Great video with good explanations. Opening the jump rings: many artists say you should never open a jump ring like this because it will break. Never pull sides apart but open it by pulling one side toward you and one side away from you to avoid damaging the metal. Close the same way. More often it doesn’t break when you make it, it will when your client has to close it back up. This is just what I learned watching a lot of jewellery making videos. So I just thought I’d let you know in case you didn’t know 😊
Great video, love the idea of using leather or faux leather for earrings. Hope you don't mind me saying, the correct way to open a jump ring is to hold both sides of the cut opening, then slide one side forward and one side back. This way you can slide the edges back to gether easily and get a more secure closure xx
I make jewelry and Master of None is right. You don't weaken the jump ring and you should use 2 pliers or a jump ring opener ring. You wouldn't hurt your hands. Also, if you twist the hook on the earring finding you weaken that and it will break. I know because I thought that was the way to do things and lots of my earrings had to be redone because they hook part broke from the stress of twisting the ear wire. its better to take it off and put it on the opposite way. This was a good tutorial it just needs 2 updates on how to work with the earring findings.
I love the leather earrings, they are cute. And all the colors. It is great that experienced jewelry makers help guide you, and it is a fact that a jumpring gets weakened if you open it this way, also not to twist wire hook, it also tends to break. All else this is a great video.
Casandra Lynn, Chris was pretty polite in making the suggestion and is actually right. The way she is doing it is weakening the metal. She may be self taught and this is what made sense to her. I’ve been corrected many times in many crafts and am always happy to learn something new as long as it’s presented in a positive way rather than someone being rude or a know-it-all.
@Casandra Lynn Actually, your fingers wouldn't hurt more. One of the first techniques taught to an aspiring jewelry maker is how to open and close jump rings, earring hooks, etc. You use 2 sets of pliers, one for each hand. The jumpring is held with a pair of pliers on either side of the split. Picture the jumpring as a clockface with the split at 12. Hold one plier perfectly still while twisting the other away from your body, just enough to open it. Then add the jewelry drop, or whatever, use the 2 pliers again and twist the jumping closed. Usually you'll hear a slight click when the 2 ring ends come together. Takes longer to type how than it does to actually twist it open and closed. If you continue to open jump rings as she is in the video, eventually they will be stretched out of shape and impossible to close correctly.
I loved your video. It was very helpful. Did you use the Cricut Maker? I have the Explore Air 2. I know I can use faux leather, but curious about the chunky glitter with the Air2.
Quick question, my faux leather does not stay on my strong grip mat, which is brand new. I just bought it to try to make earrings. Any helpful tips? I bought the same faux leather you show here in your video. Thanks for your great video. Very helpful!!
Opening your jump ring like that makes the ring less strong. You are supposed to hold the side of a ring with some pliers and grabbed the other side with the needle nose and push the ring open sideways. This keeps the integrity of the ring and is also a lot easier to match up the ends when you do the opposite to close them.
I really love your video thanks so much. I noticed you used your crop a dile to put the hole in your earring. What size hole does it make. I was so excited thinking my pink crop a dile would work but the smallest hole it does is 1/4 unch does yours do 1/16th? If so please tell me where you got it :) Thanks o much :)
Hello!!! I love your videos and your creativity!!! I went to hobby lobby and bought every faux leather they have. The only question I have is on my new Cricut Maker when I go to Fabrics there is no faux leather setting. There’s a faux suede and I’m wondering what I’m missing. I’ve wasted so much material with the machine grabbing it now I’m afraid to try the glitter. Can you tell me where that setting is so that I can use the rotary blade please? Thank you sooo much for your help and your videos!!!
I have the explore air 2 I used deep cut blade on faux leather setting with more pressure and it would not cut. The silver slide all over the mar when I placed face down.
Mine slid too. I even used the strong mat. Some of the Hobby Lobby faux leather worked and some did not. I was disappointed because they are beautiful colors and a good price when 1/2 off.
Since there seems to be so many of us that can't find the leather setting under fabric, could you give us the cutting info so we can add our own material setting?
