  • Here you go gang. This only ever aired in Canada yet it was a killer episode whereby I took out a group of pro hockey players to see if they could handle survival 'ala Survivorman. Kris King is a former NHL player and a good friend of mine and we hatched this plan to be a charity event for his home town. Enjoy!! It's also a potential prelude to a new series I'm developing called Fighting To Survive. I recently took a pro MMA fighter out into the bush during the height of bug season! We're editing that right now.

My mom thought of me as a troubled teen during my highschool years because she caught me smoking pot. So she drove me 6 hours away up into the Idaho mountains and left me with a guide named 'Forest' to survive for a week . Day 1 we hiked for about 5 hours before we ran into a cpl friends of his that included me in a (intense) 40 min sweat lodge experience followed by immediately submerging ourselves in a mountain run off. Following the sweat lodge we hiked a bit further then slept under the stars. Day 2 involved more hiking and survival lessons, how to start a fire, how and where to use the bathroom, how to purify water etc. Day 3 I was instructed to set up my own camp site. Using the tarp I built a flimsy little shelter and was told to contimplate why I was up there to begin with. The last 4 Days were me being left to survive "on my own." (my guide was about 1/4 mile away at a lower elevation) The days I was alone were VERY difficult I was fasting, the weather was terrible, and the noises in the forest spooked me. A thunder storm rolled in, drentched me, put out my fire, and then it started snowing. I thought maybe I can sleep through the experience but turns out that's much more difficult than I expected. Needless to say I got my ass kicked by mother nature. Being left alone especially at night was frightening not to mention I was froze to the bone. By the time this all concluded I had a much deeper appreciation for nature. I realized before this adventure I'd taken so many things for granted like a hot shower, food, friends/family the comfort and safety of my home, etc. I left my younger self up on that mountain and returned home with a little more maturity and a respect for mother nature that has stayed with me to this day 15 years later.. I'll NEVER forget my wilderness adventure.

I read "My Side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George. when i was a kid back in the 80s. It got me into the survival and outdoors more than hunting or fishing ever did. When Les made his series "Survivorman" it was instantly my favorite show ever. Always liked how he kept everything real and didn't want to over dramatize most things. Great that he is here making more great content. Even better that his videos don't have massive ads every 5-10 minutes. Love being able to binge watch his stuff anytime I want.

Filmed in my hometown, thank these guys so much for doing this, was a great experience growing up. unfortunately the raised viewing area never was installed, they installed another cooling unit i believe shortly after but the roof took a long while to get fixed, can remember skating over bumps in the ice for years when the ice on the roof melted and started dripping onto the rink. lol then the raised viewing area they had closed because they used it for weight lifting for years and eventually the weights started going through the foors into the change rooms below LOL

For a bunch of hardened athletes, I'm really surprised at how unprepared they were in terms of clothing. One night or not you'd think they would all have access to really high quality layered undergarments and rainproof hoodies, hiking boots, and possibly each team armed with a compass as well. I know survival is the idea, but I think it would be very impactful to show what to wear and do to survive more efficiently rather than just send more meat through the grinder. It's good to see you back on the air, Les.

Hockey is my favorite sport, while its popularity has def grown in past ten years, i see this all too much, rinks being shut down due to no finances, so im very glad you did this les, hockey is an amazing sport, these guys are on skates and using a stick to control a little puck, to me thats the hardest sport there is, anyone can throw a baseball or shoot a basketball or throw a football, you on you feet and using your hands, im not saying these other sports are very talanted too, but hockey is special and takes s special kind of dude or dudette, lol, to play it. You gotta be one tough sob, ill tell you that, these guys go get 25 stitches and ten mins later there right back out there, blocking shits drilling pll into the boards at 16 mph its just insane to me, i have such a huge respect for hockey thanks for doing this les, and everyone else involved
