@@kadindarklord Oh okay, I thought Sisko also threw tribbles down on Kirk as he and Dax were scanning each one to find that bomb. I'll have to watch it again and see.
I never really noticed that until now. First Kirk puts the tribble under his arm. After a few seconds, he remembers it's alive and cradles it in his arm. Whether the director or Shatner came up with that, it's a cute bit of business.
i couldn't help laughing when they were talking when more and more tribbles kept hitting kirk on the back of his head when they were trying to have a serious conversation.
He was even petting it after they exposed Darven. K wonder how he would've reacted to Dr. Phlox feeding a tribble to Sulu's pet plant. I think the Denoblian-and possibly T'Pol-would still be alive then.
What I love about this is that he could have easily stepped back to avoid being covered by Tribbles, yet he just stands there with a look of defeat on his face and accepts his fate of being buried by balls of cotton wool! 😂😂
I think Spock was secretly "enjoying" this-just as Sub-CdrT'Pol was when she held the key-to unlock the cuff holding Cpt. Archer's hand to a pole-in front of him. She also "enjoyed" giving the VN pinch to that Ferengi. Her eyes gave her away as did that slight smile. Spock must've either met her or read her journals.
Also gotta love how Kirk just stands there as they pour down on him, and keep pouring down on him, until he's almost buried. When not two feet away...tribble-free zone.
The chemistry between Kirk Spock and McCoy was SOLID GOLD. I don’t think that kinda chemistry was present on any other ST series. I’ve often compared the bickering between Spock and McCoy to buddy and Mel in the dick van dyke show. No episode would be complete in either show without that bickering 😁
I also love how he finishes the line, and manages to hold a straight face and do the next one too. That aim and timing was too perfect to end up on the outtakes reel. :D
Do the math. 1 tribble, after 12 hours, births 10 offspring = 11 tribbles. After another 12 hours, each of the 11 tribbles births 10 offspring each = 121 tribbles. After 6 generations, equivalent to 3 days, we have 11 raised to the power of 6 (11^6) which equals to...1,771,561. Yep, never doubt Vulcan logic.
William Shatner is hilarious in this scene, the slightly amused look on his face each time a new Tribble hits him, telling the Guy berating him to just 'Shut Up' but the look on his face at Spock who has logically worked out how many there are & looks so pleased with himself, as does Mckoy, yet neither of them are doing anything constructive about their buried Captain, thus the death stare, Kirk Spock & McKoy have so many humorous moments, it's part of the magic of Star Trek.
1:19 Just a small detail, but I kinda love the security guy in the background rolling his eyes during Spock's explanation. As if he's thinking "Jeez, that's a lot of Tribbles". Or he's trying to work out the numbers in his head. XD
According to the book on the making of this episode, the shot where they dumped the tribbles on Bill Shatner took eight takes before they got it right.
I think that all the Tribbles should have gone on the Klingon Captain!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **poops pants from laughter**
May the great William Schallert who starred in this episode RIP. Passed away on 5/8/2016 at the age of 93. Such a great character actor. Very underrated. Quite the career he had.
No*1 CookieRusher the man that played Mr. Barris in this episode. He was a guest star. He was the man yelling at Kirk for the tribbles eating his grain.
Jim: I want to know what killed these Tribbles. Len: I haven’t figured out what keeps them alive yet. Jim: *gives Len a “you better or so help me, God” glare*
That bit was freaking hilarious as he was getting buried in tribbles and how in a matter of seconds he was up to his ankles in them just by opening the compartment door and Spock puts back the tribble he picked up and how Kirk's head went stock still when that one white tribble hit him in the back of the head and how he was staring at McCoy as one came out and hit him in the side of the head was classic.
The fact that Kirk keeps getting bonked on the head and the tribble squeaks is hilarious to me! That was also a pretty good shot using the one tribble to knock the other one out of Kirk's fingers.
Kirk's face on 2:37 was hilarious. He's like 'McCoy don't argue with me when I'm midwaist deep in tribbles. Just figure out what killed the puffballs. You can figure out what keeps them alive later.' :D
2:02, Bones, “Jim I think I’ve got it! All we have to do is quit feeding them, quit feeding them they stop breeding!” Kirk, looks away, “Now he tells me.” 2:32, Kirk, “I want to know what killed these Tribbles.” Bones raises an eyebrow, “I haven’t figured out what keeps them alive yet.” Kirk, (previous moment replays in his head) gives Bones a death stare. ‘You just told me 30 seconds ago’
This is hilarious enough, but if you've seen the DS9 episode "Trials and Tribble-ations" you find out the reason Kirk was periodically being hit by individual tribbles- Sisko and Dax were in the grain bay scanning the tribbles for the one with the bomb in it (long story) and tossing them over their shoulders out of the bay! My personal favourite bit is at 0:18 when Kirk attempts to force the grain bin and casually tucks the tribble he's holding under his arm.
James Doohan's son Chris told a story about how when his dad brought him on set, they explored it after this scene was shot, only to accidentally open the compartment and cause the tribbles to fall out a second time😅
Heck, you can make a play tribble-that won't breed or make noise-yourself. If you can find a store that sells fake fur (Hancock's or JoAnn's), you only need a yard. Cut a figure 8 and turn it inside out and sew the edges with some matching thread, leaving a bit open to tightly stuff in some cloth-so you can wash it-and then turn it out so the fur in on the outside and sew remaining edge. If you add a music box piece-I used to see them in Michael's-you won't be able to wash it should your tribble gets dirty. Don't sell it; I'm sure they're copyrighted. I just made and gave them to my friends. Not for dog toys; the fur would be bad if they swallowed a small one and even hurt their digestive system if they chewed it up.
This scene was so freaking hilarious as they're all just standing there talking about the Tribbles, how they reproduce during the calculated amount time when they got into the storage compartments, how they don't breed if they're not fed,Barris blaming Kirk for everything and abusing his authority when Barris is one to talk about abuse of authority when he was the one responsible for using a system wide security alert for grain all the while Kirk is standing there with Tribbles coming out of that compartment hitting him in the back of the head even though it looks more like they're being thrown out and Kirk is just standing there buried upto his neck in those cute little furballs and he's not trying to get out of that giant tribble ball.
I just thought of the perfect idea for a final assignment in a drama class. Split off into groups and perform a scene from this episode, with marks on originality, performance, accuracy to the script, and the freedom to pick which setting and costume that each scene should be in (e.g. Victorian era meeting the Klingons, cheers setting bar fight, or gym storage room tribble count)