How do u change ur settings on Design Space? I just got tons of Faux Leather since I’ve got my last clients 50 shirts are done, I just gotta to her house & try and help her press them and show her how to! Because she bought some print images online and their pulling so I’ve gotta go and see what she’s doing wrong? But we can’t wait till we can do these! So exciting just watching esp I want to make my little girl some bows just like I’ve been buying at Hobby Lobby (didn’t even know it until I started looking at the material)
With all types of Faux Leather- it lifts off my mats(tried them all) sooooo, I got some light hold painters tape and use it to hold it down.....make sure to check your blade for tape often...it can stick but, you learn how to use that tape, just so, on the edges as you go along....LOL Since I did that, I've always gotten good cuts. Hope this helps.
Hello! Great video and very details. I am curious as I would like to make these earrings too. How are the earrings suppose to lay, design facing the front or to the side?
Loved the video. I've made earrings before on my cricut explore air 2 and enjoyed it very much. Gotta get back into it again. What color nail polish you're wearing and brand? Love it
I have issues with the chunky glitter wanting to rip. Although, I am using a SVG file that my Cricut cuts the hole in them. Would I have better luck using the hole punch instead, does that eliminate that issue? Thank you!!
I haven't made any yet. However, I have read a few posts where the Cricut blades tend to rip the hole in the vinyl because it's so small. Your best bet is to eliminate the hole in the Cricut file, and use a hole puncher instead. Good luck! I hope that helps.
You prolly dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf recently =)
You said the blush can be used for sublimination. If so what heat settings are you using. Do you have tutorial or any tips and tricks for sublimation on faux vinyl.
In one of your videos on earrings, you mentioned that some people put HTV or vinyl or I cannot exactly remember what on the back of their faux leather because it is white. Can you tell me again what it was?
I got my faux leather from Hobby Lobby too but after I cut it it is very fuzzy and shows on the sides of my earrings... do you know a way to prevent this from happening? or what to do to unfuzz it?
Hello, I tried cutting an oval as the only raindrop I found was a little too wonky. I tried both sizes of blades and found a little threads frayed at the edge. How to you take care of that?
Great tutorial with ideas for storing supplies. Can anyone help me find the correct size eyelets to use with these kinds of earrings? I have searched high and low and am having no luck. I don't know what size to order. Amazon order turned out to be way too big of eyelets. Where can I get them? Anyone? Thanks!
ack! please look up how to properly open jump rings! Do not pull it open. this does several very bad things: weakens and distorts the metal, creates an unappealing rump ring shape and makes it impossible to close the jump ring correctly. Getting a flush close (from opening and closing with the proper twisting motion) is very important to prevent rings snagging or pulling open too easily.
I just recently got a cricut maker and I bought this same faux leather.... mine will not cut at all :( the leather slips off the mat and gets crumpled under the blade..... did you have any troubles at all cutting the brand?
hey girl, if I'm just starting out at making my own earrings. I'm trying to find the least expensive machine to be able to cut basic shapes out of faux leather and faux leather ribbon? I need help!!!!! I don't have a ton to spend.
You know what I haven't but I was just thinking the other day of doing this and I'm not to sure yet Im going to go look in the fabric department at hobby lobby and see what I come up with I will let you know

I like all of them. They are BEAUTIFUL 🥰🥰🥰
Creativity 👌🏼👌🏼 awesome video. I will definitely try to make them
yay!! thank you happy to hear that
You could use magnets glued on the sides of the baskets for the earring loops and backs. Or store scraps under the baskets between the large :)
Where did you get your hole punch? Thank you for this video! I'm inspired ❤❤
Yes please where do you get it
Thats a We R Memory Keeper Crop-a-dile... it punches holes and attaches snaps and eyelets too...
Super cute and seem to b simple too. Can't wait to b able to try it out. 😄
I loved your video. It was very helpful. Did you use the Cricut Maker?
I have the Explore Air 2. I know I can use faux leather, but curious about the chunky glitter with the Air2.
How do you keep faux leather from curling after being on the roll?
Quick question, my faux leather does not stay on my strong grip mat, which is brand new. I just bought it to try to make earrings. Any helpful tips? I bought the same faux leather you show here in your video. Thanks for your great video. Very helpful!!

Thank you for this, I just ordered my earring making kit.
Thanks for the inspiration!
I love the size of the bigger earrings, the silver sparkly ones , what size are they?
