Nice! I have some real and faux leather pieces and I’m gonna try this. One suggestion, if you don’t use a hole punch, you can put a piece of cork under the earrings, that way you don’t stab yourself or the table when punching with the sharp needle.
I don’t get how your able to wrap the wire around the tassel and make it tight. I can’t get the wire to stay and it won’t bend enough to keep the leather in place. Thoughts?
It' about 2 inches, but I would recommend drawing a little template and holding it up to your hear like an earring to see if you like the size, etc. That's what I did!
+Andrea Hooks Hey! Sorry for the late reply! I just kind of winged it and drew it out on paper. I cut it out and held it up to my ear to make sure it was the size I wanted before I continued!
I have some leather scraps but they seem to be thinner and more floppy than what you're using, anyone got advice on how to harden/stiffen that leather ?
+Jordan Stewart Hi, Jordan! I didn't since I'm not sensitive to metals for the most part and wanted to keep the cost down, but you definitely could! This earring findings set cost me under $3!
+SouthernBelle Sass Hi there! On the tassel earrings, I actually used a pin that came in my findings kit and made a jump ring to fit what I needed. The other earrings were pretty small ones that came in the kit. Sorry- I don’t have that packaging left anymore to look! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by! ❤️
You can find scraps on Amazon, at leather stores, and hobby stores sometimes! There's a lot of different type of leather and thicknesses, so depends on how flexible you need your leather for the earring you are trying to make.
Hi, Melissa! I found some scrap leather at Hobby Lobby. They packaged it in a bag and it was under $10 (use a coupon a get it even cheaper!). Michael's or other craft stores might have the same! For small projects like this, scraps work great!
I don't, but I would reccomend drawing out whatever shape you want, cut it out and dangle it from your ear to make sure it's a length/width you like. I have a long face, so I like something a little bit longer to balance out all that...space. :-)
I love your ideas! Thank you for sharing them. (I just found your channel today, I guess I'm a little too late for the chance to enter your giveaway)... 😭
My husband does leather working and he uses a smooth wooden tool to burnish the edges. Fine grit sandpaper might also work? I burnish it with the smoothest wood I can find and then kind of trim any fibers that might be left.

Yes! I have a piece of wood that I typically use and it works out great for that! Have fun and thanks for watching!

It's great! But there'd be a more finished look if you used pliers to work with jump rings and ear hooks

+Linda Denise Sullivan Hey! I actually just used a straight pin that was in my findings kit and bent it to the size I needed!

Do you use sterling silver earrings?
+Jordan Stewart Hi, Jordan! I didn't since I'm not sensitive to metals for the most part and wanted to keep the cost down, but you definitely could! This earring findings set cost me under $3!

Did not see the liquid you used on strips of leather listed as part of materials. Leather conditioner?
I used olive oil!
Very nice!! Love it!!
Thank you!
What is that yellow stuff you are using ? What is it for?
Olive oil! It will naturally darken the leather just a little bit like a natural dye.
Love!
Thanks for watching!!
is that oil you're putting on the leather?
Yes! Olive oil.
What type of leather and where can it be bought
You can find scraps on Amazon, at leather stores, and hobby stores sometimes! There's a lot of different type of leather and thicknesses, so depends on how flexible you need your leather for the earring you are trying to make.

Where can i buy the steel that make the earing hook
In the description are some links to earrings findings to make earrings! Craft stores as well will sell them.
What are you rubbing on the leather
Thanks for sharing.
Olive oil!
Hermoso!!!
Gracias!
Do you have a pattern you could share?
I don't, but I would reccomend drawing out whatever shape you want, cut it out and dangle it from your ear to make sure it's a length/width you like. I have a long face, so I like something a little bit longer to balance out all that...space. :-)
Where do you buy the faux leather ?
I bought a bag at Hobby Lobby! My husband also buys scraps from a leather working shop near by. Amazon has scraps too!
Beautiful!
Thanks, Kathy! Really easy to make- I hope you give it a shot!
What thickness leather do you think I should look for
I would say 1-2mm. The fringe ones are thinner to allow movement and the teardrop/pendant ones are sticker to hold their shape.
LOVE this video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!

Awesome Video and Thank You for Sharing !!!!
Thank you! Enjoy!
For genuine leather, how do you get rid of the fuzzy edges?? Mine all get a fuzzy look to the edges and I have no clue how to get rid of them.
My husband does leather working and he uses a smooth wooden tool to burnish the edges. Fine grit sandpaper might also work? I burnish it with the smoothest wood I can find and then kind of trim any fibers that might be left.
@@letsmakeit_diy thank you!!!

On medium to dark colored leather, I burn them off.

Not a "thumb tack"...it's a push pin. 😊
Potatoe patatoe! 😁
Do you have the templates
Sorry, I don't! I just kind of winged it and after I drew it out on a piece of paper, held it up to my ear to make sure I liked the length!

Helpful but you kept going out of camera view when it was critical for me to see what you were doing. Did love the outcome.
I was going to write the same comment. Your hands disappear out of camera shot. Perhaps have the camera right over your hands . Just a thought ;)
