The variety and amount of quality budget knives that have been released the past 2 years is crazy. $100 can get someone a knife that would be $300 a few years ago
The hogue Deka magnacut is my number 1 recommendation to people who want a USA made knife. But I agree there is so much greatness under $100, you can get 14c, s35vn, magnacut sometimes, m390, and so on, on top of that you can get contoured micarta, titanium or aluminum, and a crossbar lock to boot.
I just purchased the Hogue Collector Series Mysto recently..... Beautiful. It's my new dress knife. You didn't mention the titanium thumb stud and fasteners.
The Balisong that I carry and use as an edc is one from 1983. Like that Benchmade Bali my edc one is smaller, I do have a few modern balis but their handles don't make them as edc-able as a shorter blade and grips. That Benchmade Balisong would be more edc friendly if it had the capability of a pocket clip.
The chillin is a very nice knife. Found one a couple years ago with a satin blade and carbon fiber handles. Very ergonomic and a very good slicer. Lock up is fantastic, no blade play and yet, it closes like a buttered guillotine.
RoseCraft is definitely naming new models after local creeks. I'm not as familiar with the creeks in their immediate Tennessee area, but Stinking Creek and Lick Creek are both in southern Kentucky in the Big South Fork region. People weren't that creative naming creeks and mountains, there are probably those same creek names near their headquarters.
Heck yeah, I was waiting for when the Fox Metamorphosis finally made it to stores! I picked up a wharncliffe version of it at Blade Show this year (FX-556-B5). So satisfying to open and close over and over
Congrats Thomas! You heard so many people talking to you saying the Fox Baby Core is a Spay blade. 90% of what some call a reverse tanto is Spay blade, example Benchmade 940.
Question: for an edc what blade profile, grind, handle material, steel, lock, etc. would you guys prefer and why? In other words, if you could put together your perfect carry for edc, what is it?
I want a bali that I can edc. It doesnt have to be the best flipper, but a smooth open and close would be nice. A pocket clip and a secure latch, springs or magnets would be a bonus. A slip or belt mounted sheath could be okay too But I havent really seen one I like.
I like the design of the pocket clip on the Fox Kronos. Too often I see the pocket clip riding on the locking mechanism of a frame lock, virtually ensuring that any pressure on that clip while attempting to open will make the task extremely difficult, at best. I mentioned this to Reate because their T6000 is difficult enough to open without this added problem. Only time will tell if they listened and make any future changes to designs.
Thank you for yet another great infomercial. I know prices are up, but this time I felt most new knives were above “budget” class. Just that kind of week, or are you focusing on the coolest (I.e. most exclusive knives) if there are some new knives that were dropped because time didn’t allow for more?
Hey DCA, Thomas, Seth and other knife savants. I'm thinking about making a key chain toolkit. Price is no obstacle, must be UK legal and must fit on a key chain and still be light enough to carry around with ease. Secondary question, as a former scout ⚜️ which would you say fits the "scouts best friend" better the victorinox farmer X, the gerber scout or the victorinox scout? I'm a huge fan of the Shilin Cutter design. Have several variations of Vosteed Nightshade and a earlier version of the Vox Fox Chilin. Aside from the no longer produced Spyderco... does anyone else have a Shilin Cutter design out there?
Mora and other companies have been making strong plastic sheaths that don’t destroy edges for decades. So I’m finding your opinion on glass reinforcement pretty much muted, glass reinforcement isn’t necessary.
Mora sheaths are actually really good. They have good one handed retention and do what they need to do, hold the knife safely and securely without ever touching the blade.

Hey! Bali-song owners DO use their knives . . . all the time . . . everyday, they twist them, flip them, spin them, fidget with them - all kinds of fun ways to use 'em! 😉
Ooo, that collectors edition mysto look just like the collectors edition deka v2, love the glow rhino tritium insert into the lock bar. It's not traditional glow in the dark material, it's actually self illuminating by being radioactive. The tritium in the glass vial excites phosphors and produces the glow in the glow rhino. Being that the radioactivity decays predictably the glow effect will last for 10-15yrs before it's half life makes the glow less pronounced. TLDR: Glowrhino makes tritium products
Hello. Could it be time for another camp kitchen oriented knife show/roundup? What knives are good for food prep and camps tasks like carving wood? Thank you!
Can we get a good EDC balisong that's not made in Asia? Boker makes a nice one for about $80, I love it HOWEVER.. it can be made in 3 different places, i happened to get a USA one, and Boker's customer support is... odd. I had to return it and it took 8 weeks (got a USA one back, not sure what the original was). So I like my replacement, but i can't recommend a balisong that falls apart.
I like Magnacut, but I'm tired that everything is now made with Magnacut. Just like the M390 craze and the S30V one before that... Just saying. Maybe I'm just getting old. 🤣

Couldn't stop laughing out loud at the Spyderco Bug!!! 😂🤣 Hahahaha! 😆So tiny and silly! Is that a toy knife FOR BARBIE TO EDC?!? So funny. I can understand the Manbug for a small keychain knife to open packages, chip bags, etc., but the Bug is pushing the limits for reasonable size too much for me! benchmade 82 lol...same horrible design as the larger one MASSIVELY overweight magnet latch in one handle to completely throw off the balance. I had the 87 it was unusable until you remove the latch and magnet but then youre left with this huge gaping hole which still now makes it lighter than the opposite handle. Nobody wants bearings on a balisong and nobody wants latches. As many balisongs as benchmade has done youd think theyd eventually get one RIGHT but nope...the BM51 is the closest theyve been to decent and even that sucks without mods. Their newest drop is absolutely trash with no bushings so it flops around loose with gas station knife level of play. The old BM 6x series with steel handles was the weight of a brick and also complete unusable trash.

Because the only difference between an auto and a manual is a single spring. They do have to spend some money on r&d because even though it’s just a plunge lock with a spring, Protech won’t put out anything that isn’t amazing, so they spend time tuning the detent, the lock up, making sure it can handle all the stress someone would expect a Protech handle. You’re paying for maximizied heat treat, perfect engineering and fit and finish. They don’t miss, and they definitely don’t pull any Benchmades and send out terribly made knives, at least with Protech you’re getting your moneys worth. Buddy you're assuming that everyone who purchases a knife does so with the intent of it being used for violence.