Hello!!! I love your videos and your creativity!!! I went to hobby lobby and bought every faux leather they have. Great Video! Did you just make numerous duplicates in order to get them to cut so many pairs at once?
Thank you and yes I did :)
Hello nice video...what did you use to punch the holes in the earrings?
Some faux leather does not stick to the mats! Purple or any color. I am using this same brand of leather from hobby lobby . Any advice??
Thank you for this video! Do you have to have a criket to make these?
I have the explore air 2 I used deep cut blade on faux leather setting with more pressure and it would not cut. The silver slide all over the mar when I placed face down.
Mine slid too. I even used the strong mat. Some of the Hobby Lobby faux leather worked and some did not. I was disappointed because they are beautiful colors and a good price when 1/2 off.
What kind of Critique machine do you have? I am looking at buying one finally.
Video was super helpful! btw love your nail polish color.
Thank you so much
Im new and they told me to follow you that your a great resource i have a question can i use my cricut air 2 to do your earrings??
Hi Crystal, thank you so much for sharing. What size do you buy the hoops?
Hi! If I am just playing around with some of this vinyl and scissors, how can I get rid of some of the fuzzies from the backing?
Beautiful job where can I get the hole puncher from?
I’d love to know about that hole puncher too!
Since there seems to be so many of us that can't find the leather setting under fabric, could you give us the cutting info so we can add our own material setting?
Where can I find the tool like yours to punch wholes in the faux leather?
Cute earrings. Great start to finish video. Thank you. Wishing you a super week. Hugs Susan
Will a cricut joy make these
How do u change ur settings on Design Space?

These are pretty cool. Does this faux leather fabric pieces stay flat long-term or do they start to curl up a bit?
Which cutting mat is this?
Strong grip mat in purple for Cricut.
You might have said it, sorry if you did, but where did you get that hole puncher from? Looks heavy duty :)
Here is the link to amazon but check your local Michaels or hobby lobby and use a coupon amzn.to/2WYNXFe
Can this only be done with the maker?
Hi! I had a question. What settings did you put on your cricut? I bought same material and it would keep lifting off the mat and not cutting correctly
Why do you punch the holes instead of letting the circuit do it? Just curious what the difference is or if there is one
I like to do that step by hand it's just preference
These are amazing.
Thanks for this video
When using the crop a dile, what are your setting for the hole?
Hello! Great video and very details. I am curious as I would like to make these earrings too. How are the earrings suppose to lay, design facing the front or to the side?
What size of Crop-a-dile do I need to make that size of the hole? I noticed there are a bunch out there! :)
Excuse me I have a question. What kind of cricut do you have ?
Loved the video. I've made earrings before on my cricut explore air 2 and enjoyed it very much. Gotta get back into it again. What color nail polish you're wearing and brand? Love it
Can u use a fine point blade I just got me a cricut air one I think is what it is
Yes just turn up the force its in the same area where it shows you to load your blade :)
I have issues with the chunky glitter wanting to rip. Although, I am using a SVG file that my Cricut cuts the hole in them. Would I have better luck using the hole punch instead, does that eliminate that issue? Thank you!!

Do you do them double side ..?
I'm really new to your channel this is the first video of yours I've seen. Could you tell me where you get those rolls of the leather?
Just found your channel. Love this! What a great idea! Now I want a Cricut!
Get ittttt! You will not be disappointed!!
Cindy Bernal which Crichton machine is this
Clarissa Stevenson The Cricut Maker I believe.
What size jump hooks do you use
Hello, is there a certain fish hook that works best? I see so many and don't know the difference between them all.
How much would you sale them? So pretty
Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed watching this video.
You prolly dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf recently =)
How much would you charge for the earrings?
💕💕 what was the hole punch called? And where can I purchase it?
amzn.to/2F88i3R Crop A Dile :)
This is awesome!! Thank you for making this video!!!
Great video and good find @ hobby lobby! Cute faux leather is hard to find. Are you using the maker? Will this cut ok on the air 2?
I'm wondering the same thing...
Cheyenne Nelson I’ve tried. It
Slides right off the mat when cutting. I will try again another time I didn’t have the patience at the time.
@@susanmatla5205 did you use a new mat that was super sticky?
Very good video! Thanks !!
Loved this cant wait to try this
Like these a lot!
