no soul.
Where was Joe for Trek 09? Did he have the flu? Someone must have been ill to have put Spock and Uhura* together! Everyone should know by now that Spock can only be with Kirk! *Uhura rocks...not with Spock.
- okay this alien was in Kirk and he says: "means so much for you." (not starfleet etc. or the whole crew) Kirk was touching Spocks Body - i think that would happend too in WoK , without the class, Kirk would have TOUCH him , even with the danger of himself or others. (he said it to sarek later too.)
Enough with the imbuing this exchange between Kirk and Spock with romantic overtones. Spock sees and appreciates the unique gifts of leadership and strategy that Kirk possesses and is basically saying that a computer can perform technically more efficiently, but it cannot be the beating heart that drives a Starship or compels the crew to follow HIM where angels fear to tread.
@yellowtoybox876 I think he needs a more epic name than Joe... BUT he wasn't my idea, so I shall call him Joe as well. Let's spread the Joe love to the entire K/S community!
When ONE scene from a tv show in the 1960's takes a steaming pile of shit all over a show from a series of shows that take place 50 years later, you know the writers, producers, and show runners suck ass!
I really don't care whether this relationship is supposed to be platonic, romantic or brotherly...This is DAMN cute! So beautifully played by real life friends Shatner and Nimoy.
Romantic?? It's brotherly/deep friendship... it's awesome
Shatner and Nimoy were not friends at this time lol.
@@pendragonshall it is a well-known dynamic and perception by audiences for decades dating back to the reruns and first Trek conventions and Roddenbury himself even acknowledged it! LOL have a good day
As a fan from the original broadcasts in 1966, at 15, I understood this was not just brotherly friendship but something deeper and stronger. 😊
Sure, maybe after the filming of this episode is finished they can go dancing together. 🤣😂
Kirk doesn't look at anyone the way he looks at Spock, not just a loving look but a held gaze.
Yeah. It's called, 'being a true friend'--something that this utterly jaded and perverted society obviously finds nearly impossible to comprehend.
As usual, Spock told Jim exactly what he needed to hear. They’re so cute
this is why i love this show,,,,this is what it is all about,,,, million dollar special effects cannot come close to this.....

This is the sweetest most adorable thing I've ever seen! ❤️
Spock always gets it right.
What a declaration of love! *melts to the ground* Spock, you emotional sweetheart...
Those who fight together, face death together, will develop a bond as tight as any marriage.
The Sacred Band of Thebes was mourned by Alexander the Great's father King Phillip II, even after he fought them.

Your comment is beautiful. Only one issue though, this is not a generation thing. The premise has been loved by lots of people since the beginning
Thanks for that beautiful story❤🇨🇦

There's a certain note of affection in Spock's voice there.
The love light in Kirk’s eyes
yeah, a private moment. wow, k/s
Joined by blood, even if they’re different colors. The blood that is.
Remains perhaps the show’s most influential scene.
Great little scene.
Thanks for posting it.

Damn!! I literally agree with everything that Spock just said. People will hate me for this comment, but I very much agree with him.
Excuse me while I drown in squee.

that's sad you see this as romantic and not for what it is
@@pendragonshall I do find strange that you think it's sad
Kirk's smile at the end! D"AWWW.
And Spock, really now, such a blatant outburst of emotion....caught me off guard.
Joe ships it. xx

*accepts the head cannon*
Completely awesome
Star Trek called it. AI, if used improperly, can be detrimental to society if not an entire civilization if we simply let it take over.
Oh man, this scene was totally followed by a cuddle X3
"Computers make excellent and efficient servants. But I have no wish to serve under them". More and more true today!
"I HAVE NO WISH TO SERVE UNDER THEM"
Did anyone else think about Spock serving UNDER Kirk when he said this.
The slash... it's... everwhere!
So young. (Well, 40s, but still) We were all, so young. I can't understand the point of getting old. Sucks!

AT LEAST SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS IT
Yeah, finaly someone gets it.

Yes I did. Who do you think writes all the slash? Half of it was Shatner the other half was Nimoy! ;)
And now we serve them more and more !
And by looking at the lack comments nobody appears to have noticed.

I made an unhuman noise O.o
Awwww 😊
Yall got me fucked up in the feels😭😍
Did you know, Shatner and Nimoy support Kirk and Spock as a couple?
😍😍😍😍
It's so ,, sad ,, people see this as romantic.. Brotherly/deep friendship is lost on so many people....
You can have both. I'm marrying my closest, most cherished friend.
FUGGIN' CANON. Honestly. Really, I mean...REALLY.
I hoep they address the slashtasticness of these two in one of the future Star trek movies...
I was waiting for them to lock lips in the end there! 😲🙄
"Captain"
*cues romantic music*
never thought on ST this way...
now i understand so many skinheads liking spock in 80-90...
what a times...
spock muse be sick...
Amen
@SasukeIPwned Also a clarinetist :P

Spock and Kirk with a bromance moment.
