How the heck did the sound system sound better in 1968 than in 2010? Jose Feliciano is an amazing artist.
The sound engineer was probably browsing insta instead of doing what he had to do
Spit-balling here, but maybe the acoustics in Tiger Stadium were better because it was enclosed with the upper deck?
You know, believe it not, some things were actually better then.
I think it was just his guitar that through you off.
No the microphone just probably was tailored for different pitches
Finally got the applause he should have gotten back in 68.
You could could say that again
Too bad they booed him in 1968...
Why did they boo him?
@@cooldog60 He was one of, if not the 1st person to do a stylized version of the national anthem and he preformed it during the height of the Vietnam War protests. So there was a lot of people in the crowd that interpreted it as being un-American.
Ridiculous. Horrid. That it was received so poorly back then. And I’m a staunch Conservative.
"You might not like it but your kids are gonna love it"
In time of war you NEVER touch the Star Spangled Banner...
RIP sound tech guy.
Muhammad Smith lol
Great performance despite the technical issues with the sound of the guitar.
In 1968 they booed him for his rendition but now in this day and age they love his rendition after many years of change and grew fond of it.
The Boomers who wanted to kill him back in '68 are now pretending they were on board with his iconic rendition right from the get-go.
It's amazing how he can sing such an emotional rendition of the Star Spangled Banner without ever having been able to actually see it. Bravo.
ACorp Productions Did you see it?
😂
That's why he sing it: Jose.. Can You See?
I'm happy they didn't throw sh!t at him this time
🇵🇷💪
Fire the sound guy
He sounds the same way he did in 1968
Most definitely he does not
Jose fELICIANO still very talented after all these years
Lo cantó igualito que en 1968. Sencillamente lo máximo. Latino tenía que ser.
This version of the star spangled banner and the story behind it makes me more proud to be an American
This was clearly very moving to older members of the audience, but not so much by the young. That's a shame, this was a powerful performance, and historically significant. I really loved it. The 60's...what a tumultuous time.
The older members of the audience were among those bigots who wanted to crucify him back in 1968, so epic fail.
So proud that time has given him justice.
what a beautiful rendition i’m so glad he got the chance to re-perform it & got the applause and love he deserved all along 🖤
Fergie could never
Lol
Imagine if our grandchildren really enjoyed that version and flames us for not liking it
No soy de estados unidos y casi me hace llorar, impresionante, 42 años les costo entender su estilo, es por que su música era muy adelantada para el publico convencional.
Absolutely Beautiful Rendition, both back then and for the Ernie Tribute..!! People who break down barriers like he did, deserve much credit from every person performing their version of our 'National Anthem'..!! He was brave, talented and perhaps blind to the importance of being 'The First' and took much criticism for his performance. It would have been nice to include the original performance as part 1 of this video, which was way too short.... and could have also included a short bio on his amazing life and career as well. He was an HISTORICAL performer..!!
Que hermoso canta este Señor José Feliciano Dios lo bendiga !
I like the old recording better the sound is softer and more pleasing not as twangy from the mic
The sound technician fucked it up somehow
Jose can you see
Not really, seeing as he’s blind.
😂 i’m dead.
Good pun
he is blind.
😂😂😂😂
This guys voice no matter what he sings always takes me back to "feliz navidad".. that xmas song is just iconic and will be forever.
Me and my daughter were there that day and yrs I cried......just like I did in 1968 when I watched and heard on TV..
And just like I did tonight in 2020 before the game...
Do I guess Basebsll is Life...!!!!
Who came here from Vox?
same
me
yo me
Me
Not me!
This is perfect! I love this, what an amazing voice! So talented😁
Wepaaa orgullo Boricua
Proud!
Did his guitar sound weird or is it just me
It sounds like a bad cable or maybe the battery is low
It’s sounds like it wasn’t plugged in properly but the mic he’s singing into picks it up. That’s why it sounds weird at parts and fine at others.
I agree it sounded a bit off
Well.. he is blind so he had some trouble with his chords, if you noticed he's messed up his Bb chord, his Gm chord and his C chord in the beginning.
Or he just isnt as good at guitar
What a wonderful and beautiful interpretation of the anthem.
Probably one of the best that i have heard..
Love you for being so wonderful ❤🇵🇷🙏
Awesome Mr. Feliciano!