from what I understand of the situation, Shatner wasn't easy to work with so the crew was more than happy to toss the little fuzzballs at him. That also partially explains the 'i'm going to kill somebody as soon as the cameras stop rolling' face
Bones: I got it! We stop feeding them! If we stop feeding them, they'll stop breeding! Kirk: (gives him the 'you better start saying your prayers Bones' glare of death) NOW he tells me

Also there was a character called Uncle Pockets who is very similar to the guy who sells the tribbles he had a giant coat with a lot of pockets. I just love figuring out who got inspired by who :D

You know it's funny that if you listen carefully you can hear that one tribble that hits Kirk in the side of the head make a sound that sounds like it was saying 'Uh-Ho'.
I have never seen Kirk look so 100% done until I saw this.

One of the funniest moments in star trek history... Or at least in the original series.
"IT KEEPS HAPPENING."
That look he gives Bones is amazing.

@@AndrewChapman Actually, Sisko was throwing them around. Dax was the one throwing them down at Kirk, I believe.

Absolutely no movement in Kirk's reaction shot, except the tribble bouncing off his shoulder. xD
How he casually puts the Tribble under his armpit amuses me to no end. I'm entertained way too easily.
YatzSliversword i'm more amused at the thought of stage hands randomly tossing Tribbles down on Shatner during the scene.
It wasn't stage hands, it was Sisko and Dax tossing them.

No, you are not. You're lucky.

Those people behind the set were Sisko and Dax trying to find a tribble that had a bomb on it and get it out.
The funny part is you're completely on the money. The crew were pissed off at Shatner and they purposefully aimed for his head.
YamiAtemYugi heh. That Tribble that fell and knocked the other out of his hand.
at 2:40 when spock just casually places the tribble he was holding back to the huge pile. Hahaha I love it

Kirk's death glare is a bit harder to be intimidated by when he is surrounded by tribbles.
That too
Except for when you need to something with feeling. Then their pretty much useless.
His death glare is pointed at the crew as well for throwing Tribbles at him
Kirk's glare is made all the more terrifying when he is being repeatedly hit on the head by falling tribbles
I love how Spock just stands there with his hands behind his back as Kirk gets buried among the tribbles.
Rest in peace, Leonard Nimoy.