You said the blush can be used for sublimination. If so what heat settings are you using. Do you have tutorial or any tips and tricks for sublimation on faux vinyl.
I have pieces of real leather... would this work on a cricut? What machine would you recommend and what blade?
In one of your videos on earrings, you mentioned that some people put HTV or vinyl or I cannot exactly remember what on the back of their faux leather because it is white. Can you tell me again what it was?
Do you remember what the print is called that you used to make the earrings for the baby shower?
Where do you get the leather ?
What are those pink pliers you are using?! Where can I buy them?
amzn.to/2u0CaNc you can also get them at Michaels
I got my faux leather from Hobby Lobby too but after I cut it it is very fuzzy and shows on the sides of my earrings... do you know a way to prevent this from happening? or what to do to unfuzz it?
I have an explore air one, will the scoring wheel work with my machine? And is that the blade I need for this project? Thanks!
Awesome job! Could you please list off the items that you used please. Would love to get started on making them. TYSM
Hello, I tried cutting an oval as the only raindrop I found was a little too wonky. I tried both sizes of blades and found a little threads frayed at the edge. How to you take care of that?
Ohhh I would have sooo much fun doing this
Do you have a link for the hole puncher you use for the earrings? I was not able to find on Hobby Lobby.
Having made lots of jewelry, you should never open jump rings like that. It’s better to twist them apart and then back together
To each their own.
Tiffany Stoppelmoor thanks for the advice!❤️
New to the cricut community, how did you get it to make a lot of earrings at once? And to get them to cut on two different rows?
Gaby Avalos you duplicate them for how many you want. The machine will put them in rows if they won’t all fit on the same row
Do you have a Etsy store?
What blade do you use to cut the faux leather?
Thanks for this video!!!
Saludos soy nueva suscriptora!! Me encantó tú vídeo saludos cordiales desde Ocozocoautla Chiapas México
Mejor si hicieras SUBTITULOS
Do you use anything on the back of the thicker texted leather? I have an issue with it having fuzzy edges...
My hobby lobby does not carry this leather. What is the brand name? Also, what blade are you using?
Anywhere else carry this leather?
Lori Presnell check by the ribbon/fabric. My hobby lobby just started carrying it and sells out quick.
It's in the fabric department with the rolls of ribbon. They've been selling it at mine for about 3 years now.
Great tutorial with ideas for storing supplies. Can anyone help me find the correct size eyelets to use with these kinds of earrings? I have searched high and low and am having no luck. I don't know what size to order. Amazon order turned out to be way too big of eyelets. Where can I get them? Anyone? Thanks!
Do you know when Hobby Lobby has a sale of 50% off?

Thank you. I was thinking the exact same thing lol "yeah that is NOT how you open a jump ring".
I just recently got a cricut maker and I bought this same faux leather.... mine will not cut at all :( the leather slips off the mat and gets crumpled under the blade..... did you have any troubles at all cutting the brand?
I'm having the same issues :( ! I'm using the purple matt and it still slips off
What size jump rings are you using?
May I please ask where you purchased the hole punch.thank you.great tutorial.
here is the link amzn.to/2HYHnM1
What kind of ap laser do you have? And where did you purchase them?
Do you ever glue the earring together so the fabric is on both sides?
Not everybody wants stitching on their earrings. Glue works just fine.
Did the glitter not pull off on the mat?
Love your video!
hey girl, if I'm just starting out at making my own earrings. I'm trying to find the least expensive machine to be able to cut basic shapes out of faux leather and faux leather ribbon? I need help!!!!! I don't have a ton to spend.
Jim Delaney Start off with Silhouette Portrait
It would be nice if it had a hard backing
Which cricut do you have?
Wonderful video!! I do have a question!! Do you ever put a backing on yours? If so what do you use? Thank you!!
You know what I haven't but I was just thinking the other day of doing this and I'm not to sure yet Im going to go look in the fabric department at hobby lobby and see what I come up with I will let you know
When I use glitter faux, it moves around.
Ok so I am new to the terms on here still now the contour means what exactly? I seen the hole go away but i don't know how to use it....Thanks
May I ask what kind of hole punch that is? & where you got it
Its A Crop-A-Dile amzn.to/34Cw8yX
what size are the larger ones and then what size are the smaller ones?
