- Les and his 16-year-old son Logan find themselves trapped without supplies and without a way home while sea kayaking along the coastline of British Columbia. Staying hydrated, fed and warm takes on a whole new meaning with Logan by his side. Lack of food, unsafe water and inclement weather can wreck havoc on the body - let alone one’s mood. Logan’s better at video games than survival and better at hockey than starting a fire. Distraction can cause mistakes...and mistakes can be very costly.

It's good you put your feet in the saltwater. I'm not sure if you know this but putting salt on a burn helps the pain and also helps to heal the burn and even sometimes it will heal immediately. A passed down remedy that I use all the time in the kitchen. the best way is to put the burn in water then sprinkle as much salt on top as you can.

The guy makes documentaries, he goes to the wild to survive in the most horrible ways, that's how they make a living. His kid just turned 16 in this one, he basically knew nothing about anything because he's a kid. This episode is a great example of a father finally looking at his son as a man, as reliable, as smart and handy, and a damn good fisher! He's teaching him responsibility at the exact right age.
This is a very fun episode, there's literally no sadness in it... the kid is finally looking at his father's endeavours firsthand, and experiencing how hard his dad works to put food on the table and get them a comfortable living. And at the same time, Les is looking at his son as a friend and companion! It's a bonding experience that will last them a lifetime

@@WalkerRileyMC No shit, if anything Les was a disappointment in this episode. Why the fuck would this kid want to eat sea weed and what not when he knows he can get a fish. Also, the constant moaning of "I have to think for two of us I'm soooo tired", seems to me the kid is the reason they found water, made the spears that got the first fish, wanted to fish the whole time and when they do they catch fish (that the kid caught btw), is the one who DIDN'T burn his foot. And could easily lit the fire with those glasses he was wearing if someone had showed him how. Whoever is pickin on the kid is a moron. Even Les ending the episode with the whole "had to work so hard to motivate him" spiel is lame. Give the kid tasks and he'll work on them, BAM motivated.

When I started watching Survivorman I was just a young man myself. Seeing Les come full circle with his son now that I have a family myself is such a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

As a kayaking instructor it made me seriously cringe when he said if he flipped with his spray deck on he would have been stuck upside down - what the hell was he doing out on his own without knowing how to roll back up or pop his deck? Like - this is basic shit my dude, bit annoyed at the lack of safety, he genuinely could have fuckin died like what

I love how he doesn't hide the struggles of parenting but agknowledges and explains the addition of stress into the situation from being a constant teacher, it makes this show feel so genuine, just a father and son experiencing the struggles of life together.

I loved how Les eased his son into it rather than tossing him into ice cold water directly. I also like how Logan had the strength of character to make a spear when he felt it was right to do even without encouragement and then how Les acknowledged his son was ultimately right. Perfect life lessons here.
I was tossed in. It was hell, but as an adult I grateful.

It got me good too, I was raised in the woods with my old man hunting and fishing, camping and the sorts, never wanted to spend a second away from him and as an adult I still don't. I've seen this episode many times and that part still tears me up.

What else are you supposed to say?
Taking some time to make a spear/walking stick is a correct choice in most wilderness situations, including theirs, even if they didn't end up catching that fish.
Sure, Les might've assessed the situation according to his extensive knowledge and experience and deemed a spear in that situation of little benefit to him, but for the rest of us:
-Simply seeing medium-animal tracks (Les identified as wolf tracks at 3:57) in the wilds would be a big strain on the mind for most, thus having a spear in hand offers psychological benefits: You're gonna be more calm knowing you at least have a chance if anything not too large comes out of the bush, and you're gonna be able to get more restful sleep at night, especially if you're not used to sleeping outdoors, if you got any form of weapon beside you.
-You can use it as a walking stick when going through rough terrain, like in the forest, to prevent tripping and falling. People don't go on fishing trips with footwear that's properly suited for trekking through forests, and having a long stick can mitigate risk.
*Added bonus is, because you're using it to help with walking, you're not bearing the full weight of the stick most of the time, so it doesn't drain too much energy or take too much effort to carry it along.
-If it's long and sturdy enough you can also use it to pole-vault across small rivers without getting your feet wet.
-The added utility of spear-fishing in shallow waters is a nice bonus.
-You can use it to safely grab/push/knock stuff that's out of reach (low hanging tree fruit, birds nests, snakes, large insects etc.)
TLDR: Big stick good, carry big stick, it helpful.

lucky young man right there. Gets taught by the best in the world. My dad worked for cuso over in Papua New Guinea teaching agriculture. He got murdered before we left, Thats where i was born. its nice to see less surviving in its forest. definitely my fav show of all time. I hope his kid can manage to be the same as his dad. will be very hard but...he has the tools right infront of him if he uses them wisely and listens good

I did this stuff with my father. Loved it. Little girls are forgotten sometimes, but I have now fond memories of spending time in the wilderness with my father. Now I live in an off-grid cabin in the northern boreal forests. :)

I took my kids camping dozens of times when they were young, but by the time they were in high school - no way, they didn't like being out the way I did.
And yes, I just took them to Forest Service camp grounds with fresh water and handy grills plus a fire ring. We didn't rough it.