I all ready heard a lot of different version of The Star-Spangled Banner but this is the first one that make me feel more patriotic.
He is , without a doubt, right up there with Ray Charles as one of the greatest interpreters of song we've had.
¡It was and it is a very beautiful rendition! It has a melancholic and lovable sound against the hard harsh martial original. One that can be sung in peace time. Well it was those times of peace and love, unfortunately gone.
Peace time... while america is at war in two countries haha
@@Mitch19222 its a War sick country.
Ummm, he first belted out this rendition like a sad yet hopeful dirge at the height of the Vietnam War in 1968.
yall couldnt even get the amps to work properly smh
Oh *2000-2010*, how you brought us many horrible ass mic’s at public performances that were meant to sound pretty..
I remember Roberto Clemente stood up for jose in the 1968 singing of the national anthem
Was he in the stands watching the game..? If true, that's an amazing fact... I never knew.... Thank You.!!
Grande como siempre José
This was Ernie Harwell's dying wish, to have Jose sing the anthem like he did in 1968. They say there's no crying in baseball....this night, there was an exception....
Ernie and his legendary voice and wonderful story-telling..!! He was trying to help calm people down from the tension of the Race Riots that were just starting in Detroit. A truly incredible man & beloved announcer
R.I.P. Ernie Harwell!
I like this version form Jose
I still love it!
Nice seeing Kaline and Willie Horton. They both have statues at Comerica Park!
Amazing
There ought to be a movie about Ernie and Jose's friendship. Jose met is wife because of Ernie--she was a Detroiter and president of his fan club!
Damm good.
I was at this game. It was amazing to hear. I’m glad there is a video of it.
Omg! He's sitting during The National Anthem!!!
I can’t tell if you’re being ironic or not, I’ve seen a lot of idiots.
I like the 1968 version
What is important is the content and the idea that it represents, not the form
O say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
It was beautiful singing but goddamn that guitar was hard to listen to.
About time.
woah he hasnt changed at all?
His guitar sounds like 4 rubber bands being played across a ruler.
Imagine someone sitting out on this.
❤❤❤❤❤
Welp here he goes again
The one that made people jeer at the Banner
But now look at what we have today
PUERTORICANS ARE THE BEST
At what?
@@cesarvaladez8820 lot of things, music, art, boxing and more more....
Notice there is a player (I won't mention his name) chewing gum during the National Anthem.
Tiger Stadium had better acoustics?
They really need to get proper production people for events like this. Someone destroyed his guitar sound. Oy.
Sounds incredible, should have given a better guitar tho
DI for the guitar was failing...such a shame.
Somebody should have thrown the sound techs from the nosebleed seats. Sheesh. He played perfectly but they had his guitar amplification FUCKED up
It’s goood what’s wrong with people it’s better
God bless America, our melting pot where EVERYONE BELONGS to and is WELCOME. LOVE YOU JOSE FELICIA NO 🎉💕🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲
Year?
Says 5/10/10 in the description. Announcer says 42 years after his performance in 1968, so that seems to add up.
I was there!
🇵🇷💪🇺🇲
That guitar needs to be tuned
The voice and song is f’n awesome but goddamn that guitar sucked
He's old
@@helmi7877 Bro, it was the sound technician's fault. His guitar feed was faulty, and kept cutting out
I thinks that's how folk music sounds like
@@lancerobertsphotography516 I'm sorry, that people automatically think, that he's too old. HE'S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING GUITAR PLAYER, SONG WRITER...CLASSICAL GUITAR, ROCK & flamenco. OLDER NOW, YET PLAYES ALL OVER THE WORLD !!!! I THOUGHT HE HAD JUST WROTE FELIZ NAVIDA & DID A VERSION OF LIGHT MY FIRE. WELL, I GOT A BIG SURPRISE.

🌹 keeping the Faith 💜😎
Jose's mic is bad.
I truly believe any song is subject to the artists interpretation. Except the Star Spangled Banner.
Nah just make it good. And Feliciano did it the best
You know the version most people are familiar with is an interpretation, right? The song was originally a poem that someone later added music to. Everyone's just singing a poem, the music they use should be their own choice
Man, you have no imagination. Art is not stagnant. It is ALWAYS being reinterpreted for all ages and times.
Bruh I thought he was blacklisted