Easily my favorite Survivorman episode of all. Lost my dad to cancer when I was 6, and watching this makes me realize how golden the time between a father and son is. And how important for both. I have my own son now and look forward to taking him out hiking and camping when he’s a bit older.
Jesus, his son was crushing it with the fish. They've caught more food in this one episode than I've seen Survivorman eat in a whole season

I love how Les keeps repeating his sons name. It helps keep his attention and reminds him it’s important what dads saying right now but also keeps affirming to his son that he’s out here with him, for him. No matter how harrowing a training trip gets it’s something Les is doing with his son.

Really loving that Les made all of this available on youtube, such a cool man. Between this and a whole bunch of other bushcraft/off grid living, im thinking of giving a week long survival challenge a go 🤔 I live near the everglades so the georgia swamp episode really was interesting to me
Do it man! I went for a week long canoing / hunting / fishing trip and it was the best choice I ever made. It was fucking rough a couple nights but god was it worth it in hindsight. Bring rice and dried foods you can boil to rehydrate or cook and you'll be good to go. Dont rely on catching fish or snaring a rabbit to eat, just hope you get one to add to the rice or beans or whatever dried stuff you bring.

@@KingFluffs you need licences and tags to hunt gators. Dont put yourself in a survival situation just to hunt out of season.
@@notmefrfr You do? We don't have gators in my country so I'm unaware of the laws on them. What do people usually hunt out there?
@@KingFluffs you cant hunt almost any animal but you need a license and tag and there are only certain times of the year you can legally hunt certain species. Wild hogs are an invasive species so they can be hunted any time of the year without a tag but you still need a license. For example deer can only be hunted in november and December with a modern rifle in my area of the US.

Les is so good at film making and writing, pulling out what's entertaining and the unseen challenges, parenting challenges. He tips his hat to that, stress of thinking for both and dad dismissal which is done daily, of discounting spear as useless. Dads can't be right all the time, unfortunately

this is so awesome, it's so refreshing to see a show like this in it's genuine and honest approach. No unnecessary drama, just the raw footage and perspectives. Can't wait to watch all of this and see more in the future.
Must be a huge difference in the weight of the camera gear compared to when this show first started.
Why? Everything has gotten more powerful and smaller.. What it took 5 batteries for only needs one now.

I love this! I actually feel like I'm learning more with his son being there, than if Les was alone. Les has to verbalise his thinking and his ideas more, so the viewer can see more through the eyes of a survivalist :)

I used to watch Survivorman as a young, single guy just to see some unique skills and someone test themselves. I now have two kids, both much younger than Logan but its nice to have this look like my family now. Good job Les!
This was so wholesome Les. The little questions you ask your son and how you talk to him really shows how much of a good father you are.

I really liked how Les never would have thought to make a spear because it was such a small chance, at least in his mind, but in his son's mind it was a viable idea. Then it payed off. The benefit of two people working together and respecting each-others choices. A great way to approach things, if only that happened in every survival situation. Most of the time the loudest voice wins and it's not the most experienced or knowledgeable. The biggest arsehole gets his way and belittles anybody who doesn't see it their way and fall in line. Driving everybody into the ground in the name of survival.

This series struck something within me.
My dad was a big outdoors guy, and he took me out hunting a few times when I was younger--needless to say, younger me hated it.
Funny enough, I am now somewhat a survival enthusiast. I would've loved another opportunity to be outdoors with him, though he's passed away nearly 10 years now.

The excitement of seeing a new survival man series is just beyond explainable. The original series shaped my interest of the outdoors. Love you les!!
Les is such a patient father. And he let's his kid learn his lessons the way his kid is going to learn them. But the biggest lesson this has shown me is the difference of mental discipline is so fragile, yet it often means the matter of life and death.
As a father and fan since the beginning. This is one of the best episodes ever!

I've lived in the area of this episode my whole life. I'm appreciative of the content of my home. I've harvested the Giant Mussels in the tofino and renfrew area, they normally are the only bivalves that aren't affected by red tide.

Right! But it seems like he did come around. It's got to be a lot of pressure at that age knowing your private time will be broadcast to the world for judgement. I couldn't do it. It was such a precious gift to be let a peek inside the window (and on such a big occasion). Nothing like this ever happened to me but if I could gift someone an experience i would look a lot like this. Just a truly beautiful thing to share with the world. Thank you, Stroud Family!

This was awesome! It is exactly how my relationship is with my kids. I thought I was teaching them things and outdoor skills with summer camping trips we had done. Then as I got older and I started asking them to help me with things I found out how little they had paid attention to me. And also a remembrance of exactly how much a teenager does not like to do things lol
